Bit of a Stepup from the lowly Honda CG125!  Can't believe I actually have it!!!

Best thing, Insurance is only £128 for the year!!!  Utter Madness!!!!

Need to get my legs though, not ridden it yet, and I know its going to scare the living shit out of me, but even so...

General Discussion Area / Had my bike test today...
« on: 04 June 2009, 23:26:18 »
...and passed  :D

2 minors, 1 for hesitation, 1 for balance, but other than that was great  :) So now I can't wait to say bye bye to the CG and get something more suited to my size  ;D

To say I'm chuffed is an understatement!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Had my 2nd DAS Lesson on Sunday, first time on a 500cc, and OH MY GOD!!

Really can't explain how bloody awesome it felt! The bike was still a little too small for me I felt, and got cramp in my thigh muscles a few times due to my legs being bent back further than I'm used too, but it certainly felt a million times better than riding the 125! It actually felt lighter when riding at speed compared to the 125, but certainly noticed the difference in weight when doing the bay parking bit on the CBT course before we set out!

Not sure if I broke it too... the Oil and Coolant warning lights were flickering half way through, and on constantly on the run back to the instructors centre... oops!

So yeah, just had a mad panic finding all my documents for tomorrow (CBT, Theory Cert), as my stepdad decided to re-organise my files downstairs and they are now all over the place  >:(

Test at 9:30, test center is a good 20+ mile ride from the house, so will get a bit more practice on the 500 before hand (leave here at 8am), and then a massive 10min to do the test apparently  :-?

Then all going well, Module 2 test (on-road segment) is on the 4th of June  :y

I bought some new rear shocks for the CG the other week, they were delivered today...  However they are not the same as the ones in the picture!

This is the advert and the shocks I bought for the CG...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=200319998142

Notice, at the right of the picture, you can see they are height adjustable, as are the ones on my CG (Brazil Model) which is a 52 registered bike.

The ones which arrived are these...

Nice and shiny, I'll give them that... However....

They are not height adjustable as in the pictures :S

Quick google look, the China model of the CG does not have adjustable suspension, but the Brazil model does!!  Now I did ask the seller prior to buying these IF they are compatible with the Brazil model, which they replied Yes

I asked:

They replied

So yeah... they aren't the ones as described in the picture (and yes, I did check my existing suspension against the picture in the listing, and they are the same exactly), the new ones are completely different.  I've not even offered them upto the bike to see if they fit either, as I'm not sure where to go with this...

Any advice??

Cheers  :(

General Discussion Area / Another bike question... Clothing...
« on: 19 April 2009, 15:26:46 »
I've had a J&S branded Jacket, and IXS pants for a year now, so decided to treat myself and get an IXS jacket to match the pants today from J&S.

Main reason for this is I was getting fed up from riding and the pants & jacket not being fastened together, so letting in all the elements at the back :(  So now I have the IXS combo, the little zip fastens them together perfectly!

However... the Zip fastens about 2 inches too high up the back of the Jacket, and when I'm riding, its pulling down like a crazy little midget in a circus...

So I'm just wondering, would it be safe to lower the zip on the Jacket by about 2", so giving a bit more free play?  Not sure if I should have the zip unstitched and then stitched lower down, or just cut the fabric which the zip is stitched too (its like a flap for those who don't know IXS) and then extend it with another piece of fabric?

Just to note, I now have the IXS Tengai Trousers, and IXS Eldorado Jacket.
Jacket being replaced is the J&S Maxi Jacket

Cheers :)

I'm debating fitting some sort of switched feed for running some stuff (phone charger mainly), and duno where to begin.  Ideally I want something I can move over to another bike as-and-when I get one.

Now I did find this courtesy of google http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/2186/621/ but can't find something similar in the UK, so guess its something I'll just need to make up...

So, idea (which I think might work)...

