General Car Chat / Fresh MOT on the Omega today
« on: 02 September 2020, 19:51:32 »
Done a bit of work this year ,   new wishbones , drop links and  front ARB  bushes . Probably didn't need that done  . . .but all good for the foreseeable future now.

Sailed through with NO advisories again   :) :)  Had to change my tester as the one I have used for 30 odd years has sold up and  new owners of the business don't do MOT's  :o :o :o

New place near to me  . . .owner/tester commented on how well looked after the "old girl " is  :-[ :-[ :-[

Only done 1300 miles in it this year  . . .Covid put paid to our spring and summer weekend jolly ups away.

Oh . . . .and no mention of any issue with the N/S rear wheel bearing I was posting about a while ago  ;) ;) ;) ;)

Omega General Help / Front wheel bearing /hub change. Question
« on: 30 August 2020, 07:29:55 »
hi All      doing a front hub change this morning .  From what I can see, the guide in the maintenance section does not seem to show the actual removal of the old hub after removing necessary brake parts etc. , only "driving" the new one on .  Question is  . . .is a puller required for this , or will it just "tap" off from behind ?  TIA    Al  :y

Omega General Help / Strongflex poly bushes ?
« on: 23 August 2020, 10:56:33 »
Hi All
decided to spend a bit of cash on the omega and keep it for a while at least.

Question for you guys  is,   I am probably going down the Poly bush route for the wishbones and ARB bushes.
I have found this company ( Strongflex)  whose prices seem much cheaper than Powerflex.

Also Powerflex only seem to list one of the 2 bushes for the wishbone along with ARB bushes , where as Strongflex list BOTH the wishbone bushes and the ARB bushes .

As I read it  £66  for the lot . ..  .  am I right here and has anybody used these

https://strongflexuk.com/product-category/opel-vauxhall/

By the "Lot " I mean 2 pairs of front wishbone bushes and a pair of anti roll bar bushes  ;)

Omega General Help / Rear wheel bearing noise?
« on: 12 July 2020, 14:11:33 »
Hi all
just compiling a list of to do jobs on the 2.6 CDX estate.  I get a low level whine from the N/S rear wheel area when taking left handers . Was thinking wheel bearing , but had bruv around this morning and there is no play at all in either rear wheel bearing.

Suggestions from Bruv are diff whine  or possibly noise from an uneven worn tyre on side . Although tyres look good .

any ideas  ??  :y

General Car Chat / Fake DVLA notices via e mail
« on: 23 April 2020, 14:53:54 »
I have had an e- mail notice from "DVLA"  ::)  stating my car is not taxed  :-\ and I will be fined £80

Only have the one car  . . .the omega which has been on SORN since 19.3.20.

DVLA site shows this as sorned .  Tried to contact DVLA but it seems unless you are a Key worker you cannot call or e mail or even contact them at all  .

Omega shows as SORN     Swmbo's 2 cars are shown as taxed , so just gonna ignore it .

Any thoughts  or advice guys  ?

General Car Chat / quality of other car forums guides
« on: 28 March 2020, 09:28:16 »
Hi all
just a thumbs up to all the Oofers who over the years have added to the "How To" in the maintenance guides on here.
I have been searching other forums, mainly Ford and mainly Fiesta, as a few jobs need to be done on this 2008 Mk6 version I have aquired.
Sadly the quantity , quality and detail of what I have been able to find, which is not much , is very very poor compared to what I am used to on here with our maintenance section . :'( :'( :'(

I am trying to find how to remove and replace the drivers door " central locking pack"  seems it almost a complete door strip down from the inside , outer door card , inner door card , glass out, window mecanism out  .  . + more  :o :o :o :o

Gonna take the old door into the house as I have no garage, and take it apart first as a trial to see whats involved  . . .
looks complicated ( for me anyway   ::) ::)  )from the only video I can find though .

Again thanks to you guys who have posted up our OOf guides  . . .real quality in comparison.

Regards Al   :y :y

General Car Chat / Mk6 Fiesta 08 plate. Central locking issue
« on: 23 March 2020, 19:04:34 »
Hi All
looking for a bit of help / advice here. Mk 6 fiesta  . . .  changed drivers door due to minor accident damage. Complete door as it came off with door card , mirror etc.  All ok except drivers door does not lock on the remote.  other 3 doors all lock . If i sit in drivers seat and push door opening  lever inwards  . .all 4 doors lock .   Is it the case i have to fit the cental lock gubbings from my original door or something more sinister.  Also dont have the key for this new door , so was planning to swap key barrels anyway  (if thats feasable)
Any advice greaatly appriciated  . . .TIA   Al  :y

General Car Chat / Gearbox issue HELP | i10 sticks in 3rd gear . .
« on: 28 December 2019, 14:14:38 »
Any advice gents  . . . hyundai i10 2011.   SWMBO  had to put on brakes sharply. .  .since then car gets to 3rd gear and shifter will not come out of 3rd to select another gear .
On the driveway all gears are selectable with or without engine running.
Pull away  . . .go through 1st & 2nd then straight to 4th  .  .all ok  . .then to 5th all OK.
As soon as 3rd is selected with the car moving it will not come out of 3rd. Even stopping and turning engine off it is still jammed.   Once in this jammed position the only way to get it to release is to slightly rock the car forwards or backwards , just a tad then gear shift moves out of 3rd  ok.
Gearbox oil is correct &  to the right level .
I feel it is not a linkage issue as all gears are easy to find when stationary ,The problem happens as soon as 3rd is selected with the car moving . the selection of 3rd when moving feels ok and smooth & no different to selecting other gears .

Strange this  . . .  any gearbox specialists out there to advise or suggest  as cannot see anything on any iternet forums etc. pointing to thuis issue..  thanks,   Al :y

General Car Chat / Another MOT pass on the CDX
« on: 31 August 2019, 13:38:33 »
Took the Y reg. CDX estate for its annual check up this morning.  Same garage as usual but a new tester .Delighted when he commented that "This car is amazing for its age". He also commented that even the emissions test was really good & that he could tell that it has been well  looked after  ::) :-[.  So a pass with no advisories this time  . . .so happy days & good for another year .  Looking like the best £300 I've ever spent 3 years ago when I got it ;D ;D ;D

But does make  you wonder about the advisory thing  . .. when some testers just HAVE to put something on for the bloody hell of it  . . .others are quite happy to leave none. ::) ::) ::)

General Car Chat / Clicking injectors . .Hyundai i10 2011
« on: 19 August 2019, 18:48:17 »
Thoughts on this one please gents . . .swmbos 2011 i10   while the lump is not noisy  . . its got this irritating clicking noise .  Had the old "listening stick" out as initially thought it was noisy hydraulic tappets . . . . but no  the noise , as proved by the listening stick is 100% coming from each injector. Move the listening device each side of the injectors onto the head & there is just the usual wirring of the cams etc going on .

So are  injectors usually this noisy?  . . .are they fubared ?. . .or is it just this tin pot car ?
seems a common issue on these  . .so forums say . Forum answer is "Just live with it "
any help advice greatfully received   :y :y :y
