Hi! I am an OAP who bought my disabled wife a Facelift year 2000 3litre Elite auto last year, when her Scorpio Ultima expired on her. The Siemens 2013 unit screen has never been too good, and the top slot for the CD player/satnav dashboard radio units didn't work although the rest of the infotainment messaging system and bottom slot 4 disc CD player worked perfectly. Having taken the car to the local idiots disguised as Vauxhall main dealers, who gleefully informed me that the laser head in the satnav slot was u/s and that it would cost £800 (!) to replace (oh yeah!), I found that only the CD drive motor was u/s and that the laser unit was fine... What a surprise.
At ginormous expense I purchased via Ebay a 2013 unit c/w screen and aerial etc that had been fitted to a 2003 Signum, and had the twin units of the 2013 swapped over, utilising the existing wiring. (I was unable to use the Signum screen as it has a fancy charcoal ABS screen moulding surround). The stereo works well as does the CD player both top and bottom, but I still can't get the satnav to work, or the radio to stay tuned in, and the computer screen goes blank after a few seconds just showing the message "Display safe".
Having found your OOF site a few days ago, I seem to recall from the anguished correspondence that both the twin unit and the screen have to be coded together as a pair and that therefore the replacement 2013 set won't work with the original screen. Is this the case? If so, how does one go about matching the codes, please? I have a note of the original radio etc codes and those from the replacement unit. If this is impossible, how feasible is it to swap over the u/s drive motor behind the original 2013 satnav slot with the working one from the ex-Signum unit, refitting the original unit back in the car, thus still employing the original radio codes from the original radio/satnav and existing satnav screen? Any assistance will be gratefully received!
I make just these comments. My own present Ford Cosworth Ultima 2.9i has been trouble free for the last eight years, and is a damned sight easier to fix, even though it has almost as many gizmos! Also you can use the cigar lighter socket to keep the the battery charged up. Finally why don't the loonies at Vauxhall know what they are doing? I paid a tenner for the wife's >:(Omega handbook only to be supplied witha pre facelift one in which the controls, instruments etc are totally different, being told by their storeman that there was never a facelift one printed by GM! Strange! I have found one on Ebay without any trouble...
