Omega General Help / How many handbrake clicks are ok for MOT
« on: 19 March 2007, 20:30:12 »
My barge is booked in for MOT on Thursday and the only thing that concerns me is the handbrake.  It has 5 useless clicks and holds (well) on number 6.  There is no number 7.

When engaged it holds fine but should I fettle with it before it goes in?  I'd rather not   :-?

Omega General Help / Check Lights Warning
« on: 03 March 2007, 23:00:37 »
My new Kayak instructor has a 2.5 diesel M plate Omega.  Says he has a dash warning regarding lights.

I assume this is to do with cheap stop/tail lights but any other ideas?  :-/  (Car was in for MOT today so I couldn't check.)

He also needs a seat adjuster switch (electrical) if anyone has a spare, PM please.

Omega General Help / Where is it going?
« on: 03 March 2007, 23:09:15 »
Checked water level today and sitting half inch below normal.

No contamination on oil filler cap or dipstick and no drips on garage floor.

I'll check hoses tomorrow, but thinking maybe HBV?  Pics of best place to look would be great  ::)

Omega General Help / Track Rod Ends - Prices
« on: 23 February 2007, 21:24:26 »
My track rod ends are shot and need replacing - anyone know of a good supplier?  :-?

I found 1 on Ebay for a tenner - VX original -  http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OMEGA-TIE-ROD-END-PASS-SIDE-NEW-GEN-VAUX-90510651_W0QQitemZ230093563944QQihZ013QQcategoryZ10404QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Trouble is I need 2  >:(  So should I buy that one and get another from VX (are they really £44?) or plump for matching pattern parts from local motor factors?

Probably worth changing the drop links too - so buying advice here also appreciated  :y

Cheers

Omega General Help / Track Rod Ends?
« on: 20 February 2007, 15:47:25 »
New wishbones fitted 3 weeks ago and tracking reset by local garage.

Metallic clunk noted afterwards when hitting/exiting speed bumps or potholes from front wheels - local mechanic thinks track rod ends have excess play and tracking will be miles out.

Back to tracking station and all green within tolerances and the guy shakes the TRE from underneath, declaring they are ok but he's need to look further - book it in etc.

Out comes the trolley jack when I get home and 12/6 o'clock position - no play - but 9/3 o'clock - oo er missus - they wobble about so much I had to check the wheel nuts were tight. Both sides.

So - Is it track rod ends?  I get no wheel wobble, drives straight but knocks on bumps, and if so where do you suggest I source a set of new ones?

Omega General Help / Track rod ends
« on: 31 January 2007, 20:14:53 »
Had new wishbones fitted last week but now have a new clunk when squaring up to speed bumps from the left front.  Whilst in the garage today with Water Pump I asked them to check it out.

He now tells me track rod ends are worn and have too much play in them. Sorry, he never noticed before and surprised other fitter that reset the tracking never noticed.

Q. What does this mean in english? Are they easy to change? Are the expensive? Can I do it? Any pics (Markjay)

There's always something.............. :-/

Omega General Help / Emissions Light finally extinguished
« on: 17 January 2007, 22:59:01 »
After 6 long months of driving with a nasty orange glow I've finally fixed it.

What did I do to clear the fault P0100 identified as MAF problem I hear you ask..... :-?

I sent back the EBay unit that wouldn't work and the guy sent me another - so I thought I'd humour him before sending it back for a refund.  Started the car - light on.  Stopped for 30mins and came home with the dash still lit up orange.  :(

But then......I got in this morning and OMG it's gone!!! [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Car drives fine, less lag is anything when setting off and all for £45. :)

Omega General Help / I know I keep asking but....
« on: 11 January 2007, 23:00:59 »
its still not fixed.....

Final question - if my car is hesitating under load at 50 ish with the new MAF is it cos the units knackd cos the old one works fine, as I'm not sure whether to send it back as faulty (and have the guy test it and say its fine - no refund) or simply return it "as my mechanic has found the fault and I only ordered it just in case sir...."

?????????????

Omega General Help / Replaced my fuel filter today
« on: 07 January 2007, 11:43:55 »
Easy peasy. 20 mins and that included taking pics for a basic how2. (5 next time)

I even used the old clips (cos I forgot to buy new yesterday) and didn't get petrol in my eyes once.  :)

And if it's any help it doesn't add any power but does sit smoother at idle and the gearstick doesn't wobble as much  ;D

Omega General Help / Exhaust drip - normal?
« on: 07 January 2007, 11:48:24 »
Started the car up from cold this morning after being garaged overnight.  (Last driven home yesterday 100 miles in the rain but totally dry today) and checking for fuel leaks I noticed this

http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o317/chopsdad/?action=view&current=Exhaustdrip.flv

Needless to say it's just clean water but if it's condensation from inside the pipe should I get it replaced?

Omega General Help / Fixed my throttle problem today
« on: 06 January 2007, 22:54:50 »
Took it up to Vx and had a quiet word with the Techie.  Ran the Tech2 over it and fault code still PO100 - MAF sensor - but he did search for software updates and installed newer version 2.096 for me.

Turned off the engine and fired it up - oh shitt - it rumbled like it was missing a cylinder (and it's already 2 down) and the EML lit up - Zero throttle response.

Knocked it off and on again and we're in business - Throttle whizzing up and down like it should and idle consumption now constant at 0.2 (ususally 03/0.4) - Hoo bloody ray  :y

MAF fault still present and lit up again on the way home, so I'm gonna fit a new MAF £40 on Ebay (genuine Vx & new) and he refused my bung for the second time - so actually it seems fair enough to me.  He seems to know his Meega's and says they shoudn't but do fail often - I know this isn't always true but it's worth a go at this stage.

 ;D  ;D  ;D  I knew I hadn't buggered it up myself  ;D  ;D  ;D

What's next - Fuel Filter tomorrow and Wishbones next week  :y