12v/30A Switched relay - http://www.holden.co.uk/displayproduct.asp?pCode=080.081
In-line Blade Fuse Holder - http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=30444&doy=13m4&C=SO&U=strat15
Blade Fuse Box - something like this http://www.extremeautoaccessories.co.uk/products.php?section=4090
Handlebar mounted power socket - again, something like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400043158204

Connect pin 30 to battery positive (but have a 30A fuse between the relay and the battery positive connector)
Connect pin 87 on the relay to the fuse box
Connect pin 85 to a source of switched ignition (rear driving light for example)
Connect pin 86 to frame (earth/ground)

Then run 1 of the fused outputs to the accessory plug (5A should do for the accessory plug) and again, ground it to a suitable point on the frame.

Reckon its a viable way to get it done??

General Discussion Area / Went out on the bike today!
« on: 12 April 2009, 20:05:49 »
Joined a local biker forum a while back, and went for my first ride out with them today!  And what a day...

Left mine at 9am, and got back about 7:30  ;D  All in I reckon I did about 220 miles, all through Wales.  There were 2 other 125's so I wasn't always on my own, the others would go off have a play, but they always marked the junctions and waited for the tail-enders before moving on which was nice :)

Makes me want to get my DAS done and out of the way so I can get on the bigger bikes and play myself :)

Took some piccies, made a GPS track (although my battery died when we got back to Bala), its all good!!

General Discussion Area / Keep the Estate or the Saloon??
« on: 08 April 2009, 11:16:43 »
Bah I'm having a funny 'ol mood...

I'm unsure if I want to keep the Saloon, or keep the Estate...

Saloon is a 1998 'S' Elite 2.5...  Had a bit of work done to it, is an auto...
Estate is a 1999 'V' MV6 Ex-plod...  Is a bit battered, but could polish up well...

Estate also has no climate (how hard to wire in climate to a non-climate car??), and an array of electrical problems...
Saloon needs the rear 1/4's welding in, aswell as some bodywork itself...

Either way, which ever one I keep will be getting a 3.2 fitted, and also a steinmetz kit...

I really, Really don't know what to do :(

My renewal is up in just over a month, so I'm doing a few online quotes (as you do) to gauge how much it will be...

Now, last year I paid the grand total of £87 with Bennetts for cover on my CG, having just done my CBT.  Only TPFT mind, but was upto 6000 miles, and covered the panniers too.  Worth noting I'm 27, been driving since 2000, no accidents or claims on either the bike or car, and currently have 6 points. SP50 in 2005, and SP30 in 2007), so its not like I can blame it on getting points or anything else between now and then.

Now, 12 months down the line, I have 1 years NCB on the Bike...  Quotes are ranging from £110+, and thats without adding the Panniers in!!  With them, prices sky rocket (and I'm not joking here) going upto £10009!!!!!

Bennetts are even quoting online £148 now...

Bloody ridiculous!!  I can't wait to see what the actual renewal cost is when the letter arrives...  I know they always try it on when it comes to renewal (my car insurance is usually always £300 more than quotes elsewhere)

 >:( >:( >:(

Just to show, here is the £10009 quote...

madness!!!!

How much reckon I may need to get it goin??  Might get a few cans and put a tenners worth in, see if it starts then...

Well least the Elite is working  ;D

Just booked it for next Wednesday, just wondering if anyone has any tips or pointers in regards to it??

I know its pretty much the same as the car one, just with some random mechanical and bike ones thrown in for good measure...

So yeah,,, any tips??

Cheers :)

Tagged along to a dyno day today, and gave the Omega its first every powerrun during my ownership (and also will be a good comparison for the 3.2 when its in)  Anyways, here are the graphs...

Power at Wheels / AF Ratio

General Discussion Area / Bike Folk - Scottoilers
« on: 17 March 2009, 14:19:11 »
Just had the bike recovered to the garage as the chain went on the way to Uni, wouldn't mind, but I only checked it and oiled it 2 months ago!

Been recommended one of these now by a few people, so just wondering what the biking folk on here think of them or if they use them?

I know its no substitute to regular maintenance, but I'm just after something to give me extra peace of mind hoping that I won't have the same fun as today, especially after paying out for 2 new sprockets, chain, and some various other bits which were damaged...

Yes its going on a CG125, but it will be transferred over to whatever bike I get once I've finally got round to doing my test.

Taa :)
