General Car Chat / Hello old friends
« on: 05 July 2009, 22:24:40 »
Hey guys, some of the older members on here might remember me, i used to own an Omega till couple of years ago. Now i have bought another one(Christian's MV6) that i'm going to bring up to scratch and sell it to my dad.
Drove the car back to darlington on Friday and it was a beautifull drive car behaved faultlessly apart from the steering feeling a bit unprecise(maybe i'm spoiled from the steering of the GTA). There is not much work needed but i have decided to do the following just to bring it up to 100% perfect condition. So here is the list of things to be done before the end of August:
Change oil and all filters
Change Gearbox oil and gearbox filter
Change Diff oil
Change coolant and brakefluid
Change Shock Absorbers
Change 2 tyres
Carry out full suspension geometry check
Fix cigarette burn in the drivers seat
Recharge the air con
Few cosmetic details.

Question though, where can i buy the gearbox filter from?

Thanks!

General Discussion Area / Where can i find a good engine??
« on: 08 May 2008, 23:31:22 »
Hi everyone, long time no see.
I need to find a good complete engine X25XE(maybe X30XE) with relatively low milleage and post 1998. Can you point me to the right direction and keep and eye open for me?
Also what will happen if i run a 3lt engine on standard 2.5lt management? How different are the maps?
Thanks and regards

General Discussion Area / Advice please!
« on: 06 July 2007, 17:23:18 »
Hi everyone,
few weeks ago i noticed some bubbling on the offside front wing of my car. I then decided to get it sorted at my trusted bodyshop and not mess about asking warranty claims from Alfa romeo. The guys took the front wing off and found out that the car has been in an accident before. I contacted the previous owner and he confirmed and he also told me that the Reg Vardy were informed about it.
Now here is the question, i bought the car with a full clear HPI Gold check report that never mentions any accidents. Where do i stand in terms of my rights? what should i do? I will be paying 450pounds for the wing to be replaced >:(.
Any Advice is wellcome.
Regards
KOstas

General Discussion Area / Omega reliability
« on: 17 May 2007, 12:46:20 »
I thought i will share with you the following story.
My first omega GLS 2.5v6 Nreg currently owned by my dad has successfully completed 140k miles.
I bought this car in 2002 with misfire for 600quid it had back then 79k miles and no cambelt history.
The only faults it got since was a knock sensor failed and a cam pulley that came loose and caused a belt failure.
Other than that and 60k of hard use later it is still going strong(although burning about 0.8liter/1000miles of oil ).
Oil cooler is the standard/crank sensor is standard i'm truly amazed from its reliability. Not to mention the freezing cold A/C that was never ever serviced.

General Discussion Area / Tuning a gutless car
« on: 21 April 2007, 21:07:26 »
I spent the afternoon messing about with the ignition timing of my runaround golf3 after cleaning the rotor and the dizzy cap. It goes like the clappers now. I'm waiting for my sparkplugs to arrive and then i will modify the airbox lol.

Right guys,
i think you might be able to answer my question.
Why is Tanned skin play so important role for the majority of the british women? I have noticed this and i cannot explain it. Any thoughts?

General Discussion Area / on the 22nd of march

The film 300 is coming out. i'm excited as i have read the comic that Franc Miller made and i can say that it is the first time something is so close to the actual history, no more rubish like Troy and alexander the great movies where the dirctor twisted the hell out of the story.  Good opportunity to remind to the world and to ourselves that Greece is not only a holiday destination with laidback people.
I have great respect for the scotish actor that trained so hard for the movie that he looked identical to Leonidas's statue.

Yes,
i'm thinking to build a single or 2 seater road legal racing car from scratch. I have worked in the formula student project as a student and i thing that it would be fun and a good learning experience building a car. I read on the practical performance magazine that there is a haynes manual out on how to build your kit car for under a grand so i might consider it. If i do it i'm thinking to use a motorbike engine and transmission for a lightweight mid engined setup or if i go heavier i would use an omega as a donor car which is much better than sierra's etc.

