Omega General Help / Re: tuning a V6
« on: 07 November 2006, 21:20:29 »
Carrying on with the modding theme,
I read earlier about chips etc etc.
Now coming from a GEMS ecu on a scoob, mapped on the road, to take in all the mods on the car,
If you de cat your car, cone filter rather then the airbox, 3.0 cams, 99/100 ron petrol, how does this chip work?????

If the chip was made with a standard car in mind, then the parimeters for fuelling, air intake, are upgraded so it plugs onto your ecu board and off you go.........

However if you have de catted your car, 3.0 cams, and like me you have the choice of better fuel 99 tesco/100 shell, then how does this chip read the extra mods.....or doesn't it................or when people mention chip on this forum, is it a chip that can be played with on a rolling road with a mapper??????????

Sorry for all the questions, but if you don't ask, you'll never find out,

Omega General Help / Re: Vibration at 70 - 80 and beyond (cough)
« on: 30 August 2007, 10:05:43 »
I have recently had four brand new tyres, wheels balanced etc etc
And also had new front discs and pads, all needed doing anyway,

Because I had a slight vibration through the steering wheel, so I thought all the above would have solved it, but its still there, so my next thing to do is now check my bushes. My car has done 75,000 miles.

You didn't mention how long you have had your front discs on your car, as they can warp and cause a similar vibration..................its just a thought,

I'm now going to check my bush  ;D

Omega General Help / Wheres my oil going ????????
« on: 30 August 2007, 10:20:04 »
Right I'm losing the will to live, I've already spent enough on my car to now see the "CHECK OIL LEVEL" display appear on my dash,

So I did check my oil and I had to put a litre in to top it back up to the full marker, a week later and after using my car for work for the week, the "CHECK OIL LEVEL" appeard again, and yes the oil level had dropped again  >:(

My car has done 75,000 miles, there are no oil leaks anywhere in the engine bay, and I belive............... now checking my backbox it appears to look a bit oily inside...........................so whats the potential problem?

Is it the piston rings ? I don't mind using a little oil evey month, but a litre every week :o

Kev (about to scrap his 2.2 x reg) :'(

How many times on here have people posted that cambelts and rollers need to be changed every 40,000/4 years, sorry to hear that you have experianced the dreaded failure but you have been pushing your luck mate. ::)I hope that the damage is minimal and your upand running soon.

Just for your info it was last changed at 40,000 miles, so I wasn't pushing my luck  ::)
And yes I am well aware it needs doing every 40,000, so I was going to do it at around 80,000 miles, hence I am a bit p*ssed off, still waiting for a phonecall from Vauxhall today and time now............................17:44hrs ::)

Well I visited the Vauxhall garage yesterday evening and they told me my CAMBELT had snapped  :o

My cars done 75,000 miles, so I wasn't planning on changing it for another 5000 miles,

They are going to strip my car today, then phone me with any news, and check to see if there is any valve damage, if there is not, aparently they still send off the cylinder head to be pressure tested  :-?
Can anyone tell me if this is true ? its going to cost an extra £50 but the service desk said they won't put my car back together again without it !!!

If theres no damage they will obviously put it all back together again with new cambelt and tensioner, however whats the chances of there not being any further damage ?

I was travelling at about 30mph when it died and I just pulled over to the side of the road.

ANY OPINIONS WELCOME  ;D

Omega General Help / Why did my car die on me ???????
« on: 28 July 2007, 21:27:46 »
Hello Guys
Hope you can give me some help  :'(

I was driving home from work today, cruising at 40mph, when the revs died and all the dash lights came on and I had to pull over to the side with no power steering  :o

I tried turning it over, it cranked over but did not fire.
AA called out  :y the guy checked the spark plugs ( 2 months old)
                                                       coil pack  (working)
                                                       battery (fine)
                                                       Fuses   (fine)
Over a quarter of a tank of Shells V power  :y
He then decided to check the fuel pump which appeared to be working,
And decided it must be fuel related  :-/
Sooooooooooo  it appears to be some fault between the fuel pump and the engine  :-/

So car taken to Vauxhall in Crawley, and dropped in for Monday, at least I can point them in the right direction, save some money on investigation  :o

ANY ideas ????

Car is an X reg 2.2 petrol Omega

Omega General Help / Re: Wheres the gearbox oil ???????

There isn't a dip-stick for the engine oil ........ another nice design feature missed completely by Vx. >:(  >:(

There should be a bolt on the upper quarter, if the oil is just about overflowing when you remove this then the fluid level is fine.

I'm sure theres a picture of said bolt around this forum somewhere I'll go and have a look.

I think you mean gearbox oil dipstick  ;D

Anyway I also noticed today my engine oil was very low on the engine dipstick, so I put a litre in and the autobox warning on my dash display went off and has not appeared again...........................................................so my question is does the engine and gearbox use the same oil as there appears to be no entry point to put gearbox fluid in  :o

Thanks for the comments :y

Logs book gone off to DVLA
So I need to ask............................... :-?
Can anyone confirm my model number ie  Y22, OR X22 etc etc

 Cheers Kevin ;D

Well, after a four hour train ride into Leeds train station, I met up with the seller,
Seemed a very nice guy,

I checked the Log book, The MOT runs until March 2008, He showed me id confirming the name and address on the log book, the milage was just under 71,000 miles, I even saw the original receipt when he bought it at six months old :y

Silver X reg, 2.2 automatic, with all the electrics, air con (worked)
The brakes are okay, not brilliant, probably have to change them over the next couple of months, but that doesn't bother me..................got my eye on some grooved/dimpled discs with red stuff pads 8-)

The only strange thing was that the tyres are all legal, but all four are a different make :o, got tax until the end of August.
The cambelt will need doing at 80,000 miles,
But anyway I decided to buy it at £1220 as agreed,
And drove it home 240 miles, no problems at all ;D

I think thats it...........................so fingers crossed all is well ;)

Just carried out a HPI check with Autotrader completely clear, plus never been written off, so all looking good  :y

Cheers Guys

I had already thought about most of the above,
I will take my log book for my 1995 omega to show I am a serious buyer to put his mind at rest, plus I'll take I.d.

He knows I am travelling from Sussex up to Leeds so that should also show him I'm serious.

I will e mail him now to request he brings the Log book (obviously), and his driving licence/passport. I also expect as he has owned the car since it was six months old he will have all the MOT/service history etc etc.

I'll let you all know what happens

Kevin :y

I have won a car on Ebay, and I am travelling on Friday to check it over and buy it.
It is a 2000 X reg
71,000 miles
Silver, Saloon,
MOT until March 2008,
Pictures look okay, the guy has owned it since it was six months old,

I must admit I didn't expect the bidding to stop at £1220 which is what I bidded and won.  :o

BUT looking around Ebay and other car sites, I think I may have got a bargain,
At least the owner has sold it, I know some owners put, buy it now prices up, and whos to know if they get any buyers at all, this car had no reserve on it.

I will check the MOT,Mileage, Log book, electrics, etc etc, I am quite confident at looking around cars, its just a slight niggle this seems to be too good a buy,
Is there anything else on this model I should look out for?
I think the guy is meeting me at the train station with the car to go for a drive, and then to a local bank to do a money transfer.

Right thats my ramblings over, any thoughts welcome guys :y

For the people like me who have no idea.....................................what is this autobox upgrade?
Whats involved and what are the end results?  :-?
And is it only certain models that this can be performed on?
Cheers Kevin :y
