There are a few things to check really.
Some tyres tramline worse than others, but Cambers can also need adjusting by someone who knows what they are doing.
Have a look on the inside edge of your tyres especially the front ones, are they bald or wearing?
Get a bar under and see if the wishbone bushes have had it.

All four tyres were advisories for the MOT I had in March.

The rear ones will be changed shortly, the front ones, I was assured, had 3 months of driving left. I don't drive particularly hard or excitedly so I hope they do last that long, because at £100ish a (decent) tyre, it's fairly hard on the wallet. Still, worth checking, will look closer at the tyre walls.

If I were to get anything done then it would be at a garage, however I do not need it to be absolutely perfect. I much prefer cruising about than blasting down B roads; my previous car was better at the B road blasting!

I understand what you say about getting work done before finding out where the real problem lies, though.

I will certainly look into the idle air control valve, that sounds like something even I can do :).

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have amended my location/car appropriately.

I've done a bit of research and it appears the tram lining issue is common.

However, first small issue is how the car idles after it's been started up cold, after it was driven a few hours before hand.

I drive it 2.5 miles to work in the morning and park it up. When I get back to it later, and start it up, I can definitely hear a misfire of some sort, the V6 rumble is irregular. The revs do not stay the same. After a minute of driving, it's fine, and it sounds absolutely perfect.

I am aware that I'm driving it the worst possible distance, on a cold engine, and this is probably one of, if not THE only, reason for this. However, anyone have any other suggestions? I am looking into getting a bike for the work commute, better than averaging 17mpg!

Secondly, the car handles well but on country roads it will tram line chronically. The camber of the road will make the car change direction abrubtly. This makes country driving somewhat interesting.

I have heard that this is from the toe-in setting that comes from the factory. Can anyone confirm this? How much to get it changed?

Thanks for any help, I'll get a photo up presently.

Omega General Help / Wheel query.
« on: 07 May 2009, 18:12:07 »
Hi,

A quick question...I have the standard 16" Elite five spokes on at the moment. I have a 3.0 Elite.

I wish to buy some cheapy 15" alloys/steelies + tyres for a track day from eBay.

Will these smaller wheels fit over the brakes if they're from a lesser powered/lower spec. model?

Cheers for any help.

I've posted my car up already but just thought I'd say hi and thanks to the help I've already received!

I'm a budding car photographer so I will try to get some more photos of my one up soon.

Are the tyres good? How much for the wheels + tyres? I need a track-day-guilt-free set soon.

Didn't you recently do a 2k round trip to get these?  :o

an why couldnt they still be like new!?!

Erm, I never said they couldn't be. I was surprised that such a long trip would be made to get wheels only for them to be sold soon after.

Although it appears that may not be the case.

They're damn nice wheels, and if I had the cash I'd have pounced on them.

...its a for sale thread not somewhere to simply diss the seller such that they decide to remove themselves from the forum......

If he's a proper trader he may want to grow more of a spine than that!

Shame actually, this is slightly above what I paid for my current derv run about, but it's incomparably better and more respectable.  :P

its one thing to haggle if interested, and quite another to walk in announce to the world something is overpriced and walk out again with no intention of buying.

Doesnt happen down the shops, on auto trader, or anywhere else afaik.

If a seller advertises, i'm quite sure he would prefer contact from genuine buyers?

I've told dealers their cars are daftly overpriced before, and I've not even been looking at the car for sale in question. I wouldn't go as far as saying that here; this is an Omega forum and Omegas are worth more to a fan of the car than to someone wandering in off the street, of course.

I've phoned up cars on Autotrader and said "it looks like a good car but in my opinion it's overpriced for what it is". It's a buyer's market, the seller has to be prepared to hear things like that.

Personally, if I were selling another Omega on here, I would prefer to receive 2 pages of "I think it's overpriced" than to receive absolutely no replies from "genuine buyers" and wonder why my car has received no interest.

A dozen people who know Omegas offering their opinion that my car was overpriced; to me that's valuable information!

I can also appreciate the frustration of having three pages of replies and no offers of actual interest; so I apologise to Robsey for contributing to this, and will drop the subject now, promise.

This one, I would say.

It depends how much you value the Irsmcher kit, though!

I say best of luck to you with the sale; I have always got my eye on the slightly different looking Omegas as I know a couple of people who try to pretend they don't like them but who probably secretly want them.  ;D

Sold to whitebullet. I am confident it will deliver smiles per miles for a very long time yet; look after it :).

Pleasure doing business.

Insuring two cars at 22 is a no-no. A diesel may save me a bit on fuel, but also on insurance, and because I'm not mechanically minded, a smaller car is a bit more basic and cheaper to have fixed.

It's also easier to do things myself to it, when I get time to teach myself in the future.

I've made my choice, and I've found a replacement; all I want to do now is let another Omega fan own it.

I'll be putting it on Autotrader/Pistonheads etc within a couple of days if nothing comes from here. :)
