Newbie Welcome Area / Hi guys, Yet another new Jock!
« on: 30 August 2006, 23:23:31 »
Hi guys, just bought my first Omega today and thought I'd say hi  :)
I'm located in Fife, Scotland and as my car currently has the engine in the boot, I'll be after some advice very soon! I'll post that up seperate though! The rest of my fleet consists of a 1967 Singer Chamois Coupe, a BS Nymph (very rare Imp based kit car, a VW Scirocco Storm and a Kawasaki GPZ 900R so I guess I'm a true petrol head.  ::)

General Discussion Area / Yet another ebay fraud!!

Hi folks, just thought I'd warn you about an ebay scam that I havent seen before. I received the following message through ebay messages today

This message was sent while the listing was active.

Hello,
My name is Lucy Avian.
I am interested in your item. The problem is that I am a very confused as I've seen another item very similar to yours.
Please, have a look:
hxxp://3422784404/?motors.listings.ebay.com/Cars-Trucks_W0QQa10239ZQ2d24QQa10244ZQ2d24QQa38v1yZQQa38v2yZQQa39ZQ2d24QQa39705ZQ2d24QQa

I pasted the link into my browser and it took me to an ebay sign in page. I stupidly signed in, not suspecting anything amiss as the message came via ebay. It didn't take me to the page I was expecting and it was then I realised that it was a scam.  >:( I changed my password immediately and have notified ebay. Since then, I've had another two identical messages from other users!!

Just thought I'd warn everyone in case you are selling something and get the same.

Cheers Jim

« on: 04 January 2007, 15:03:24 »
I now have a big space in the driveway where my GLS estate used to sit  :-/ The Classified ad on eBay resulted in a chap from Yorkshire coming up today and taking it away  ;D I've given him the forum address so hopefully we'll see him on here sometime soon.

I'd just like to say a huge thanks to everyone who has given me advice during my spell as an Omega owner, I'm really glad I found this site as the help and friendliness of everyone here has been second to none  :y
I'm planning to stick around as I do enjoy this forum, will I'll buy another Omega...............not sure on that one yet  ;)

looking forward to catching up with the Omega Jocks in Callender at the end of the month  :)

General Discussion Area / Confused on Ebay!!
« on: 30 December 2006, 11:57:58 »
I've currently got the GLS on ebay as a classified ad, not an auction. The thing that's confusing me is that I've got 22 watchers   :-?  What's the point in watching a classified ad? There's no bidding so you can't tell what it sells for. I'm hoping that the watchers are going to bombard me with questions after the new year  ;D Had some interest already so here's hoping  ;)

General Discussion Area / Virus Warning!!!
« on: 14 November 2006, 22:24:57 »
hi all, just saw this on my Motorbike forum and thought it was worth passing on.

Be alert during the next few days: Don't open any message with an
> attached file called "Invitation", regardless of who sent it. It's a
> virus that opens an Olympic Torch that "burns" the whole hard disk of
> your computer. This virus will come from someone who has your e-mail
> address; that's why you should send this e-mail to all your contacts.
> It's better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus
>
> This is the worst virus announced by CNN, it's been classified by
> Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. The virus was discovered
> by McAfee yesterday, and there's no repair yet for this particular
> virus. It simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disk, where vital
> information is kept.
>
> Also:- Emails with pictures of Osama Bin-Laden hanged are being sent and
> the moment you open these emails your computer will crash and you will
> not be able to fix it! This e-mail is being distributed through
> countries around the globe, but mainly in the US and Israel. Don't be
> inconsiderate; send this warning to whomever you know. If you get an
> email along the lines of "Osama Bin Laden Captured" or "Osama Hanged"
> don't open the attachment.

General Discussion Area / Thermostat change on 2ltr Ecotech
« on: 08 November 2006, 17:45:52 »
Hi folks, I've just changed the 'stat on my car as it was running a bit on the cool side. Haven't road tested it yet so I'm not sure if it has helped or not! The point of the post is this. The Haynes book says that the 'stat is integral with the alloy housing and needs to be changed as a unit. Quinton Hazel do a replacement thermostat without the housing at a fraction of the cost and it's a doddle to fit. You just press the stat into the housing with a cardboard tube supplied in the new kit, turn it slightly and out it comes  :) The new one goes in just as easily.
I'm not sure if it's the same set up on the bigger engines but worth checking anyway.

General Discussion Area / Thought I'd share my handy work!
« on: 04 November 2006, 16:43:30 »
Hi guys, I've been busy sorting out the dent on the back of the GLS estate this week. It looked like someone had taken a hammer to it as there were several "dings" in the same area  :-/ As those who saw it at the Jockular meet, it was a bit unsightly! Here's how I fixed it!

first pic is the damaged area partially cleaned back to the sound metal around it. next,

I cleaned out the dents with my twist knot wire brush in the grinder and grit blast gun to get rid of a small amount of rust in the dent.

Next, I filled the dents and smoothed back to the surrounding good metal.

High build filler primer was applied over the repaired sections to bring up to level of original paint before applying a couple of coats of primer over the entire panel.

This was then rubbed back until nice and smooth.

Final job was to apply the base coat metalic followed by laquer. I usually get this right first time but I made the mistake of trying out my new spray gun. result; more orange peel than Jaffa and more runs than the London marathon  :'( Still, not a problem, I just put plenty of laquer on then rubbed back to a smooth surface with 1500 grit wet paper before buffing back up with G3 and G10 cutting paste.

I'm pleased with the end result, good colour match too and probably added a couple of hundred quid to the value of the car  ;D I even treated the rest of the car to a good polish today. I'll post some pics of that in the Gallery.

General Discussion Area / Have I got the thirstiest 2ltr Omega?
« on: 31 October 2006, 10:02:22 »
At the moment, the fuel economy on my 2ltr auto is pants  >:( It's been averaging 22mpg on LPG for a mixture of town and motorway runs! On the trip to Birmingham, the best it got was 26mpg!! I've booked it in for an lpg system service as I don't know when it was last done and the specialist reckons it could be a faulty diaphram. Hopefully things will improve after next Monday or I'll buy something more economical..... like a 4 ltr Jaguar  ;D

On the plus side, the Omega drove beautifully on the 750 mile day trip to the NEC, very comfy, quiet and plenty room for all the goodies we bought at the Classic car show there  ;)

General Discussion Area / Usefull Insurance site
« on: 29 October 2006, 23:54:46 »
Hi guys, I was told about this insurance site www.dayinsure.com and thought It a great idea. It does exactly what it says, you can insure a car for one day and it costs £10.50! Sounds ideal if your buying something and don't want to risk the journey home. you can also use it to insure addition drivers etc, well worth a look.

General Discussion Area / Photo Hosting - which one??
« on: 24 October 2006, 17:38:36 »
Hi guys,
just wondered which photo hosting sites are the most popular on here? I've been using photobucket but I'm not too keen on the fact that the link gives access to all your pictures. Any suggestions for easy to use ones that only allow the chosen pics to be viewed?

General Discussion Area / Classic Cars
« on: 24 October 2006, 17:26:56 »
I'm off to Birmingham NEC in the Omega this weekend to the Classic car show. Just wondered what other classic cars are owned by group members?
I've got a '67 Chamois Coupe, an Imp based kit called a BS Nymph based around a '63 Imp and my '84 Scirocco Storm that I'm trying to sell  :(
I'll bung something up about the Imps soon.

Cheers Jim
