General Discussion Area / Woodworm
« on: 05 April 2010, 11:27:05 »
Mornin' all, the mother in law has discovered woodworm in the floorboards of her house. Her other son in law is a builder ::), and has suggested removing the carpets furniture and all the floorboards to treat them, and the joists. Tha lady is nearly eighty and as you could imagine is very upset at the disruption this will cause.
I've heard that some pest control companies can carry out fogging under the floor space that causes minimum disruption and in many cases this can be done without removing furniture, carpets etc.
Has anyone had any experienc of this treatment asd advise please.

Hi all, being a great believer in recycling and reusing components, just done something I have been meaning to do for a while, just registered online to donate organs after my death after being prompted by a t.v. ad. How many of you "out there" are going to donate, and what do you think of the about organ donation?

General Discussion Area / M.P's expences
« on: 04 February 2010, 18:26:14 »
Now the trough has been removed where are all the piggys going? It's estimated that half of all M.P's will not be standing for re- election.
The cost of the report into expences is higher than the money that has to be payed back  >:(, they should all be forced to pay costs on a pro rata basis.

General Discussion Area / A GIFT TO 4X4 OWNERS
« on: 09 January 2010, 17:07:48 »
All the current pressure on 4x4 owners to get rid of there gas guzzlers may backfire due to the current weather conditions. If I owned one it would be the ideal opportunity to stick two fingers up to the green lobby. The totally inadequate attempt by councils up and down the country to improve road safety by gritting has brought four wheel drive into a league of it's own, and the fact that some 4x4 drivers are actually being praised for using there vehicals to help out communitys with anything from recovery stranded cars to delivering meals on wheels to elderly people.  If I owned I would certainly think twice about getting rid of it now.

General Discussion Area / VHF MARINE HAND HELD RADIO
« on: 04 November 2009, 20:49:46 »
Hi everyone. Can any one tell me what sort of amp output charge level my hand held radio would require I bought it second hand but it didn't have a charger with it.
It's a Silva S12
The spec is: operating voltage 8.4 v DC
Max charge voltage                 13 V
RF output                                4W (High power)
                                               1W (Low power)

TIA

General Discussion Area / Wheel balancing weights
« on: 13 October 2009, 17:13:27 »
Had to go and have a puncture repaired yesterday. While I was waiting I read a notice on the wall stating that due to new regulations lead balancing weights are no longer allowed and have been replaced by zinc based ones. As the cost of zinc ones are considerably higher they have no alternative but to pass this cost onto the customer. WTF :o when you think about the amount of lead that has been and will be used in industry, constuction and manufacture, in the grand scheme of things I fail to see what difference to the environment lead wheel balancing weights will make.
