Omega General Help / Re:  Omega Simtec 71 ECU
« on: 20 April 2007, 10:42:12 »
Does any one know which of these EOBD/OBDII Protocol GM Tech2 runs / supports ?

SAE-J1850 VPW ?
ISO-9141
ISO-14230 (KWP2000)

If any one has the tech2 interface , the tech. specs might list it , I do not have it :(

folks,
thanks for many posts about this issue , i searched for a 3rd party ECU flasher ( Tech2 ) that can be worth paying for  . most of them do not list Simtec 71 ECU on 2.2 16v but rather Simtec70 on the 2.0 16v.

I checking with each seller if working with Simtec 71 ECU!. some has ready engine tune maps as well.
if any one tried similar before or could advice from eariler experience . I'm looking for readin / writing maps and flash capability.
, I'm willing to take a chance with one of these but simply can't tell which is good as never used one .
your feedback would be always very helpful .

e.g : KWP2000 ECU Flasher diag & tuning remap + OBD

Thanks markjay,
For a v. clear answer.
As u said.  I don't think I will get the Tech2 or any GM tool with s.w since it’s really expensive and not worth it for a single home user. Most local maintenance garages I know here do not use the original or compatible GM tech2, but they use a generic OBD/EOBD scanner that only reads/resets few codes.

I've found some 3rd part s.w on the web made for Omega and runs on PC/Laptop, not very expensive.
I guess that would be enough to read and clear alarms and figure out the s.w release version being used as mentioned.

Finding other local capable workshop that has GM Tech2 is my next step. Or may be getting the GM Tech2 ;)

dear Moya,

If you are living in Jordan , I think its good to share our "omega" experiences since local dealer here is fooling around.

try these , ( sorry guys for wired charachters , its in Arabic .
Be carefull , Omega ECU can be tricky , make sure you have the correct engine code before you buy the ECU , each Omega year and Engine has different ECU , If I'm not wrong.
not sure about price ! .

do know any URL for tech2 and TSI2000 ?

- Is that possilbe  using ELM327 USB Cable  ? Or would I need to get the  tech2 software and hardware as well . please elaborate for a new user of ECU management packages. ;)

- I'm looking for best s.w and cable to read/write ECU codes and also re-program , that can be used with this car  Z22XE and other cars if needed . I was looking into voxcheck and enginecheck s.w  , comes with ELM327 USB Cable from Genaden and works with other cars but that only reads ECU .

Hi folks,

Is it really possible to change the EPROM software/firmware without chaning the actual chip on Omega Simtec 71 ECU ?  i.e : Simply re-program the ECU ?

according to the dealer , they did that to solve cold morning kickup issue I had ,
I could see they did not change the ECU , and only used the GM Diag Tool !?
I thinking they might have just re-tuned something ....and over-charged me !.
that on is Omega 2.2 16v faceleft.

well , the pool on the radiator is on the right hand side standing in front of the car. not sure about the left side since radiator is covered a many plastic part.
the lower hose is on the lower left side , where i found some wet traces of coolant ( antifreez)

its not summer yet here , and I did not start the A/C since months ago :) . usually the excess condenced coolant drops down the car into the ground via some hose.
but the water pool on the radiator front  shouldn't be considred sign of leak/evaboration ?

Folks,

I searched the hoses, water pump ....etc and coolant tank/cover for any sign of leak, evaboration or moisture just after turning off the car ....nothing un-usual.

how ever , I found a v. large wet area on radiator front side and traces of moisture below the radiator ( on the lower plastic protection cover )   near/ below the front bumper).

I think radiator is 1st thing to check ?

Just can't find the radiator tab, even running my fingers around it:-/

thanks guys,

since in this model there is no radiator cab , I'm assuming it could be the coolant tank or cover weaping  under pressure or the pipes joining coolant tank.

I'll examine these . thanks for the tips!. :)
