Can those who use an oil extractor give any recommendations?

With my new VW TDi, as the oil filter is accessible from above, I plan on using one.

Would need to have 5-6L capacity I think.

Omega General Help / Side Skirt Removal

I'm going to pop the side skirts off the 2.2 this morning, what do we think I'll find? 

If I'm serek fitting to fit new clutch, possible new suspension & air-con rad to my trusty steed, I think I need to double check it's not rotten there.

Never had an advisory to rust before, but it's always been fairly rusty underneath and the bottom of the doors and arches are starting to go.

Option B instead of replacing the 2.2 is I splash some cash and give the 2.2 a bit of love, one thing that failed about 8 years ago is the aircon. But i'd really like it working again, so given the compressor has not fired since about 2008 I think a new one is in order...

Omega General Help / 2.2 Petrol Clutch Replacement.

So for laughs I rang my local Vauxhall Specialist, as my clutch on 2.2 is on it's last legs. There is no way I could change one myself and a fatty little admin felt it's not a job for him and garage.

So I've used this local place before just for MOT's, been happy with what they do. Failed it on rear light and emissions two weeks ago, let me take it away and fix it and come back for a free re-test. Normally they say they must use their own parts, but had no problem me fixing a few bulbs.

Firstly I was told the DMF wheel must be changed with a 2.2 clutch?  He was clear this must be done, it's only available from Vauxhall and its £609+ vat 

Without DMF, but saying he would not do it without. Came in at £575 all fitted. 

Might as well keep driving it till clutch let's go

Omega General Help / 3.2 Coolant Leak

The 3.2 has developed a leak, I can see moisture around where the engine block meets gearbox bell housing. It's dripping from two torx bolts, that said there is moisture around the engine sump.

Checked HBV, pipes all dry. Appears to loose coolant on the move, nothing much on the ground after being parked up. Lost around 2 fingers worth from header tank from 25 mile run, clear whiff of coolant when opening the door after stopping.

Had good feel around back of the block, can't feel anything. Can only think of the oil cooler plate or coolant bridge? But would expect bigger losses, oil looks fine.

Just what I don't need this week.

For the 3.2 LPG Project, I need a V6 Injector loom with the two grey plugs, I need as much loom on the other end as possible. 6-8 inches. (queue jokes here)

Omega General Help / LPG Injectors: Valtek Vs OMVL

If I do go the route of LPG'ing the 3.2, the two main kits on fleabay are the same bar the injectors.

£329 - Valtek
£339 - OMVL

Full Kit:

ECU STAG-300 ISA2 with wiring loom
Reducer SHARK
Injectors rail REG OMVLx2 3 ohm
Map/vacuum sensor PS-02
Buzzer
Temperature sensor

There is nothing in it price wise really, but what are the OMVL injectors like? I have Valtek on the 2.2, happy with them but with 3.2 need something bit more performance focused with extra horses it has.

Would play in rear prop shaft bearing cause a knocking, from rear over speed bumps?

Get a metallic knocking sound on rough roads and speed bumps from the rear, can't find any play in anything but prop shaft bearing

General Car Chat / The Omega Replacement conundrum.

Many here are facing it, there has been several topics on it. Some have gone Jag, BMW or Lexus routes....

What other options are there? A budget of around £5-6k ish, less than 100k miles and diesel auto are my key requirements.

With nice optional extra's being Xenon lights, Sat Nav and leather...

As per previous thread, my hunting ground is:

1) CLS 320 Diesel
2) Volvo S80
3) Volvo V70

300C's been discounted as just too American and not keen on the Interior. Don't want E Class, 3/5/7 Series Beemers. Audi's in my budget are generally star ship miles.

That said A8's around 2004-6 ish the 3.0/4.2 diesels are within budget. But think they will be pricey to fix/run

I've decided to sell my motorbike 

Recently someone I had met only once, but was an extended family member on MrsT side had a bit of a smash. By the description of being air-lifted to hospital and it being touch and go, I assumed it was a 60mph+ smash. But no he was on a 30mph road, he went through back window of someone turning in front of him. (it was his fault sadly)

I'd seen smashes before, when riding into London you would see odd bike down and people around him/her. But this time it was how it affected his family, I was getting the stories of impact to his family. Wife having to get Kids with friends to be looked after, so she could go visit him. Kids asking where is Daddy and so on, he will also need a lot of after care having to go daily to a nurse/doctor even when he is released from hospital.  Some of the meds were so strong, he was not making sense on a lot of visits his family would make to hospital as well. I could not put my family through that....

So that combined with fact I used bike for 60 days in total last year (I kept a record) and so far this year around 30, thanks to crappy June weather. I'm not using it that much, I don't ride in the rain, don't like it.

With 2.2 getting on a bit and to be honest I'm getting a bit fed up of a manual in heavy daily traffic (pass the humble pie?!) - I think it's time to let the bike go and put what I can together for a replacement to the Omega.


I'll open up the floor to guess what I'm looking to replace it with and no it's not another Omega.