General Discussion Area / Why people do that???
« on: 09 March 2007, 14:45:58 »
I think that my advert is clear enough and yet someone Pm'd me to ask me if i still have them and to give him a ring on his mobile. So i did waste my valuable time for some smart guy only to tell me that my cams are overpriced. He knew what the price was if he read my add.
I do not appreciate smartass people doing that.

Is RUST. So what does everybody think of rustproofing centers and rustproofing in general?
i'm sure some of you might have some experience on this subject. Is it worth doing? I was thinking to rustproof my ALFA(please no jokes about ITALIANS and rust ;D) but one of the rust proofing centers i had a chat with and after i asked them how they dry the car after they wash it underneith, they told me that the Waxoyl thingy doesn#t need a completely dry surface when you apply it. This made me worry a bit as i alwaysknew that you don't wantto trap moisture on metal surfaces. What are your views and opinions?
Thanks in advance
Kostas

General Discussion Area / Investigations...
« on: 25 February 2007, 12:07:19 »
Investigations, checks and reports seem to be tha favourite of the authorities when it comes to a terrifying accident like the derailed virgin train one. Not a single word i heard mentioning the replacement of the crappy ancient rail lines which these nice trains run on. Why do they still cut corners who is the stupid engineer that signs off  the lines after they are checked, did they not teach him about metal fatigue? And now the ultimate question, should i pay 210£ to go from Darlington to london? or maybe Drive instead for 80£? And another one, where do all the tax money go that we cannot have a decent rail service?

General Discussion Area / REG VARDY= honesty, honour, good deals
« on: 15 February 2007, 22:26:54 »
Well i'm sure you will love this story
As some of you might know i bought an alfa romeo from REG VARDY.
the car had 33k on it with full service history with them as they used to be until last week an ALFA ROMEO dealership and an approved GTA center. The service book had 3 stamps, at 9k-19k-33k.
I also requested a print out with the specific work that was carried out, they then gave me a printout without any detailed work but it was just the history of the car where i could se the same service at 9k 19k but the last service was at 28K and preperation work at 33K. The same day that i discovered that the trip computer said"29days till your next service".
So i call them:

Hi, i'm kostas k o S t a S that i bought the GTA last week from you.

Hi Mr Kostas how can i help?

Well there is a discerpancy on my service records the book says that the last service was done at 33k while the printout says that it was serviced at 28K which is missing from the book. Also the service indicator has come on. I would like to know what is going on? ahs the car been serviced at all?
It is obviously a mistake mr Kostof someone has forgot to stamp the book but i can ensure you that your ars has had a full service before we sold it to you.

So someone forot to stamp the book but why also someone forgot to reset the service indicator(at that point i'm getting really upset and loud on the phone)?

I don't see the issue mr Kostof you can bring your car in and we will reset the service indicator and stamp the book.

Yes but you are not an ALFA ROMEO dealer any more?

We still have the same trained and skilled technicians?

are these the same technicians that forgot to reset the ECU after a full service? No thank you very much
END.

And today morning i receive a letter from them saying, Your car service is overdue, please call us to arange a mutual agreement otherwise the warranty will be void.
WHat a scam is that? who allows them to be in business? How can i do to expse them to the rest of the UK?
At the moment i have aranged a mutual agreement with myself to visit them on Saturday when their showroom is full of people when everyone can hear what is going on.
OF COURSE i have already given the car a full service as i don't trust anyone but myself only.
These people think that because i have a greek accent i'm stupid.

General Discussion Area / Yes!! MOT done!
« on: 02 February 2007, 18:40:29 »
The Mk3 golf i bought from my manager for 250£ just passed its mot after the mechanic fixed the bonnet catch wire brushed some suspension components and change the front off side indicating bulb.
It is truly impressive for a car with no service history that has been immobilised for 18 months to pass its MOT. The only money i spend on it was 3 quid to buy a can of WD40 3.50£ for 10 minutes jetwash in morrissons, some redex i had leftover and an italian tuneup.
I'm really glad. :)
