Omega General Help / Lack of power - would like some advice :-(
« on: 03 July 2009, 23:57:36 »
Hi folks,

Well, since I've been running my poor Miggy into the ground this last month, things seem to be going from bad to worse with her :-(

Firstly, every now and again, the engine vibrates quite badly - like it's missing on a cylinder or two.  Sometimes it's when the engine's cold, sometimes it's after shifting into a higher gear.  (I would have thought it was clutch judder, but there's no clutch slip under hard accelleration).

Secondly, it feels like it's lacking grunt.  It does pick up eventually, but it takes a while.

Thirdly, over 60mph, when I lift off the accellerator, there's a grumbling noise - it goes away when I put my foot down, but comes back when I lift off.  This is accopanied by some vibrations.  Could it be the prop shaft centre bearing, or is the diff stuffed??

Fourthly, the suspension wheezes quite a bit when going over speed bumps, and the car feels a bit "bouncy" - I take it that means it's time for me to fit new shockers?

Any advice would be greatly appreaciated  :y

Omega General Help / Wit's End...!
« on: 15 May 2009, 23:30:32 »
Well, they say they come in three's...  But my list is up to 7!

On way to work this morning, I noticed that something seemed funny on the motorway.  The car suddenly feels like it's running on 60psi in each tyre - I can feel every bump or catseye in the motorway, whereas it used to waft over them.

I also noticed that from 65mph+ there's a droning noise, which seems to stop once I lift off the accellerator (I've had this before, but it stopped, and now for some unexplained reason it's started again???  :( )

Sometimes, if I put it into 5th gear at 15mph for example, there's a bit of a judder (like a slight miss-fire?), but then it picks up fine.  It used to pull away from 15mph in 5th gear just fine and dandy.

If I floor it in 2nd gear, it doesn't seem to have anywhere near the urgency it used to have - no miss-firing or anything, and it revs freely enough - it just feels like it's get-up-and-go has got-up-and-gone... (over 3k rpm, it used to give me a right shove in the back, but alas this is no more  :( )

A couple of weeks ago, the driver's side exhaust pipe that goes into the back-box sheared off.  I "repaired" it for the time being with that Gun Gum kit that supposidly will get your car through an MOT (just as an emergency measure really).  But now the other side has gone  >:(

My EML came on the day before yesterday with the dreaded 0420 and 0430 codes (after having the codes reset, and running on nothing but Shell petrol)

And to top things off, I just went to get a CD out of my car, and within the last hour, some scrote has taken it upon themselves to key the side of my car!!  >:(  >:(  >:(

Talk about a bad couple of days...

If anybody has any advice, it'd be gratefully appreciated...

Omega General Help / Respray Costs??
« on: 02 May 2009, 00:08:31 »
Anybody got a general idea on how much it would cost to respray:

Front bumper
Bonnet
Roof (including filling 2 12mm holes where plod aerials were fitted - currently got grommets in their place...)
Boot (saloon)
Rear bumper

It's Nocturno Blue (Pearl.)

Rest of paintwork is fine and dandy.  Yes, tried safe-cut et al, but not made a difference in getting rid of the small stonechips/scratches.

Looks great when it's first waxed (I use AutoGlym Super Deep Shine), but then after washing it (by hand may I add) for the first time after waxing, the chips/scratches start coming through again.

One of the local paintshops wants 600notes, which seems a bit excessive really...

Omega General Help / "Click" from plenum??
« on: 29 April 2009, 20:07:57 »
Hi Folks,

I was just checking under the bonnet when the engine was running, and noticed that every now and again there was a "Click" noise.

No pattern to it really, just the odd "Click" every now and again.

It sounds to me like it's coming from the plenum.

Any ideas what it could be?  Possibly a sticky injector??

Omega General Help / Breathers
« on: 14 April 2009, 11:32:34 »
Hi Folks,

I'm going to have a crack at cleaning out the breathers today.

I've had a look at the maintenance guide, which is very useful.  But, I can't see how you'd get access to the breather box - is it something I'd need to take the scuttle off to get to?

Also, I don't have any carb cleaner - would WD40 do the job??

Omega General Help / Handbrake Button Sticking
« on: 03 April 2009, 14:47:36 »
Hi Folks,

Having a bit of a problem with the button on my Mig's handbrake - sometimes it sticks in, and it won't lock into position when pulling it up.  But after pulling it to the top of it's travel a couple of times, it pops out again.

Is there anywhere where it needs oiling??  :-/

Omega General Help / Error Code 0336
« on: 26 March 2009, 10:24:28 »
Hi Folks,

Just been having difficulties starting my Miggy - it did get going eventually, after quite a bit of cranking...

Which makes me think the crankshaft position sensor is goosed.  Done the pedal trick, and it's showing "0336" - but error code for CPS is "0335"  :-?

How difficult is it to change?

Omega General Help / Air Con Not Working
« on: 18 March 2009, 15:43:34 »
Hi Folks,

I originally added this onto the back of the thread which was posted earlier today (I do apologise for that blatent hijacking!!  :-[ )

So thought I'd better post here...

