Hi guys, my Mega has just recently started to drift to the left of the road when I let go of the wheel, but when I brake it pulls quite violently to the left and feels as though the rear is pitching across to the right?!

I had the tracking done about 2500 miles ago and have 4 good tyres all round. Steering idler and wishbones have been done. Had new discs and pads last year about 5000 miles ago. Has always driven and braked nice and straight in the past.

I'm thinking the tracking has slipped out and is steering the car left, but would it pull that violently under medium braking? or is there a problem in the brakes too?  :-/

Any help would be great  :y

Hi guys, just started to tackle both my Air-Con and Aux belts as they are both dead.

Took off the "TURBO DIESEL" part at the front and noticed oil inside of this.. hmmm. Then removed the pipe from intercooler to said piece to find this:

Then I removed the pipe from airfilter to turbo to find this: (yes i did wipe my finger first)

Finally I took the bit off the end of the manifold and it was caked inside with crusty deposits and lots of oil:

Now I am trying to work out where this is coming from, as far as I know there are 2 options:

a) The turbo oil feed is leaking into intake?

b) The camcase is pressurising and putting the oil in from top of engine, direct into boost pipe?

Any ideas??

Omega General Help / 2.5 TD Oil & Filter recommendations, Thanks!
« on: 26 February 2008, 23:16:54 »
Hiya guys, just a couple of questions about parts really..

I have changed the oil 4 or 5 times since having the meega (every 3 to 3.5k) and it gets a bit expensive buying 5l bottle at a time. I have heard some one mention bulk deals from Vx - does any one have any info? Does it cover the oil for a TD?

Also, I have taken this info from the excellent guide in how-to (that i first used many moons ago - thanks!) and wondered if it was upto date and the correct Part No. still?

2.5TD (filter element) from ENG no 34408417 - 93180093 £7.60 + Vat retail

I do have an ABS trade card (arrived yesterday) - would anyone know the trade price? (if available)

I have bought a Unipart one today for £12, then I saw the above price... >:(

Many thanks for any help

Hello guys, last year I had an engine mounting problem which dropped my engine by about an inch meaning that the front pulley rubbed on the anti-roll bar, causing it to wear out nice and quickly. This along with all the little cracks in it means a new one is on the horizon before it shreds itself all over the motorway. There is also a whining/whirring noise coming from one of the ancillaries and I thought it would be as good a time as ever to check these all for a bearing that may be letting go.

Has anyone done this belt change before? Anything in particular to look out for? It does look pretty tight access wise, but should be able to work around that ok.

I haven't phoned Vx for the belt price yet, as I though I would ask if anyone here knows the part number?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Platty

Omega General Help / Climate Noise - driving me crazy!
« on: 23 November 2007, 16:27:24 »
Hiya guys, I have an intermittent noise coming from my climate control - having just pulled it apart to sort another problem (illumination) I thought I would find the problem. Turns out it is the little fan that sits inside the climate panel, mounted to the PCB (see pic) that is making a buzzing sound when it rotates

Is this just to circulate air through the sensor in front of it for climate feedback? What will happen if I take it out and leave it out??

Is this a cheap part to buy, or shall i just look for a second hand climate panel?

Any help would be much appreciated as I don't fancy no heating and I don't wasn't that noise any more!

Good afternoon peeps,

Just had the dreaded phone call from my local (cheap) MOT man. Car has failed  :(

Excessive corrosion of front to rear brake line - Is this a big job to do? just a case of getting some copper pipe and flaring? 1 single pipe all the way?

Excessive corrosion O/S brake line t-Piece (?) - I would have thought the t-piece would go on the above pipe and divide the lines to the N/S and O/S ??

Low light output O/S headlight - Glazed front, I already have a new one (Thanks Markey Mark)

Anyone who knows about the brake pipe situation, I would be very grateful of any advice! :y

Omega General Help / Camber settings on a 2.5 TD
« on: 22 October 2007, 14:19:27 »
It seems everyone was busy on their Omegas this weekend, and I was no exception. Been needing to do the wishbones for sometime so tackled them on Saturday. Put new ones on and camber was better but still really bad. Didn't fancy paying loads to get it set properly so tried my hand at adjusting it myself... I will eventually get it done correctly, but with MOT and Tax already this month.. the finances are suffering!! I guessed that by using a spirit level and Pythagoras Theorem that i could get it within about 0.5 to 1 degree tolerance?

