Got a query from someone who tows a 1000 - 1100kg van in his 2.6 auto.

It frequently drops into 3rd between 45-55mph - does yours do this when towing, and does the gearbox software update help this issue?

I've never towed with an Omega before, so am unable to answer his query.

Had the day off with intention of fixing the tractor and the MV6 today.

Started on the tractor - need to do something about the saga of the weeping sump plug, and also needed to fix my bodge when the dipstick tube 'fell off' when I took it to the Lakes a couple of weeks back

To fix the weeping sump, I've filled in a cut in the sump boss with 'chemical metal' type stuff.  Applied this, left it to go off, then filed and sanded down to make a nice flat surface for the sump bolt to mate on.

The dipstick tube, the mounting bracket bolted to engine had broken.  So I used the dipstick off the spare engine in the garage that mounts to oil filter housing instead.  The O ring had also failed, and no dealer has ever sold one.  14.5x3mm. Nearest I could get after driving around everywhere is 14.5x2.5mm, so that had to go in.

Obviously changed the oil filter, then chucked a load of oil in. Hopefully that should be oil tight now.

As a special treat, it had some new wipers fitted - those ones I nicked of JamesV6CDX's car last spring were pretty rubbish now .  Mind you, they outlasted the tyres I nicked off him


The MV6 was altogether less successful - ran out of dry weather, light, see post in Omega Leak - MV6 Coolant (still) thread.


And why is it whenever I have a day off to play cars, it pisses down

Bloody thing has gone wrong again  

Only this time, it won't stay on more than a few mins before the picture goes.  And can't even report it faulty until Tuesday as Samsung service closed until then (and place I bought from won't deal in any way shape or form, claiming, wrongly, that the warranty is with Samsung).

Added to that, I know Samsung's local repairer in Banbury do not hold any M87 parts in stock, so that will be another 2 weeks  .

PSU aside, this set only has 2 component parts, and the main board has already been changed, so I guess they will try the panel itself next.


Last 3 TVs I've had have all caused me nothing but grief - the Sony, well, enough said. Piece of shit Sony junk. The Dell, and excellent little set let down by poor DTV software causing the DTV tuner to not always initialise. The Samsung, brilliant set, but failed twice now in 5 months.

The longest trip I have done in the tractor to date was a few days up in the Lakes.

Below, tractor halfway up Hardknot, with Wrynose Pass right in the background.



Must say, apart from dipstick tube falling off, tractor did the 850 miles without incident and acheived over 39mpg, despite being booted everywhere (including several incidents of loss of rear end traction going up the passes )

Just had air ambulance arrive in the rugby field (for those that don't know, my house backs on to rugby field).

Now I know its a contact sport, but I thought it had to be very serious for air ambulance? Hope whoever it is makes a speedy recovery (due to proximity, a few of my neighbours are members there, and my nearest neighbour is vice captain).
