Omega General Help / OEM disc and pad set
« on: 03 April 2015, 09:03:47 »
Only been on 6 months and covered less then 3000 miles and I have a friggin ridge on the outside of the disc already  >:(
Anybody else noticed this ?

Have Vauxhall started slipping in cheep crap under the guise of OEM ?

Is it time to start using pattern discs  :D

The one that connects the front hub sensor to the car loom.
Round white plug

How the hell do these things come apart ?

Everything on this car is seized solid  >:(
I can't get the wishbone to separate from the hub so i'm going to have to remove the lot and smash f*** out of it in the back garden  ::)
I've even managed to get my ball joint splitter wedged in there that tight that I can't remove it either way  >:(

Reminds me of my RAF days working on Lightning's ........... If in doubt, USE A BIGGER HAMMER  :D :D :D

Omega General Help / Quick question about wishbone fitting
« on: 01 April 2015, 15:05:02 »
For starters, i've read the guide and understand why the front bush needs nipping up under load.
I'm banging polys in and due to this, they is nothing to twist under load so can I just torque up the bush while its up in the air ?

199
And dripping chassis paint all over myself, I noticed a ECU type box bolted up inside the drivers side arch at the front.

Anybody know what it is ?

Just been nosey like  ;D

That hold on various bits of plastic on the side skirts / end panels and arches.
You know, the ones which always fall apart when you try and remove them  ::) >:(

Are they dealer only or can you get them off eBay or other places ?

Also, how do the painted side skirts come off ?
Looking at it its just a case of the bolts underneath and the end caps off  :-\

While i'm going to all this trouble, I may as well remove the skirts, rear bumper and liners so I can really go to town on any rust I can get too before it becomes a problem  :y

TIA  :)

Omega General Help / Urgent question ref rear shocks
« on: 20 March 2015, 13:12:17 »
Got the back end of my Mv6 Estate up in the air and stripped down for suspension overhaul / cleaning / painting.

Removed the GM shocks and pulled the Bilstein B4's out of the boxes.
The new B4's have a steel insert which is pushed through the rubber grommet on the suspension end.

Am I right in thinking that this needs to be pushed out so that the new shock can be fitted ??
Can't see any other way of doing it  :-\
I have checked the part numbers and things are okay on that front  :)

TIA  :)

General Car Chat / And another Corsa C question
« on: 14 March 2015, 13:10:29 »
Servicing the rear brakes / handbrake / cable.

What size is the centre nylock nut that holds the rear drum onto the shaft / back plate ?
Looks about 28mm but not sure  :-\  Whatever it is, I ain't got one so before I order a nice new impact socket for my collection, can somebody confirm the size please  :)

Also the handbrake lever has a distinct lack of spring on it but i'll be dammed if I can find one  ::)
For certain, its not on the back of the cable / drum  :-\

TIA  :)

General Car Chat / Chassis paint
« on: 10 March 2015, 21:09:49 »
Hopefully by next week, i'll have the time and all the bits to sort out the front suspension on my omega.
While its all stripped down and if its dry, i'm intending to give any exposed bits of chassis and frame work a good wire brush down and a couple of coats of chassis paint  :y

In the past, i've used Schultz black chassis paint but what was left has gone walk about  >:(

Any of you lads use something similar that you can recommend ??

TIA  :-*

General Car Chat / Corsa stereo question
« on: 09 March 2015, 06:31:21 »
Okay, having spent the last 3 days driving around in the lads car, I can confirm that the standard setup of CDR 2005 and OEM paper speakers is shite beyond belief  :(
In fact, id even have preferred to listen the missus dribbling in my ear for 3 days solid  ;D
THAT is how bad it sounds  ;D ;D

I have been looking on eBay at the CD30 which seams quite cheep.
What are these units like ?
Will they place mp3 discs ?
Any aux in ?
Is the wiring the same at the back ?

TIA  :-*

General Car Chat / question about the lads corsa
« on: 05 March 2015, 12:32:44 »
1.3 cdti on a 54 plate.
The cars had a new radiator fitted fairly recently but looses water.
They is strong evidence of anti freeze on the bottom wishbones underneath the bottle so my guess is its either got a cracked bottle or a dodgy cap.
Ever since I have flushed the system, it has started blowing the pipe off the water pump.
The pipe is a pretty loose fit but air now seems to be getting in the system since the flush,

First question is ............. Do all corsa c's have the same bottle ?
Second question is .............. Is they anything else I should be looking at ?

Other then this, the car runs and goes great  :y

TIA  :)

I'll also add that i've just swapped the cap with the one off the omega so i'll see if it makes any difference over the next few hours

Omega General Help / Poly bushing the wishbones
« on: 20 February 2015, 18:46:40 »
Just a quickie ................. The front wishbone kit and poly bushes have arrived.
I've just read the guide but have a quick question ?

Removing the rubber bush looks fun in a mindless violence sort of way  ;)
Removing the outer metal sleeve may need a more gentle approach  ;D

Right, these purple poly bushes .............. do they need warming up first or just add a little of the lubricating grease supplied and ram the bugger in cold ?

Just thought, that sounds rather NWS but you get my drift  ;D ;D

General Car Chat / Quick Corsa question
« on: 17 February 2015, 20:44:51 »
Mini Me has bought himself a 54 plate 5 door Corsa 1.3 cdti hatchback :y

I am going down to see it on Saturday morning and hopefully bring it home.

1st question             Where is the diagnostic port on these cars so I can check the codes / live data ?
Anything I should look for in particular while inspecting it ?

Tia  :)

General Car Chat / Cheepest way to insure a young un
« on: 16 February 2015, 11:53:59 »
Okay, just started getting car / van quotes for my lad
He is 19 years old and only has a provisional licence.

The cunning plan was to buy a van with 2 seats only and insure it with dad (me) as the named 2nd driver.
My lad is at collage doing painting and decorating 2 days a week, the rest he is doing any small painting jobs for my customers that I can get him.

Just been on various comparison sites and the best we can find is 2 grand for a 10 year old corsa van worth about 1200 quid  :(

Is this about right ?
I honestly though that being a van with only 2 seats and having "dad" as the named other driver, it would have been cheaper then that  :-\

Any of you lot being in a similar situation and found a cheapish way around this ?

Omega General Help / rear seat question

Will the heated rear seats off my pfl estate fit straight into the facelift MV6 ?

Are the switches / relays the same ?
