Omega General Help / another code needed
« on: 03 August 2008, 20:27:31 »
hi all

(excuse the basicness of this description) i've had the 'engine' shaped light on for ages. yesterday i read about the brake & gas pedals trick - the 'car being abused by a spanner' light flashed 0170.

Does anyone know this code.

Thanks in (hopefull) advance

Omega General Help / an even easier hbv replacement
« on: 26 June 2008, 03:37:36 »
Helloo to all

Got the hbv replaced on saturday  :)  we used the fab replacement thread in the maintenance section - we found that by making sure that the coolant system wasn't under pressure, but retightening the overflow cap so that vacuum would keep the coolant in the system, that we could replace the hbv without draining the coolant, only loosing a smidge - job done in 25 mins !   :y

This is also a big thanks to the site & all that gave advice on hbv after local garage said it was head gasket that would cost £1287.50 + cam belt, when it was really the hbv £27 delivered & gave my mate £15 for ratchet work.

As i'm now over £1200 better off then it must be official - being part of the OOF makes you richer !!!    ;D

Omega General Help / crazy seat design
« on: 16 June 2008, 22:55:26 »
does anyone know if this is a design fault or would my seats have been changed by a previous owner, but when i flatten the back but want to leave the single back seat usable, then i can't move the drivers seat back & down because the flattened back 2/3 catches by 2" ish, which seems a bit nuts?

hi

i'm in north yorks with 2001 2.6 & seem to have a similar problem to other members, which their suggestions have been to check the water pump seal, oil cooler plate, coolant bridge & the thermostat housing - here's my problem & are the same suggestions still appropriate ?

with the radiator overflow cap tight it uses the overflow tank in 10 miles, but when loose i did 200 miles & didn't loose a drop.  my local garage (arrgh) said it was the oil cooler & changed it but that made no difference, still steam under the bonnet but no obvious leak. next he put in rad-weld which stopped the steam, but not the water usage, after that he pressurised it to 2 bar, but again with no visible leak, he didn't have the stuff to put in the rad that shows whether it means head gasket or not but says that coz there's no obvious leak that it must be - should i take his word or insist on the detector stuff?

at all stages i've parked over paper but nothings dripped down.

i'm already at arguement stage as he should have put the detection stuff in before changing the cooler, my local vaux garage has quoted £1287.50 for head gaskets & cam belt - does this all seem right to anyone reading this & can anyone recommend anywhere, or anyone good in north yorkshire to check & hopefully solve, as i'm in a wheelchair & am frustrated coz i can't even see enough of the engine to find a leak myself...

thanks for any help  :)

Omega General Help / external thermostat
« on: 12 May 2008, 15:58:22 »
Following network q identifying a couple of problems, one of which was the external temperature read out flicking from -13 to -5, to telling the correct temp, they said to change the thermostatic sensor behind the radiator, which i did, but it didn't do anything except cost me dosh.  they said to part & reconnect at the other end of the cable roughly somewhere under the windscreen - i'm asking as i'm disabled & can't do it my self - i do have to have a garage do my oil cooler, so while they've got it, does anyone agree that it's the way to go with the thermo ?

thanks   :y

i tried the search, but didn't get anything & i'm sure it's asked often - what's the best way to stop the headlights getting washed every time i wash the windscreen when the lights are on ?  :o

Newbie Welcome Area / newness
« on: 31 October 2007, 16:49:44 »
hello to all,

i've had my "2.6 24v v6 cdx estate auto 2001 converted to gas" for about a year, as with cars, things occasionally go wrong. i took it to a vauxhall garage & it needs new door mirror switch, external temperature sensor & a part for the alarm, they said they'd need it for half a day & it would cost £340!!!  :'(  so i came online to get a haynes manual, but they only seem to go to 1999 - so at the end of a long story, that's how i made it here, searching for knowledge.

i know that when problems start, you have to keep on top of them, i'm certainly not rich & £340 will hurt, but i still get a thrill when i drop a cog & hear that unmistakable v6 roar inside it's belly - maybe the £340 would be better spent on a holiday !

General Car Chat / The fabulous Darth Loo-Knee
« on: 17 February 2011, 03:06:40 »
Just to put out a big thank you to Daz for doing the yearly service on my miggy 2.6 and sorting the low coolant level false reading.

Quickly done with good crack covering every subject imaginable.

Then to cap it all a great price - you know it makes sense   :y

General Discussion Area / Fantastic help & really good value
« on: 08 March 2010, 22:39:20 »
Hi everyone,

We're all always looking for value for money, especially when it comes to people working on our pride and joy.

My miggies engine warning light came on, then after 3 miles it was running absolutely horribly so I had to abandon it in a hotel car park. Unfortunately I don't trust garages much after having bad diagnoses by mechanics that are supposed experts.

I put in a call to Darth Loo-knee who i didn't know, but had been recommended and at his earliest chance(day & a half) he travelled the massive journey (really) to where my car was, taking with him potential pieces to fix it, but if not he was able to tow the car all the way back to his workshop.

After plugging the computer into the car he was able to diagnose the fault, unfortunately the nearest replacement part was about 80 miles away, which he thankfully went and got, keeping me posted all the time about what was happening.

After the part was fitted, the car started perfectly - problem solved.

He even stopped me from spending money on the car by getting unnecessary work done by him as it wasn't needed.

To sum up, Darth Loo-knee  really helped me out when I wasn't sure what I was going to do. He's really approachable & doesn't talk down to you, even with my limited knowledge & had all angles covered. I also couldn't have been happier with the size of the bill after all the effort he put in.

So if you're someone that can't afford vauxhall prices, can't physically do the work yourself, can't find the time to do the work or just don't want to, then my recommendation would be to look no further.

Martin

P.s. I may be guffing on, but all this has just happened today & my Miggy has come back to life  :y