Pics show how bad the camber was to start with...

As i knew the diameter of the wheel and the distance btw the spirit level and the wheel, i worked out the angles of camber for each side... these are only rough calcs but the camber was about 3 degrees on n/s and 4 degree on o/s.

So I took wheels off and jacked car up, loosened bolts btw strut and hub and pulled them out to maximum adjustment. Then knocked them back a little and measured off my spirit level with a spacer i made up. I was aiming for about 1 degree, which i think is about what they should be??

Tightened bolts again and replaced wheels, measured camber and calc'd again... works out about 1 degree one side and 1.5 the other. The other was at full adjust though so not much i can do about it i think... an opinions on that?

Either way it handles the same but feels much smoother when cruising at speed and hopefully might improve my consumption somewhat.

This is only experimental so if anyone has any suggestions or opinions, please let me know!

Omega General Help / Strange grinding/crunching noise.. any help?
« on: 05 October 2007, 09:21:34 »
Hiya guys,

Car has been running fine but on Wednesday I pulled into work as usual and reversed into my space, only to hear a grinding noise coming from the front(ish) end of the car. Though it might just have been me reversing with too little revs and the diesel struggling.

Drove about 130 motorway miles not remembering the previous days problems, but when i got there i was hearing the same sound when turning right only. I jacked up the front left corner and had a good look around the suspension components, wishbones (knackered but being replaced, i do not think these are at fault), the steering felt good, the strut was tight and all seemed to be ok.

I drove home again and it seemed to be getting no worse.

This morning i start the car, and whilst it is still on choke, the noise is constant. If i rev the car it increases slightly but as the revs increase it stops. If i engage a forward gear and release the clutch slightly then it stops, if i try and reverse, the noise is extreme! When driving, under acceleration it is fine, drives just like normal - under deceleration the noise is bad and i can feel vibrations through the floor with my feet. The noise still happens on right hand turns, but not left hand. But when i brake firmly, the noise doesnt occur under this kind of deceleration...

I am starting to think that it is a drive train problem, possible prop shaft bearing? Car is parked up now as is undrivable - Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Omega General Help / Steering Idler Nylon Bush Modification...
« on: 28 August 2007, 10:44:41 »
Hiya,

I had some seriously vague steering on my car and it used to wander all over the road. Took the wheels off had a push and pull and saw the steering idler was worn. Quick look on here tells me they are £50+ at Vx or £30 online. Either way that's too much for my liking.

So i thought i would make a new bush for the original arm. Has anyone tried this before?? If you are interested there is some pics shown below and if anyone wants the dimensions of the bush, they should let me know!

Thanks, Platty

Hiya guys, having some problems with my fuel pump in the tank.  :(

Basically it doesnt work, so i was wondering whether they are serviceable or if it will need replacing.

If it does need replacing, does anyone have one that i could purchase?? or will i have to pay through my nose at Vx??

Omega General Help / General Service
« on: 29 March 2007, 01:40:55 »
Hiya, i hope im posting this is the right section! Im looking to do my first service on my newly acquired estate. Ive had a look through the technical guides and the oil & filter change info is a great help - thanks.

Im looking to change the diesel filter too and have heard it can be hard work, i couldnt see any info on it, so was wondering if anyone has had any experience changing it? Also when it comes to sourcing replacment parts (oil/air/diesel filters?) - is it worth going to vauxhall (are they better?) or can i just grab off the shelf at halfords?

I consider myself fairly practically minded but the reason im asking is because i changed the glow plugs last week and they were a bit of a pain in the backside!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Platty

As above - when I go to unlock my car it will unlock and then lock again straight away. Have stripped door card out and it is still the same - guessing the motor is knackered? (any other suggestions welcome)

If anyone has one I would like to try and get the new one put in this weekend.

Thanks, platty  :y
