Just checked my post count ??? It took me 5 years to get to 1000 and i'm back to square one now!
It reminds me of the film The Sicilian in which it states "so shall those die who betray guilliano" ;D

Omega General Help / Lumpy idle
« on: 17 October 2012, 20:14:40 »
Following on from tech2 sess. at the oxford meet it threw up a code 19 so changed the crank sensor today (genuine gm from stealer) and drove for 30 minutes and the stuttering that i had whilst driving to the meet at the weekend did not come back.

But she is still a bit lumpy on idle and wondered if anyone had any ideas why? It started to absolutely tip it down so i couldn't get round to cleaning icv, egr and maf? Is there anything else worth looking at?

Also after 30 minutes drive i let her idle for a bit and could hear a tinny ticking coming from the rear / mid exhaust section but not sure (i.e. engine was warm).

Lastly there is a bracket which connects to the bulkhead from the a/c pipe with a 8mm torx screw - i think i have buggered the thread as it no longer holds tight - i dont have a die set and wondered if i can secure this another way?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Gear box seal?
« on: 17 October 2012, 10:41:17 »
When undoing the crank sensor torx bolt next to oil filter housing i noticed that there is a flat sided oval rubber seal that was deteriorating - i think this is the front of the autobox (there is another rubber round seal further down if that helps) - anyway i very gently touched it and it literally disintegrated - the part number on it is now not visible.

Does anyone know what this rubber seal is / part number is and is it that important? i.e. could i drive it still - no signs of leaking from the area for now.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / CDR 2006

I need to disconnect the battery but my steroe display does not work. I have the code but obviously won't be able to see what i'm doing when i try and input the code - the stereo , only the display does not and when i press 2 on radio preset it holds the channel for 10 secs and then cuts out.

Is there any way to bypass inputting the code after battery reconnection so that the stereo will work again?

Omega General Help / Torque Wrench recommendations
« on: 04 October 2012, 14:34:52 »
Looks like i need a torque wrench (for refitting plenum bolts) when i attempt to change my dispack.

I saw Halfords do one for £70 but i would prefer to avoid this much expense what with a nipper on the way! Can anyone suggest cheaper alternatives? (not looking for one that tightens wheels, more so for plenum bolts / possible future cam cover changes etc..).

Omega General Help / Easy check for dispack
« on: 21 August 2012, 17:29:51 »
Is there an easy check for the dispack without removing lots of stuff?

The issue is when i start up for the first time in the day and change from Park to Drive i get a stuttering cough sound (subsequent start ups are fine).

Have put it on ramps and the exhaust seems fine.

I have bought new spark plugs but do not feel confident enough to fit them.

Car is 2.5 Petrol

Thanks

Omega General Help / MOT Passed but there was a sting.......
« on: 01 April 2012, 17:11:04 »
Got another 12 months and she sailed through except for all 4 inside of the tyres were splitting!
There was plenty of tread left on them and one was only bought last year (8k done since). Took it back to place of purchase and its' being sent to manufacturer for analysis but i don't hold out much hope.
They were autoguard sa802 - 235/45/17. It was quite scary to think what could have happened. The rubber on these seemed too hard and i would never get them again.
Any way got hankook ventus v12 evo all round and will see how they go.

Currently parked on the drive which has a slight decline and the front sidewall is bulging very slighty. The rears are fine.
Just wondering if it is better to pump them up higher. They were fitted with 34ppsi. I mostly do town driving with just me in the car.

I've not really looked into this before so it could well be normal.
Anyone got these and can offer advice?

Omega General Help / Erratic idle
« on: 12 December 2011, 19:36:17 »
Had a wierd one today - drove the car 2 miles this morning after it being parked up for the weekend - all ok.

Dropped the little one off at nursery and then when i started the car it was stuttering as if it was going to stall - then whilst driving in slow moving traffic at revs under 1500rpm the stuttering noise continued coupled with a screaching noise plus a sound similar to a rusty pulley going round. Above 1500 rpm there was no problem.

Anyone have any ideas what could have caused this. (I wondered if some water had got onto the aux. belt or some grit?)

I drove the car at lunchtime and this evening and there was no repeat of the stuttering or rusty pulley sound.

Thanks

General Discussion Area / Darn Insurance Renewal
« on: 24 November 2011, 22:33:02 »
Last year paid £348, this year it is £481 (due to getting a SP30) plus an extra £200 on the excess.

To rub salt into the wound my insurer told me it would have been £311 if i hadn't got done for speeding >:(.

I am happy to accept an increase in premium for something that was my fault but i feel the rise is well over a reasonable amount.

Time to shop around methinks!

Omega General Help / Aux Belt Pulley Fitting
« on: 15 November 2011, 22:10:22 »
Just got a new one from the stealers and wondered does it really matter which way round it is fitted?

On one side there is a 2 stamped in between the plastic fins and also 5 dots on the innermost black plastic circle.

On the other side there are no markings on the black plastic but some extra letters/numbers on the innermost metal ring.(I reckon this side should face out)

Thanks

P.S. For anyone who is bored there is a ORS print on there who are i believe are a turkish bearing manufacturer
