Omega General Help / Buy fronts and rear springs, which ones?
« on: 26 August 2018, 19:24:58 »
I did buy an Omega a while ago from a young guy who had cut the springs to make it look cool, well it sort of does but it's not my style so I have to get new springs for it.

Looking at different sites selling this I find several different ones with different specs. They vary in wire diameter and length.

I want it to be as original or maybe slightly stiffer.

Please help me chose the right ones.

Omega General Help / Will a 3.2L exhaust system fit on a 2.6L
« on: 18 August 2018, 22:44:55 »
On my 3.2L donor car I have a stainless sport exhaust system. Will that fit on a 2.6L car? Is there a difference in size on the flange from the cat pipes?

I am about to replace my old Omega with another that is in better shape. The "new" one only came with one key and in that key the battery older is loose.

I was thinking that since the old one will be scraped for parts I could move all the lock parts over to the "new" one and then get the two working keys I got to be used in the new car.

Is that doable, if I move over all stuff it would work, right?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Replacing AC compressor on V6
« on: 25 July 2018, 13:38:20 »
Well of course when we have a heat spell this year the AC compressor gave up, it started to sound really bad with a knocking noise and when I shut the AC off the sound went away.

I have ordered a new compressor and will change it as soon as I get it. My question is is it easiest to remove it from the underside of the car and what else has to be removed to get it changed?

Appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Rear discs on 2.6L V6?
« on: 20 July 2018, 12:00:16 »
I'm about to buy a 2.6L V6 Omega and the rear brakes are in need of replacement. On one of my current Omegas, a 3.2L with the vented rotors, I have good brakes. My thought is to move over the rear brakes from the old one to this new one.

My question is then if the vented rotors and calipers will fit on the 2.6L car? If I'm correct the only difference is the rotors and calipers and I am hoping that they will fit.

The old 3.2L will be taken apart and scraped. I will keep the usable stuff from it.

Thanks

On my 3.2 V6 the fuel pump seems to have given up. I have one more car like it for winter use and I will borrow the pump from that one just now to get going. it gave up today and is stranded 120 km from home, will go there with the pump and replace it so I can drive it again.

But I need to find a new (used) pump, there are a few on the scarp yards over here in Sweden but I need to know if they are different between the different engines. I found one out of a '01 2.6L that looks fresh.

Just to be sure that I fit one that can provide for my engine.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Partnumber help
« on: 21 April 2018, 16:43:58 »
I went to the Opel dealer to get new screws for my grille. The bonnet has got new paint and I want everything to look clean.

When looking at the parts list and schematic these screws weren't listed! And without a part number the service man is lost.

I suppose that the same kind of screw is used in other places.

It looks like this:

Omega General Help / New rear wiper arm and clean up
« on: 16 April 2018, 19:47:35 »
Since my Omega is so very nice and good looking I was a little annoyed by the rear wiper arm that had lost its paint in some areas and it didn't looked good on this car.

The Opel dealer could order a new one from Germany, it cost about £50.00. It took less than a week before they called that it was there for pickup. In the mean time I removed the plastic cover to clean up behind it. That pocket collects dust and especially if driven during winter salt and dust collects there and you get rust below the cover.

This car has nothing of that but I wanted to clean it up anyway.

Here is how it looked when I removed the cover.

And now a little better

Result with new wiper arm

The big nut that holds the cover had some rust that I removed with sand paper. The thread that holds the wiper arm was a little rusty too but some 5.56 and running the nut back and forth took care of that too.

After just a few hundred meters the ABS and TC light came on.

I read elsewhere on this forum that different tire sizes can cause this. I have 245/35X18 profile in front and 245/45X18 profile in the rear.

I guess this is the cause of the lights coming on. Is there a way to fix this or do I have to buy new tires for the rear. Reason for the difference is that the 45 profile are to tall for the front and hits the struts spring pocket.

Thanks

I'm about to rewire my fog lamps to be running lights. For this to work I need to pick up 12V IGN power some where in the harness that doesn't inflict to much on other things. On GM cars it is usually pink wires that are hot under ignition.

See my diagram on my idea on how to wire this with two relays.

Thanks

Omega Gallery / New Wheels fro my new Omega
« on: 04 November 2017, 10:22:11 »
I posted about the new Omega I bought from Germany in September, http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=140845

Now I have mounted the new wheels I got for it. Rims are Dotz 18" with 245/45 in the rear and 245/35 in front. I discovered the hard way that the 245/45 didn't fit in the front since they hit the lower spring support. So now I have two spare rear tires  ;D ;D

This car will be stored over winter and I will drive my old one as my winter car. Both are 3.2L V6's

Looks pretty good I think.

Need new adjusters for my headlights but the email to "Sparksandnoise" is bouncing. And he hasn't been here on the forum for two years.

I bought a pair a few years ago for my old Omega and need them for my new car.

Anyone knows if you still can get them?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Radio connector pinout
« on: 29 September 2017, 18:34:46 »
Can anybody help me with the pinouts on this connector from a CART2007 Phillips unit. Number 17 - 36. As you can see on the image some are not used.

Image is flipped so that the numbers match the label on the radio, unfortunately number  17 - 36 isn't labeled. I am mainly looking for the connection to the steering wheel buttons.
On my other Omega that cable is in the lowest connectors #5 and that one is not used here.

My cable adapter has connections at the following positions:
18-23
27
32-36

So there is a mismatch in some

Omega General Help / Opel shop couldn't change language on GID display
« on: 29 September 2017, 10:42:57 »
My new Omega that I have imported from Germany has the GID display and the CART2007 radio and the display is of course in German.

I would like to change that to Swedish. I booked an appointment today for them to use the TECH2 to reprogram it to Swedish. They were able to do that but as soon as they started the car it went back to German.

I'm going to replace the CART2007 with some more modern stuff so I think that the reprogramming has to be done before I remove it.

What did the mechanic do wrong? They said it needed a few hours of setting different units in the car to the correct country code, is that right?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Where is this suposed to be?
« on: 28 September 2017, 17:24:05 »
Today when I was checking the ventilation filter on my new Omega I found a rubber strip down in the well. It looks like it is as wide as the filter. Anyone know where this rubber should be?
