In Bristol, pick up only, it's pretty heavy.

I think it's usable but the DMF does have some play in it. There's also a used clutch pressure plate and friction plate - loads of friction material left. I had already bought a clutch kit so I fitted the new one.

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / 2.5V6 Manual Gearbox £20

In Bristol, pick up only, I don't fancy posting it!!!

Cost me a lot more than £20 but I'd rather have the cash than the gearbox taking up space in the garage.

I believe it's fine, I bought it when I thought I had a gearbox problem but it turned out to be the clutch :(

The good points

In excellent condition (see pics).

Drives really really well, doesn’t pull left or right. Really rapid and smooth.
Doesn’t burn any oil between oil changes.
Doesn’t leak any fluids or even lose pressure from the tyres.

Has cruise, Bluetooth handsfree, 4 almost new tyres, Witter dual electric towbar.

It’s a year 2000 model but I put a cheap private plate on to hide its age.
It’s a manual.

Oil changes (I’ve spent a lot on oil and filters!):

The bad points

177,000 miles
MOT expires 1 April 2011
Front door central locking solenoids are a bit sticky (I suspect a squirt of WD40 would sort them out, if the door doesn’t lock on the first press of the remote it always locks on a second press).
Just failed the new MOT (one month before old one expires). It has only failed on droplinks and one leaking front shock absorber. So it could be got through for about £80 of parts, in fact if I’d wiped the oil off the shock it would probably only have failed on the droplinks. However, the wishbones are a bit tired and I’d only change the shocks in pairs so to fix the car properly requires 2 x droplinks, 2 x wishbones, 2 x front shocks.

I’m located in Bristol and I’d like £250 for the car. I also need to hang on to it for a week or two until I can buy something else.

General Discussion Area / Towing mirrors - advice please
« on: 30 September 2008, 20:04:56 »
Just setting up the Omega so I can buy and tow a caravan.

Got a good idea on all the electrics and towbar fitting but could someone advise me on mirrors.

I believe I need mirror extensions to tow a caravan, but what's good on an Omega and what's bad......

General Discussion Area / Air compressors - what to get
« on: 31 January 2008, 08:56:56 »
Could someone give me advice on air compressors....

I think I'd like to invest in an air impact wrench and compressor. I'd be able to pop my wheels off just like Kwik Fit  ;D

I think a 50litre tank will be comfortable and a compressor with at least 5cfm. The Sealey offering looks good:

http://www.justoffbase.co.uk/Compressor-50ltr-Direct-Drive-2-0hp-Sealey-SA2250-2

But what about couplings, hoses, oil etc.

Do they need special compressor oil or will good old Vx semi do the trick (I have a fair bit of that!).

Do I want a rubber hose, coiley hose. Big bore hose or small?

Then do I need to buy air tool oil for the wrench too.

It's all adding up....all advice welcome.

General Discussion Area / Autovaux - odd problem
« on: 31 January 2008, 11:32:28 »
Bought some complete track rod end assemblies. That's two ball joints and the adjuster in the middle for both sides. Cost around £90 for the lot incl VAT. Mines a facelift so they're a bit different to the pre-facelift parts which are easier and cheaper to get.

Anyway after about 8 months I was servicing the car and I found the rubber boots had just fallen apart.

Phoned Autovaux, who were very good and sent out replacement parts. Fitted them and paid to get the tracking done (and paid to send the original parts back). 2 months later I've noticed the boots are failing again.

All the other rubber boots on the car are fine and some are original.

Phoned Autovaux, now just about 12 months from first order, and again they're sending replacements. Trouble is how long will these last.

Autovaux say the parts are OEM and they have no alternative supplier.
They also say they've had no other problems with anyone else......

Anyone else had any similar problems?

Going over to "the other side" (site).

I'm guilty, or I wouldn't have noticed, would I  :o

I find whole, very interesting threads, entirely from members of this forum. What's going on????

Surely we should try to have the conversations over here.
