Newbie Welcome Area / Hello from a CDX Estate owner
« on: 12 August 2009, 21:33:22 »
Hi all. I have just got a 1999 CDX Estate with leather. It had a seized engine but it was supplied with a 50k spare engine that 'just' needed fitting. I've changed the cambelt, tensioners and water pump. I've also fitted a new DIS module, egr, maf and cat. The engine is in but I need to refit the gearbox. I'm looking forward to driving it.

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / LPG Kit wanted
« on: 30 January 2010, 21:47:46 »
Anyone breaking a 2.5 with LPG? I missed out on one for £200 so I guess that's what I'm looking to spend.

18
I have both as my car originally had sat nav main unit that was pinched. Anyhow, my screen and controller were left in place and the unit I bought came with a spare set. £10 each delivered or £15 the pair

A friend of mine is looking for a Miggy estate. His budget is around the £800 mark (Though ideally, less) It doesn't need to be mint (At that money, it won't be) Ideally, he wants a manual four banger but I think a 2.5 might not be out of the question, nor would a diesel. He needs something that he can just chuck stuff in the boot with and go. The only stipulation, other than being manual is that it needs to have a long MOT. Like me, he's in Northants. What have you got?

Cars for Sale & wanted / 1999 cdx estate manual for sale
« on: 15 November 2009, 17:29:54 »
Readvertised:
In Champagne metallic, full leather, loads of history, now fitted with sat nav. Has electric sunroof as well. Fitted with twin plug towbar. Also comes with Vauxhall roof bars and rear cargo net. All electrics work bar the heated drivers seat. I also have both original keys and the keycard. It has had hundreds just spent:
New engine 3k ago
New cambelt fitted
New cambelt tensioner
New water pump
New DIS
New EGR
New leads
New plugs
New auxilliary belt
New auxilliary belt tensioner
New battery
2x new front tyres
New ac condensor (Will need recharging)
New central locking servo
The car is in very good condition, no rust in the rear arches, very few spots on doors. Much less than most. It has tax until Jan 2010 and Mot until August 2010

I am looking for £1200. I think this represents a good buy considering all that it comes with and the work that has been done. I'm convinced there's not many in this condition. PM me and I will send you my contact details.

Cars for Sale & wanted / Toying with selling 1999 2.5 man CDX est
« on: 24 September 2009, 20:54:44 »
I'm undecided as of yet but I think its a distinct possibility as I'm just not liking it very much (The economy anyhow). It depends what people would be prepared to pay. It's a 1999 CDX 2.5 manual estate in the (apparently) desireable z489 colour. It has full leather, cruise etc. The mileage is 145k but don't let that put you off because I've just shoe horned in a 51k replacement (warranted mileage) whilst I was at it, I replaced the DIS module, EGR,cambelt and waterpump. It has also had a new AC condensor, two new front tyres, alloys refurbished. Obviously,I replaced the plugs, oil, air and pollen filters whilst I was at it.

The car has also had new rear pads, front discs and pads and front bearings. I have also had it four wheel aligned. It has 11 months MOT and 5 months tax.

Bodily its in good nick. There is light scabbing on the usual places on the doors but nothing serious. (Much better than most I see on here.) The arches are good, underneath its very good. I have a spare door and bumper to go with it.

Entertainment wise it has a 7" cinema surround sound LCD telly, digital TV, Reversing camera. You can bluetooth tunes from your phone to it and it has SAT NAV capability. I also have the Carin Sat Nav too.

It doesn't leak any oil but there are a few bits (as you'd expect)
The diff is a little weepy.I was going to replace the seals but I've topped it up and its not grumbly so I'll leave it for now.
The driver's door check strap has broken.I have it and I understand that you can buy a kit for this.

Other than that, its all good. I'll post some pics shortly.
I am in Wellingborough, near Northampton

Must be both of the above. preferably high spec. Reg not too important but ideally mini facelift or facelift. I don't want stratospheric mileage, service history a must. Long t&t preferred. Budget is around £2000. Can be a saloon or estate.

General Car Chat / Wish me luck.
« on: 28 February 2010, 22:21:33 »
The Vectra failed its MOT last week on number plate bulb, Emisions too high on fast idle, Lambda reading too high on second pass, major exhaust leak from the backbox, nearside handbrake little or no function, hand brake lever having no extra travel.

