Shes like stamp collecting; something you look forward to doing in your spare time but you wouldnt own up to doing if your mates asked!

General Car Chat / Re: Bye Bye SAAB
« on: 18 January 2012, 14:47:46 »
Its a real shame to see Saab go to the wall.  :'(
I have owned 4 Saabs, 3 9000's and 9-5 in the past, i enjoyed owning all of them. They were all pretty reliable, the turbos were bulletproof. They really could take high mileages, especially the pre GM 9000's. Liked them for their little eccentricities in the cabin too. Guess there will be some very cheap ones around now, might try and find a 9000 Aero, nearly got one before i went for my miggy.

General Car Chat / End of the DVLA regional centres
« on: 13 December 2011, 14:53:10 »
I have just read that the Govt plans to shut all 39 of the regional DVLA centres to save money, and centralise all fuctions at Swansea. What do others think about this move?
I cant help but think this will make things even harder for the average motorist.

General Car Chat / Re: saab 9-5

I was interested to read this topic. I have owned a 9-5 aero, it was in some ways the nicest car i have owned. Very fast, and i mean quick. But its front wheel drive so you will wear through front tyres very quickly, even being careful with your right foot. The best seats around, so comfy! Downside can be fuel consumption as they are no better than a miggy for mpg.
Insurance will be high too on most models, and their isthe issue of parts for some things.

When i bought my last miggy a year ago i got pulled over by the police even though the car was insured and taxed! The police computer hadnt shown it was insured, the police officer told me it can take 48 hours to show up on their computer. Not worth risking it in my opinion.

General Car Chat / Re: What car to replace Omega?

I am tempted by the VW Passat CC, especially in the top 3.5 spec. Not now but in a few years when they are cheaper, lol.
I think they have a stylish look that follows on from the miggy.
What do others think?

I have had that prob i my 2000 elite too; i found that trying the button on the dash a few times did free it up. Might be that simple if you keep ur fingers crossed! :)

Just done the paperclip test and the two codes that came up were 49-Battery voltage high; and 73-Mass air flow sensor voltage low.
Any more clues?

Omega General Help / Very strange behaviour
« on: 27 August 2011, 15:43:57 »
Hiya, i would be grateful if anyone could advise me on what might be the prob?
I have a 2.5 elite auto, yr 2000. Today it started fine but as i started to pull away first the engine electrics warning light came on, then the automatic grbox warning on the display flashed up. Then more warning lights came on,followed closely by all the instrument dials like the speedo and rev counter not working. Then the warning lights proceeded to go on and off intermittently as i drove along.
After switching off the engine and restarting the same thing happened, started fine then on accelerating all the warning lights went on and off. When i brake the dials all start to work again. Car is idling fine, with no warnings. The s button on the gearlever is not working out now so i assume there is a prob with the gearbox but cant understand why all the other warning lights and dials are playing up?
Any ideas would be welcomed.
