« on: 20 May 2012, 17:53:28 »
Main Alarm? Can someone please explain the mode of operation of the main alarm and where the power sounder fits in - Is the main alarm just powered off the main battery then? ???

Omega General Help / Power Sounder Disconnection
« on: 20 May 2012, 17:24:19 »
Just about to disconnect my power sounder as I suspect the rechargeable batteries are draining my main battery. Removed driver side wiper and rubber seals as described in maintenance guide but access is still a bit tight to say the least! I now have a throuple of questions 1. Is it possible to remove the power sounder for further investigation without removing the whole scuttle? 2. Do I just disconnect the power sounder or should I disconnect what looks like a horn as well 3. Does the alarm noise come from both the horn and the power sounder. ;)

Omega General Help / Re: Cannister Type Oil Filter.
« on: 13 May 2012, 19:44:17 »
I think I just found the answer - on the maintenance guides to convert from cartridge type oil filter to screw-on filter it states a filter housing torque value of 45Nm - sounds about right to me unless anyone knows different I think I'll go with that :)

The lid is stamped with 15Nm but I need the torque value for the cannister housing itself. :y

Omega General Help / Cannister Type Oil Filter.

Removed the housing for the cannister/cartridge type oil filter to access oil cooler pipes connections. I now need to re-fit but couldn't find a torque value for the cannister type oil filter housing - Anyone know what it should be? ???

Omega General Help / Re: Thread Sealant Again.

Update: Used Red Hermatite for the cooler plate screws and the sealant for the oil cooler plate turned out to be grey same colour as the original so all good - cheers. :y

Omega General Help / Re: Thread Sealant Again.

Now you mention it Andy it could have been red hermetite (there was definitely a resemblance to that). It wasn't remnants of the sealant used on the oil cooler plate because that on mine was grey and I suspect that might have been the original sealant as the car has only done 33,458 miles with full history (same family last 11 1/2 years). ???

The new sealant for the oil cooler plate from Vx looks like it is black - supplied in a mini sealant tube that is applied with a silicon sealant type gun/applicator.

Noticed when stripping out the oil cooler that the base mount for the inlet manifold screws had a blue sealant on them and thanks to the forum I now know this is a medium strength thread lock. :)

My question now is the screws that secure the oil cooler cover plate in position have a similar sealant on the threads but it is red in colour - what will the difference be? Might I assume it is a high strength sealant, but would it need to be? :-\

Omega General Help / Re: Battery Fixing
« on: 12 May 2012, 19:04:41 »
I would have thought if you have bought the battery from the Vx stealers and its the right battery for the car it should fit with the standard clamp - I found them very competitive when I bought mine and it came with a 3 year warranty. I'd check the you've got the right battery for the car. :y

Omega General Help / Re: Radiator Drain Maintenance.
« on: 11 May 2012, 11:39:12 »
Thanks for the clarification on that Abiton much appreciated :y and like Andy B's picture mine was the same when I removed it, but it didn't seem right that one of the 'o' rings was free to move and logic says it must be out of position - as it was, the drain cock would be relying on just one 'o' ring to make a seal. Well worth checking this during a coolant change - implications of the drain cock failing :o

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Battery Problems?
« on: 11 May 2012, 11:14:03 »
Update: right then picked the battery up this morning (after ringing them to find out what was going on - told it was ready to collect). Picked the battery up and they assured me they had re-charged it and it was sound, so good result as there was nothing to pay (still inside 3 year warranty). When I got it home I thought the green light in the bubble indicator looked a bit dim so I checked the voltage across the terminals with a multimeter and it indicted just shy of 13.1 Volts so I'm happy with that.

Busy today with the family so tomorrow I can start re-fitting my oil cooler as the forecast is for Saturday to be the best day of weekend.

I will check out the maintenance guides as suggested by Kevin as well - cheers :y
