Omega General Help / Tyre wear
« on: 09 October 2008, 21:15:21 »
Front tyres are nearly finished.

It is now clear though that the passenger side has worn primarily on the outer shoulder and the drivers one on the inside shoulder.

This would account for my pull to the left, but the question is,  is it a sign that last years wishbones are duff of simply a tracking issue?

Omega General Help / Wiper motor
« on: 17 April 2008, 20:12:47 »
I'm not sue why but tonight my wiper blades stopped mid sweep, stuttered, and stopped again half way up my windscreen.

I switched them off and left them for a while and now they work fine  :-?

Well almost - now they are left at the 11o'clock position when at rest.  How do I get them to seat normally?

Is it a force jobby or take of the arms and reseat them? and if so - how?

Omega General Help / EGR - Purple Smoke
« on: 20 October 2007, 19:09:29 »
What are the symptoms of a sticking EGR? ( Purple smoke was just to get you to read the post btw)

Why so I ask?

Well for some time now my car has run with imperceptible fluctuations in the running or the engine, especially when cold and especially downhill when the car is not under load.

It was thought the coil pack was on it's way out but this week it has actually "missed" whilst driving along around 30 on a straight, level road.  This is the 2nd time in two weeks.

It's never missed when I put my foot down and it's not stalling at all anywhere.  So given that it happens when it's often slowing slightly I wondered if the EGR could be a factor?

Questions and suggestions welcome  8-)

Omega General Help / Poorly M Reg
« on: 31 July 2007, 21:02:47 »
A friend of mine has an M Reg 2.0 CD that keeps draining batteries.

He has fitted a new one but it's dead already.

He thinks it's a faulty alternator but any other places to look first :-?

Omega General Help / Tyre wear/wishbones
« on: 16 July 2007, 22:49:00 »
I had my wishbones replaced 2/3 months ago now and when washing the car tonight noticed wear on the outside shoulders of the tyres.

Passenger front is the worst, drivers not so bad and passenger rear also a little worn.  Tyres have done 10k or so and 4 way tracking adjusted after the bones were done.

Pic's a bit fuzzy due to flash :-[

Is this a sign the wishbones are not up to scratch? or just normal wear and tear?

Omega General Help / Not quite right
« on: 25 April 2007, 21:18:44 »
My 2.2 doesn't feel right :(

Starts first time, smooth idle at 700rpm, but when I pull away it hesitates just for a second and then picks up fine.  When the engine is cold and its coasting at 25mph downhill it misses and feels like its running out of petrol but never to the point where it will cut out.

Timing belt and water pump changed 5k ago.  New spark plugs and air filter 9m ago.  New fuel filter 3m ago.  Breathers clean as a whistle, throttle body nice and shiny and 3in1 added to butterfly last week.  Vx semi synth oil & filter 4m old and still clean.  MAF replaced 4m ago (ebay).

Fuel consumption not as good as other 2.2's on here averaging 31mpg on cruise at 75 mph.  And finally its been treated to Shell Optimax for the past 3 months too.

Any thoughts as to the unusual running?

Omega General Help / Odd running from cold
« on: 06 April 2007, 18:44:28 »
Car fires up fine, idle is smooth and no hesitation at junctions.  But when cold the first mile or two is downhill and when I ease of the gas it seems to run as if its running out of fuel.  Not quite a hiccup, but just plain odd.  Something else odd too 26.5 MPG ave over 75 miles of urban traffic - car hasn't been over 40 for a week. (usually 22/23)

I couldn't decide if it was the suspension at first, but it defo seems fuel related.  The tank has £50 of V power in and when the initial 2/3 mins is up it runs sweet.  If I knock it into neutral it's ok too.

So what's up?