Basically, I'm having probs with my Air Con not working (well, Climate Control - it's a facelift).

With ECO switched off, and the temp set to LO, the air doesn't blow cold.

Looking at the A/C Pump in the engine bay, the bit with the knobs on at the front of the pump doesn't spin.  With the engine off, the bit with knobs on does turn freely.

But I'm also getting error code p1530, which is:
P1530 A/C Relay Voltage HighB-021
P1530 A/C Relay Voltage LowB-021
P1530 A/C Relay Circuit OpenB-021

Is this likely to be caused by lack of A/C gas?
Or is it the relay?  If so - where is the relay?

Also, not sure if it's related or not - if I switch the engine on with ECO on, ECO on the Climate Control panel flashes on and off for a few seconds.  Is this right?

Cheers

Omega General Help / LSD ID
« on: 14 March 2009, 01:18:05 »
Hi Folks,

I know this has prob been done to death (have done a search, but can't find anything though...  :-? ) - but how can you tell if you've got an LSD fitted?

My motor's a 53-plate ex-plod manual, so would be interested to know.

Omega General Help / Grumbling/Droning Noise
« on: 23 January 2009, 11:09:57 »
Hi Folks,

From 65mph+ on my Miggy, a grumbling/droning noise starts.  Can't really hear where it's coming from.

When accellerating, the noise goes away.  But when I lift off, the noise comes back.

Anybody any ideas??

Omega General Help / Cap in hand - anyone local in the North-West??
« on: 21 December 2008, 00:17:33 »
Hi Folks,

Basically, long story short...

Getting codes 0420 and 0430, but have a broken tube on breather box.  Have just got a new breather box today, and fitting it tomorrow.  By some kind of miraculous fluke, it may be that what's causing the error code (poss over-fuelling because of vac leak?  :-/ )

And I've noticed today that there's quite a bit of seapage from the cam-cover area  >:(.

I've gone to clean the breathers out, but can't see where the breather body is...  :-/

So my cap-in-hand question is 3-fold...

1 - anyone near me got a cheapo Tech2 to reset the codes to see if it was the knackard breather box causing the problem?

2 - after xmas, I will be looking at getting the cam-cover gaskets sorted.  Again, anybody local willing to give a lending hand?  I've seen the "how-to" guides, but can get quite spanner-shy/overfaced sometimes...  :-[

3 - Probably to be covered as part as Number 2 really...

As a motivator, there would be plenty of tea and/or homebrew (depending on your beverage of choice!) on tap  :y

Omega General Help / Lack of grunt...
« on: 21 December 2008, 00:42:57 »
Hi again folks...

Not sure if this is related if my other posts, but...

My Miggy seems quite a bit down on grunt.

As I've said before - the 2nd from the left outlet on the breather box has broke off, but am going to fit a new un tomorrow.

Is this likely to fix things?  :-? Or is it going to be a multi-ram problem?

I can "tickle" the accellerator, and she picks up ok, but if I plant it - well, there is nowhere near as much grunt as there was from my last 3.2 Manual Miggy  :(

Anyone any suggestions?  :-?

Cheers  :y

Omega General Help / Aircon - Facelift - Normal??
« on: 21 December 2008, 00:30:54 »
Firstly...

If I've pressed the "Eco" button, whenever I start the car, it flashes - is that normal?

Also, if I turn the air-con on (by pressing the "Eco" button), the rev's fluctuate.  But, with the bonnet up, the bit at the front of the air-con compressor (with the three knobs on) doesn't start spinning - nor do any of the fans.

Is this right??  :-?

Omega General Help / Removing Centre Console Trim - Facelift
« on: 18 December 2008, 12:43:01 »
Hi Folks,

I'm in the process of removing the centre console trim (the bit that goes around the climate control unit and the switches on the dash) so I can get rid of the holes where the police equipment was fitted.

I've got it unscrewed from the dash, and removed the climate control unit, but can't disconnect the plugs from the back of the switches?

How on earth do you get them out?!  >:(  I've managed to disconnect one green plug which just pulled out, but the rest aren't budging.

And the big blue one that goes to the TC and boot release switches fits into grooves which run from left-to-right  :-?  How can this be the case if it's meant to push onto the switch connectors from behind?  But again, it ain't budging...

Anybody any suggestions on how to disconnect them?

Omega General Help / Facelift Ashtray Plug Wiring Connector
« on: 12 December 2008, 23:56:49 »
Hi again folks,

Tomorrow's plan is to get the centre console surround out to fill in the holes that the Police kindly put in, then spray up.

But I've noticed that the ciggie lighter doesn't work.  When I've took it out, there's only one wire going to the plug - a brown one with white trace.

When I've traced it back, there's another 2 wires which are soldered onto 2 smaller-guage wires - which I assume were destined to go to the ashtray unit connecting plug before the boys in blue decided they should go elsewhere.

The plug has slots for 4 wires - was one of the slots not used, seeing as I can only find 3 wires in total?

Also, which wires should be connected to which plug, as you look at the female connecting side from the dashboard?

Cheers  :y
