that's correct, if you do as you've posted, then the powersounder won't sound.  :y

Brilliant, thanks :D I thought I was going mad  :y

edit: not totally dead but not far from it, very slow warning siren when checking the battery by turning on the lights. Wouldn't turn over etc. Thank you

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / car Battery removal
« on: 28 November 2010, 14:09:37 »
Following on from the aux belt failure, the battery has died. I know it isn't as simple as disconnecting the terminals and refitting. I can remember some steps (below) but I can't for the life of me find the info again. What I remember is

1. Turn on the ignition, then turn off.
2. Within 15 secs disconnect the negative terminal, then positive.
3. Refit battery
4. See if it runs.

Is this right? I imagine the powersounder will probably go off as well.

Omega General Help / Wishbone replacement - Anyone in S/E or S/W?
« on: 16 January 2011, 16:49:10 »
Hi all,

Just checked my tyres and they have the dreaded wear on the inside edge. There is a bit of movement on the wishbones so I guess it is time :) Are there any budding mechanics in the SE or SW be prepared to do the front wishbones?

:)
Yep, it is the piece that goes from the Res to the T-piece behind the inlet hose.

I've got a load here if you need any, I also have 90 degree and traight through rubber connectors :y

I may take you up on that offer! I will have a proper look under the bonnet tomorrow and check that is the only piece I need.

edit: A picture does say a 1000 words so I will sort a pic out tomorrow as well

Omega General Help / Vacuum hoses
« on: 13 January 2011, 22:40:48 »
I've had a look at my Omega and I think there is a vacuum pipe missing. It is the one going from the T-piece of the front multi-ram to the vacuum res at the bottom of the inlet ducts. Does anyone know a part number for this?

Oh I'm getting that you think they are shyte perfectly. I just don't agree. Its clear that anything I say is going to be slammed so I will not bother and so I will not reply again to this topic.

We agree to disagree and I will leave it there.

Slingalongs where on the sport stars which came later, I'd rather them than the 912's.

So to be clear you have driven 912s which are known to be rubbish and are then tarring the 452s with the same brush?

If doing the pulley I would imagine it is a case of just undoing the nut at the front of the tensioner unit?

Yes it is! I've never taken enough notice of the thread when I've removed mine in the past, but you need a 15mm spanner/socket  :y
I'm sure you'll get the tensioner part numbers posted soon-ish  :y

Thanks :)

I meant the bolt that holds the entire unit to the block has an unusual pattern. i.e. I don't think a standard socket would fit. I should have taken a pic as I am now 200m away from the car, doh.

One other point of interest, when I looked at the pulley it was smooth rather than grooved? I thought it would make sense to have a grooved pulley.

Omega General Help / Some part numbers for aux tensioner / pulley
« on: 21 November 2010, 21:01:39 »
Hi all,

On Friday the aux belt pulley failed and then shredded the aux belt. Fingers crossed the block will be fine.... about 10-15secs without a pump before I managed to switch off.

I've had a search around and managed to find the part numbers for the aux belt from Andy B (thanks).
Omega Part Number Retail Price Normal Trade Trade Club
Fan belts
2.5/2.6/3.0/3.2 with air con. 93181720 £32.30 £27.46 £19.62

Could anyone tell me the part number for the tensioner or pulley? Had a look and couldn't see that. Since this is very important I am back on the road next weekend, I'm tempted to change the whole thing as it has seized solid.

While under there I noticed that the bolt holding the unit to the block is not a standard nut fitment, does anyone know what type it is? If doing the pulley I would imagine it is a case of just undoing the nut at the front of the tensioner unit?

Omega General Help / Re: New clutch needed?
« on: 21 January 2010, 13:48:42 »
I was wondering if it was just moaning due to being cold/damp. No coolant loss at all. I am doing about 700m (50m commute and 2*220mile journeys) a week sitting mostly on the motorway so it should get nicely warmed up :D (Certainly doing the mileage has transformed how well it runs). On the mornings it is only like this for the first few miles and does ease off.

Omega General Help / New clutch needed?
« on: 21 January 2010, 13:30:27 »
Hmmm, I have a suspicion that the clutch is on the way in the Omega but I’d like some other opinions. Firstly the clutch is not slipping at all tested using 5th going up a hill etc. When the car is cold (and the very first start of the day) it is hard to engage 1st or reverse, but if you drop it into third first, then you can use them without issues. However once the car is warm then it is fine. Literally silky smooth. The car is a 2.6 manual. For clarity I have not been driving it in the snow nor am I the type to ride the clutch down the road :)

Any ideas or is the clutch a likely culprit? I will pay attention when I go home this evening but I bet that it will be fine.

Omega General Help / Re: Running temperature 2.6

Aha! Thanks, I thought it was running cool but I had no other symptoms fuel, poor heating etc. Sounds like it is opening a bit early then.

Omega General Help / Running temperature 2.6
« on: 06 December 2009, 20:41:58 »
Hi all,

I have had my eye on the running temp of my Omega for a few weeks. What is the correct running temp of the 2.6 engines? Reason I ask is I have noticed that on a steady run at ~70 for 100 or so miles the temperature sits just above the second notch. My meaning is
1st notch = 0c
2nd notch = mid point
3rd notch = 80c

I have no issues like increased fuel use or bad heating. If you put your foot down for a few mins then it will hit 80c, likewise in traffic the fans cut in as normal at around 90-95c. Just wondering if this is something that I should look at? Bearing in mind it only settles at this point when doing 70-75 for about 100-150 miles on the motorway just ticking over with no accelerating (travel late at night).
