Omega General Help / Re: Brake Pedal Creep
« on: 19 January 2007, 23:46:45 »
Hello Idris

My brother used a mechanic in Tolworth (next town on from Kingston Upon Thames).  The mechanic was also used by 4 of his work colleagues who rated him highly.  His name is Steve and his business is called Sunray Motors tel: 0208 337 7866.

It's just him on his own in a large domestic style garage but he has all the gear and more importantly, knows his stuff.  He's very thorough, very reliable and does a decent honest job. Plus his prices are very reasonable.  Knowing some of the people who recommended him I think he will sort your problem out.

If he's too far away you might want to look up "Good garages" on the Honest John site: www.honestjohn.co.uk.  There are a few garages in West London on there.

I tried my brake pedal tonight and it was solid.  Didn't budge.  Never has though.

Brilliant.  You Administrator fellas seem to really know your stuff on Omegas. :)

Will the speedo on the new 'box match the older one?

Thank you.  Much appreciated.

Hello

Can anyone help with this?

I need to replace the auto gearbox on my '94 car and have the chance of getting a very low mileage one off a '99 car.

With the minor facelift in '97 came some changes to the gearbox.

Does anyone know what the changes were?

Were there big changes e.g. the mapping of the gearbox ECU would not match up with the engine ECU?

Or were the changes so minor I could swap bits over from old box to the new one?

Both cars are 2.5 litre petrol.

Thank you. Yes, I was thinking the second hand 'box was the best option.

Omega General Help / Can you help? Noisy auto box
« on: 16 January 2007, 19:26:56 »
Hello

I've a '94 2.5CDX petrol 114k miles and the auto box has just started making a noise similar to 2 pens being tapped against one another.

A local specialist reckons it's a broken plastic washer on the Flix plate I think it called. It's a £450 to £650 job to fix.

Anyone got knowledge on this? Does it sound right or could it be something else?

I know the car is not worth the cost of repair. But the car is mint and I've had it 10 years so maybe a second hand 'box is the best solution.  Anyone got any other ideas?

Richard

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to you guys who set this forum up and all those of you who have contributed to it.

By digging around the forum I'm pretty certain I've found the answer I was looking for. I have an intensely annoying stalling problem on my '94 2.5CDX.  The crank sensor has been replaced plus ICV plus MAF sensor. But, seems the crank sensor is the culprit. (Got a code 19). This time will ask the mechanic to pay extra special attention to where the wiring goes!! :)

Reroute the wiring when replacing crank sensor. GM made a bit of a arse of the wiring route. Details in Maint Guides (by laidback66 from meory)

Thanks. Will do.

Yeah, I agree. James offered to take a gearbox off a car he is stripping, box it up and send it to me by courier to save me the drive to his place.

Top guy. Exellent attitude.
