General Car Chat / Another clean pass
« on: 26 March 2019, 17:41:32 »
And so another year MOT pass with no advisories. I don't think I have had a fail on this car since I had it.
I was invited to see underneath, and the tester said, its in top nick.
Well pleased :)
Have to say though, it only did 500 miles in the last year !!!!

Omega General Help / Spanner light on.....again
« on: 07 March 2019, 11:31:30 »
Hi all,
On October 2016, I posted here about spanner light being on. James changed the gearbox oil, then said camcovers were leaking (due to the smell). Changed these, and all has been well since. No codes.
Yesterday Swmbo came back to say spanner light was on, and poor acceleration, I assume limp mode. When she stopped at the son's, when the car was started , she came home , no light, and car running well. Just did a pedal test....exactly the same codes as last time, which are...1700, 0500,0500
The car seems to stink again, wondering if camcovers have let go. Surely the gearbox oil should be ok !!! Could the camcovers leak over something and cause the codes. I know the stem seals are poor, as Brackley gets a blue cloud when I start up, but it soon stops.
If you pick this up, TB, any chance of a Tech 2 on the gearbox etc.
I have an MOT due in four weeks.
TIA chaps.

Hi all....
As most of you know, I ran the High Wycombe meets a couple of years ago, sadly curtailed by elements outside of my control.
However, as a resident of Brackley, South Northants now, I am putting feelers out with my contacts over here, about a possible venue for a meet. I am looking at a venue with car park, and inside facilities. Food and drink is under discussion. I am looking at Mayday, as was Wycombe.
What I want to know, is there any interest in my going ahead and trying to fix something up.

General Discussion Area / Condensing versus Combi
« on: 06 October 2018, 17:21:28 »
Hi....after 45 years in the last house with condensing boilers, and no water meter to contend with, I now find myself metered and with a Combi boiler.
I may be wrong, but I thought these things were supposed to be energy/water savers !!!.  The distance from the boiler in the landing cupboard, to the bathroom, is no different as was the hot water tank to the bathroom in Wycombe. However, the amount of water that goes down the plughole, before any semblance of hot water appears is huge, over a handbasin full. Is this normal !!!! ???

General Discussion Area / Broadband extension
« on: 06 October 2018, 14:45:36 »
So....here we are, installed in our new Brackley home, but my man cave is at the opposite end of the building to where I want another internet connection. I have done a bit of reading and it seems to me that using the electrical circuit is the easiest way to extend the internet.
I read it as this....I plug in a unit in the mains by my computer, then connect a cable from it to my BT Home Hub 6. I then plug the second module into a power point in the front bedroom, then run a cable from that unit to my other computer.
I believe these units are about £22 for the pair for the BT ones.
1.....do they work
2.....do they use electricity
3.....I am on up to 76mb at my hub, last speedcheck was 68mb what would the drop be through these units.
I don't really want to be running miles of cables through/outside the house. Any advice on experience of use , or any other ideas welcomed. :y
PS....its too far to connect a cable to TB's house ;D ;D

General Car Chat / Mazda 6 windows
« on: 08 September 2018, 11:47:20 »
Hi all...
Has/does anyone on here own or has owned a Mazda 6.!! Do you know if the windows can be closed from the outside, like the Omega.
I have tried holding the button down but nothing happens. Also, the side mirrors, I keep forgetting to turn them in from the inside. I had looked through the handbook, but its a bit evasive. I also posted on the Mazda forum, but that is like waiting for paint to dry to get a response !!!!!
My car is a 2014 Mazda 6 SE-Nav Skyactive, 2.0ltr petrol Auto.
Any ideas appreciated. :y

General Discussion Area / Resident of Brackley
« on: 13 August 2018, 00:38:04 »
I am now a resident of Brackley !!!!! The Omega is here, where it will be lovingly cared for by me, TB and the Gixer (not that they know it yet!!!! ) It has been a traumatic experience, and not one I am willing to repeat. I am lined up for a massive war with BT, I won't bore you with details....yet....
I have a few contacts here, no promises, but I will see if I can set up a meet in the vicinity....may have to lick a few arses to get there ;D But we shall see !!!! :y

General Discussion Area / At long last....
« on: 01 August 2018, 21:39:10 »
Finally, after being screwed up left right and centre....we are finally moving to Brackley on August 10th.
I cannot believe the trivial shite coming out from first time buyers and solicitors. Sold this place (stc) in April !!!!
We have exchanged a week later than were told, consequently the five moving companies we had quotes from can't now do the date!!!! Have found one with a vacancy, coming tomorrow to give a quote.
So Brakkers here we come

General Discussion Area / How to get rid of paint!!!
« on: 29 May 2018, 17:36:05 »
Simple enough question to ask, but hard to find a decent answer.
Council site says they won't accept liquid paint, so trying to fill the pots with sand. Can't see it ever drying.
Help !!!!!

General Discussion Area / Hopefully moving house
« on: 27 May 2018, 13:19:36 »
Very slowly things are happening. Had the buyers surveyor around at 8am yesterday morning. If we could not have taken that appointment, the next appointment was in a fortnight.!!!!! Worse than the doctors !!!!!! I did not think there was much movement in house sales, so lord knows what they are surveying.
The good news was she said our house was ok, valuation etc. The buyer has had a mortgage agreed, subject to the valuation. At least we don't have that problem in Brackley, as we won't have a mortgage. Probably have a survey anyway, but at least there will be no time limitation.
TB would probably know when the house was built, as its near him, but it can't be that old.
Last time we moved was 45 years ago, and I have told her, if this goes tits up, I ain't going through it again. Too stressful  :(
