« on: 11 April 2007, 19:12:16 »
What leads will I need if I choose to swap ny CDR500 for either a Kenwood or JVC headunit?

I want to keep both the steering wheel remote control and MID screen

Thanks.

now gotta work out how to remove alternator so i can perform  the how to on repairing it!

If its the same as the 2.5 V6...remove ram air pipework....remove secondary air feed pipe...drop of aux belt..thats the easy bit and takes minutes.

Now the fun bit....

Need to jack up the drivers side and I used 3/8 drive extension and a short T bar to get onto the top bolt....I feeded the extension bar along the top of starter motor and then managed to get the torx socket on the top bolt head then fitted the T-bar onto the extension......its easier to have the nut at the pulley end on the top bolt and nut on the gearbox end on the bottom bolt....its another git of a job and I managed to do it in the dark with a mini mag light in my mouth.

Oh how I enjoyed it

I use the thickest ofc (oxygen free copper) lead that I can work with regarding space available to connect to the block or head(s)

On my Ford Probe 2.5 V6 the lead is about 20mm thick and there's a conveinent threaded hole on the top edge of the block in between the 'heads.

On my bike I found that starting is much easier and the bike idles better and some people have found a few extra bhp when visited a dyno after

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Dedicated earth for sparkplugs
« on: 20 October 2006, 23:38:49 »
On the two cars I have and my motorbike I run the thickest gauge possible earth wire straight from the battery neg to a point on the block/cylinder head as often the standard earth strap is pants or poorly located in relation to the 'head(s). This lead is an additional earth strap for the 'head(s) not a replacement for other negative leads

I do know that electricty needs free electrons to move and the greater the electrons the better (solids have more atoms and therefore electrons than a liquid or gas. And that electricity will take the path of least resistance)

Anyone done this on an Omega.....

Havent collected my Omega yet so been unable to have a good look at the wiring

Thanking you :y

Cheers again.

Is it a difficult job to get at? How easy to reach multiplug as i cant see it.

I'm guessing usual plenum chamber removal etc

7
Cheers chap.

How do I fix the low voltage issue or remove the code?

Thanks again.

EDIT
Well after a short drive home the warning light has gone out and the car seems poke-ier :D :)

Just got code  61 come up on paperclip test....fuel tank vent valve low voltage.

Whats the deal to fixing it?

Cheers in advance,

Andy.

Omega General Help / Re: tuning a V6

TBH I think my wifes 1.6 Festa is quicker off the line than my 2.5 at the mo. :-[

However I intend to fit 3.0 cams, probably will go for a FSE reg (had them on my 2.9 4x4 sierra and on 1.9 205GTi and found them to be worthwhile) and got plans to decat the exhaust. Its got an almost new exhaust system on it but the powerflow agent's in Bromley are excellent. I will get them to fabricate some decat pipes. One problem I have at the moment is the full length heat shields on the downpipes..they are starting to rattle and annoy me...looks like I'll ask the powerflow people to blob a weld or two on the fix them up,

Then go for the chip..I'm hoping for just the other side of 200 brake :)

I believe one of the reasons why you can turn TC off is so you can get grip when pulling away in snow/ice/mud etc

ICV is the idle control valve. Lives on the passenger side front corner of the plenum chamber.

Has a small multi connector pluging into the back of it.

It is connected to the multi ram system and this hose has a small diameter take off that connects to the fuel pressure regulator that lives under the rear end of the plenum.

Change the o-rings under the plenum , they are very cheap and helps the idle..

I got my pants pulled down at Toomeys...£13 for 6 sealing O-rings

Omega General Help / Re: Exhaust configurations

If you want more power it really depends on how big your wallet is.

How much is the blower set up costing you?

How much would an over bore with race spec cams, ported and polished heads with uprated fuel pump and injectors cost compared to a blower project?

I think the point being made is that for forced induction (supercharger or turbo or combi of both) the scavaging of exhausts gases through a specifically tuned exhaust system is lower on the list.

In essence the forced inlet charge pushes a lot of the waste gas out. Less need for the exhaust system to draw the waste gases out. Tuning equal lenghts for primary tubes so each pulse of exhaust gas can slot in turn with the next one. Then the decision/benefit of a cross pipe for V engine set ups etc

Trying to cast my mind back re long primaries v short ones v torque on motorbike builds and the benefit of primaries joing en-masse or going 4 into 2 into 1 etc

Check all vac pipes are sound and fit tightly onto the servo hose.

I used small cable ties to ensure a sealed fit
