Omega Electrical and Audio Help / MFL Climate Panels
« on: 19 November 2020, 12:33:45 »
Just wondering if anyone else has suffered the same problem I have last week with a climate panel?

Basically, the backlight illumination had quickly gone dull but the temperature displays were good.

Had to take the radio out for something else so continued the strip-down of the panel. I was unable to remove the little green bulb holders so took the assembly completely apart to the circuit board to find that the bulbs had completely melted the little plastic lighting strips so no light could pass through. As soon as I tried to twist and remove the bulbs the plastic strips literally broke into little 1cm or so long sections. Was almost as if the bulbs were too powerful and getting too hot.

These were bulbs from VX about 2 or maybe 3 years ago, not generic ones.

I have put another panel in and some new bulbs (generic 1.2w ones this time) but was interested to see if this is a common problem or not?

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Windscreen heated jet loom
« on: 12 November 2020, 14:14:21 »
Does anyone have a heated washer jet loom for a MFL (but attached to the bonnet) or just the plug?

Ages ago, I had to change the drivers washer jet due to internal blockage and the plug disintegrated on the loom side so the new washer jet has nothing to connect to.

Yes, I could simply cut and join but I rather like to do things more properly where possible.

Can anyone help?

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Sunroof Motor Bulb WTD
« on: 12 November 2020, 09:58:57 »
Would anyone have some spare bulbs for the sunroof motor or a good equivalent?

I have some bulbs but the tails are too thin to connect into the sockets on the PCB.

All the Led versions I can find easily online are 3-5V, not 12V (assuming lesser voltages would simply blow)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Relay question
« on: 08 October 2020, 19:39:27 »
Quick question, was removing the alarm indicator relay this evening and saw this other white relay (Bottom left in photo).

I was wondering what it was for as did it have time to have a proper look. I know red is servotronic (not installed on my car), grey relay is now sitting on my living room table.

Pic is a generic from another thread and not of my car btw.

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Headlamp multi plug wanted
« on: 14 June 2020, 19:03:37 »
Was wondering if anyone would have a multi plug for the headlamp for a halogen headlamp unit?

One of my earth pins has started to disintegrate and after many attempts to fix it, is finally starting to become terminal.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / X20XEV Lambda Sensor
« on: 13 May 2020, 19:13:48 »
Guys, want a second opinion on an issue I am having with an o2 sensor on my X20XEV 1998 Estate.

Last week or so I have randomly had the EML come on soon after starting a drive (about a minute I believe). Car still runs fine, no problems. Turn the car off and back on, even straight away, light goes out and stays out. This can happen cold or hot as well.

Have run Tech 2 on it and the code is P0130. Live data shows the sensor working normally through its range from 11mV upwards. Hard throttle goes open loop, sports mode goes open loop on overrun and high rpm/load. Closed loop at all other times once coolant temp is above threshold.

When the EML is on, the reading is open loop and either 39mV or 11mV (cannot remember which) and is static. This obviously would give the P0130 code as o2 performance is out of spec.

I cannot remember changing the lambda sensor since I got the car in 2012 and it has done probably 50k since. Cat is new last year but as is before sensor should make no difference. No visible or audible leaks from manifold or other but, again, this would give probably a different code if there was a leak.

My question is... is this an internal defect in the Titania lambda sensor (but is weird in the randomness) or wiring (nothing obvious I can see but have not had a chance to disconnect plug, etc..)?

Any thoughts? I am going to look through my collection and see if I have an old sensor from either my X20XEV Cavalier I had or from an older 1994 X20XEV Omega I helped break up a few years ago and may have kept to swap but want to clarify fault before I go spending the best part of £60 on a new TDK lambda sensor.

General Car Chat / Another year.....
« on: 07 December 2019, 18:24:08 »
Another year, another MOT pass 😄

Sailed through with no advisories and really good emissions.

0.07% CO and HC of 23 with a pass level of 0.5% and 200HC respectively on a 2.0 ecotec.

Not bad for 121000 miles daily driver. Yay.

Omega General Help / TC Brake Pads
« on: 02 August 2019, 15:10:42 »
Just thought anyone might be interested, but my local Vx dealer is saying that the Omega is no longer on TC for brake pads.

How true this is, I cannot confirm as it is WJ Kings in Welling, Kent....

Omega General Help / Monroe Air Shock conversion

Hey guys, just wondering what your thoughts are on the Monroe Air Shock lots with the separate Schraeder valve for estate cars that run normal shock absorbers?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Aerial leads and connections
« on: 13 January 2019, 11:33:11 »
Have been reading through all the search facility on aerial connections and am after some clarification if possible?

Mine is a ‘97 mid-facelift CDX with no phone setup.

I currently run an Alpine aftermarket HU but have never had good reception from the radio so i suspect I have a damaged lead behind the dash as this sounds quite common. The roof aerial is good as I swapped it from my Astra Van a few years ago when trying to look into it then.

I have no aerial lead at all on the drivers side a-pillar unlike most. I have a grey coax on the passenger side a-pillar with a push-to-lock connection. Is this simply a different design for the DIN connection as in I will be able to put one of the DIN - ISO connector is its place and run a fresh cable?

Reason is that i am adding an Alpine DAB unit and this has an in and out for standard aerial as well as the DAB, so I was thinking of running from the A-pillar to the unit and then from the unit to the radio, all with new cabling.

General Car Chat / Trade Club
« on: 01 July 2018, 17:44:56 »
Has anybody else any experience of Trade club prices recently?

Been to my local dealer WJ Kings in Welling, Kent and asked for a price on rear pads for my estate under trade club (have a trade club number and account). He came back with £52+vat retail and just under £48+vat on trade club. I am sure they used to be around £20. I asked about the lack of difference and he said that since PSA took them over a lot of discounts have dropped. Sound right with anyone else’s experience recently or do I need to find another dealer?

Omega General Help / Estate Rear Springs
« on: 27 June 2018, 12:13:44 »
Has anybody got some good recommendations for rear road springs for an Estate without self levelling? Mine has broken the pigtail at the bottom with age and speed bumps and the other side is looking very rusty (always change as a pair anyway).

Mine is a 2.0 but according to EPC they are all the same except for self levelling and sports suspension. I used to get Lejfforder (or however it is spelt) but my local factors seem to be struggling with everything. Have found Killen ones but do not know what they are like.

Omega General Help / 2.2 cat
« on: 02 January 2018, 21:00:41 »
I think I am right, but want to run a little confirmation.

Would a 2.2 downpipe/cat fit a 2.0? I know the second lambda hole would need blocking but other than that, it looks doable from images.

General Car Chat / Another year, another MOT
« on: 25 November 2017, 13:04:29 »
Well, another MOT done on the old hearse 😄

All good except that my MOT guy made me get the Book out on him when he tried to get the emissions down to 0.2% instead of the 0.5% it should be on the X20XEV.

Did comment on how clean it is for rust (other than the usual bit on the estate doors by the windows).
