Omega General Help / Re: Running Rough When Hot!!
« on: 13 February 2007, 14:46:44 »
OK, Collected the HT Leads from ECP yesterday and fitted them this lunchtime. Took it for a nice long run on the motorway to get it nice and warm and then did a bit of country lane driving just to make sure that the problem was cured. She ran like a dream. The Leads were £49.68 plus VAT which in total came to £58.37. Part Number 409720141 if anybody else needs them. VX in Aldershot wanted £92 for one bank. Thanks for all the advice. Next it's the gearbox so will back on this weekend for advice no doubt once I have grown somemore skin on my Knuckles

Mark , I read in great detail your Technical Post on the changing of the Cam Cover Gaskets and got genuine VX Parts and the Black Goo to do the job. Unfortunately I had to go to Germany at the last minute for a meeting so one of the lads did the change. I had already gone through and removed most of the oil from the Plug Wells. I got in contact with VX this morning for the replacement HT Leads and they wanted to charge me £92 for one bank. I've been in touch with Euro Car Parts and they have quoted me £49 for the whole set. I can't see that there would be a massive difference in performance for the HT Leads??????

OK. Sounds like that maybe the problem then. The Plugs were submerged in oil but I managed to get most of that out as best I could but obviously was like that for sometime. Will get new HT Leads and see how I go with that.  Cheers

Yes the EML comes on with the ignition and then goes out when started and stays out. I've let her cool down for the last couple of hours but is still rough now when I start her up

There's no fault light on or indication at all from the dash that there is a fault

Omega General Help / Running Rough When Hot!!

One of the guys changed the Cam cover Gaskets for me this week when I was away. Got back late friday and started the car up at work to get home. All seemed ok but after about 5 mins she started to run really rough and got worse over the 10 mile trip home. Wouldn't go above 50mph, no guts when I tried to accelerate and she just kept misfiring.

Opened up the bonnet on Saturday morning and checked the HT Leads to ensure they were all seated properly and were all fine. Started her up and she was fine again unitl I took her out on a run and again once she was warmed up she started missing again. I check all the breather pipes all the connectors to ensure they all went back on again after the gasket change.

Don't know what else to try??? Anybody got any ideas??

Omega General Help / Oil Leak and Burning Oil Smell
« on: 30 January 2007, 19:20:38 »
Right here goes for my first lesson in Car Maintenance.  I've looked at all the other areas such as the FAQ's and Technical Help but need to know where to start and what order to do everything. From the following description you can tell I'm mechanically inexpierienced but willing to give it a go so sorry if you are repeating yourselves for the hundredth time.

I have got quite a severe oil leak on my 2.5 v6. I couldn't spot where it was coming from as the whole engine was pretty dirty. Gave it all a bit of a clean last week and have had another look. I've got a small amout of oil leaking from the neck of the filler itself and on closer inspection the filler neck is loose and looks like one side has snapped off of something as the whole thing came away in my hand when I twisted to get the cap off. (oops) How do I replace this and the bit it should be attached to?

I don't think the main leak is from here as there seems to be more oil on my drive that would leak from that point so I think there is a bigger leaker coming from further down the block somewhere. I read somewhere on here that it could be leaking from an oil sensor on the sump??? I haven't been able to find the link again since. Help?

I have a real smell of burning oil when at low speeds and the fan is on in the cabin but guess that could be the leaking oil or blocked breathers etc.

I also read on one of the guides about the tapping sound from the engine.

So basically my engine needs a bit of tlc and I need to know where to start and what order to do anything before I use all the guides on this site and end up taking the engine to bits and putting it back together and then finding I need to take it to bits again before I can carry out the next task.

All advice gratefully welcome with list of tools and parts.

Newbie Welcome Area / Hi to All!!
« on: 08 January 2007, 16:45:56 »
Hi All. New to Omegas and car maintenance as a whole. Brought a well used 1994 2.5 V6 Estate before christmas as my old Golf gave up the ghost. I'm finding more and more bits to do on it if I get the time so will be asking for help as I have the equivalent of two left feet when it comes to going under the bonnet.  SKI