She's been sitting for a long time at the back of a dealership so I was expecting the worst. The exhaust system is actually very new but where its sat, the joints had gone around the backbox and on the centre pipe. The tester reckoned this may well be causing the high o2 reading as exhaust leaks can apparently do this so for the sake of 80 quid, it now has a full catback system. When I took the old exhaust off,I found that there was no doughnut in the middle at all. (There is a metal fibre one that's supposed to be in there to allow for flex)  I have also serviced it, replaced the plugs and I took it for a long blat up the A45 with super octane petrol in and in 3rd and fourth gear to get the lambda red hot and burn off any crap.

I pulled off the rear discs (same as the Omega) and sure enough, there was no friction material left and a big groove worn into them, so for £50, I replaced the lot. I've now tightened up the cable so that I've only got two clicks to lock. You can only test so far but set the handbrake with the wheels on the ground and then jacked up and can't move them. It also handbrake turns nicely now.

I have also replaced the bulb, so here's hoping... :-X

General Car Chat / And I thought Omegas weren't valuable!

As much as we love them, Miggys don't really sell for much but Vectras seem to be the illegitimate spawn of Satan. I've bought one in the interim, not bad nick, a few little jobs needing doing. £230 for the car, no rust in pretty good nick. I've probably spent £150 doing bits on it like a couple of tyres and MOT. It drives really well, to the point I might even keep it. I can't believe that people get rid of cars like this, just because they are are not desireable. How can scrapping a perfectly good working car for a new one be any good for the environment?

General Car Chat / Goodbye but not farewell.
« on: 17 February 2010, 19:41:36 »
Well, the Miggy went today with it's new owner. He kept asking me, "Are you SURE you want to sell this?" I hope it gives him many miles of trouble free motoring. I move now to my friend's Fiat Punto Sporting mk2. Its got 45k on it with fsh and he's the only owner. It'll be a change for me but it's perfect for the short distances that I will be doing.

I would like to say a big thank you to all of those who helped me on here, particularly The Boy who patiently advised me to change the starter motor in the summer when I couldn't get it going. This forum is an amazing place and I have really enjoyed being a part of it and I hope that some of the advice that I have given on here has been helpful. I don't intend to leave, as I do like to chew the fat every once in a while but I may not be as frequent a visitor.

General Car Chat / Best car for £1000?

I don't reckon you can get any other car with the spec, quality and sheer brilliance of the Omega for this money. Prove me wrong! :)

General Car Chat / Its a funny old world.
« on: 23 January 2010, 21:24:10 »
I'm still umming and ahhing about selling the miggy so I've been thinking about the things I like/ don't like about it. One of the worst is the poxy wooden trims. I remembered that Folia Tec did a heat based film that can be used to cover trim so I looked on the bay and sure enough, someone was selling some locally. I bid and won and then emailed to askif I collect. She phoned me and during our chat, she told me that they had bought it to cover the fake wood trim on their Omega Estate! I bowled over there and sure enough, they had one of the nicest 02 plate estates in silver I have ever seen. Its a 2.6 and has only done 45k since new! Her husband is disabled and the Miggy is oneof the few cars he can get in and out of. I asked her to keep in touch as I said I knew a few dodgy old blokes on an iffy website that would more than likely be willing to help out if any problems came up with her car.  :y

General Car Chat / I hate my Omega!
« on: 06 January 2010, 21:06:08 »
...because I want a new car and I just can't bring myself to sell it!. I'm travelling less than 15 miles a day and she's barely stretched her legs before I'm at work. I just need a little run about, I know that, something like my wife's Punto speedgear (She does even less miles than me) but I get in the Miggy and...

Trouble is, I've done so much to her (See,I'm calling the bloody thing her!) in the last 6 months that even CruisetoPoland would be proud:
New engine (55k)
New cambelt, tensioner, water pump, auxilliary belt, belt tensioner
New battery,
4 new tyres
New rear pads,
New AC condensor,
Rear arches professionally repaired
2 new front wheel bearings,
4x new tyres,
2 new wishbones
2 drop links
Steering arm idler
Tracking done,
New DIS
New EGR
New plugs
New TPS
New HBV
Towbar fitted
Genuine Vaux roof bars
Sat nav fitted

Its got full leather, leccy sunroof, cruise, dual zone. Ignoring all the labout, she stands me at about £700 now including tax and the purchase price. When I get in her, I feel a sense of achievement and she's smooth and powerful.

The ABS ECU has now started giving me jip and I still need to sort out the Diff seals. I just can't decide what to do. I do know I'd be sad to see her go if I do sell.
