Hi guys,

Bought as I thought mine was dying - turns out it was the crank pulley after all. Paid £50 for it, would accept £30 or any sensible offers considered.

Thanks!  :D

Hi guys,

As per title, my PAS pump has gone up the swanny and I am now in need of a replacement. Is anyone breaking a 2.5TD at present or have one knocking around in the shed?

As long as it spins freely it must be better than mine.

Thanks!

Platty

Hi Guys,

Had a bit of jangling from the rear end, so when I checked today I wasn't overly surprised to see this:

Does anyone one have an old spring knocking around in their garage looking for a new home?

I have got to do about 400 miles over the weekend, 5 up with luggage - so would like to get hold of a new one by the end of the week if possible. Can PayPal cash straight away.

Thanks!

« on: 18 January 2010, 08:35:12 »
Hi Guys,

The cold snap has killed my drivers side washer jet so am looking to fit another one if anyone has one knocking around?

Can PayPal cash over - would be easiest.

Hi Guys,

I had the age old problem of poor starting when the fuel was low (20l>) so I set about fixing it (see Maintenance Guide). Anyway as I didn't replace the pump at the time (simple clean and refit) it has now died completely.

Does anyone have a working pump from a diesel, or alternatively, does anyone have a petrol tank pump photo so that I can compare the two?

Has anyone tried to fit the petrol variant into a diesel before?

I am looking at all avenues before I go ahead with a new one from Vx which I know is an expensive job.

Any help appreciated.

Hi guys, my load cover has been annoying me for a while now so I thought I should get it sorted out once and for all. Whipped it out yesterday and found the problem, one of the wheely things is missing off one end:

The other end is fine, and shows the part I require:

As you can imagine, I don't want or need to replace the whole cover - I just need to find one of these bits. Does anyone have an old load cover hanging around where they could pinch the bits from? Can send dosh/paypal/transfer if you have anything  :y

Thanks!

Cars for Sale & wanted / For Sale: '96 Omega Estate 2.5TD Manual

For Sale: '96 Omega Estate 2.5TD Manual

At long last the time has come for the Omega to move on as its replacement has now arrived ('03 530d Sport) so it is up for sale after just over 4 years of my ownership.

Photo is a few months old but give the general impression - there is probably just more rust now though. I am planning on getting the car cleaned out of my belongings this week and will give her a wash and take some up to date snaps before the weekend.

Car is a '96 P reg CDX Estate with 210k. Has been serviced and maintained by myself since I got it on 145k - this involves oil changes every 4k with Vx goods and the usual service filters etc. It has MOT until Nov 11 and Tax until the end of March.

New parts/Good points:

- Replacement Crank Pulley - Late ‘10
- New (metal blade) Water Pump - Nov ‘10
- Replacement Lit Pump Assy - Summer ‘10
- Belt Tensioner - Summer ‘10
- Ally Tensioner bracket - Early ‘09
- Chip fitted - Early ‘09 (can easily be put back to standard spec if required)
- Swan neck towbar with Twin electrics

Bad Points:

- Clutch has been slipping under full acc for about 10k and doesn’t have much life left.
- NSF Wing took a whack about 3 years ago but appears to be galv so no rust just a bit wrinkled and some paint missing.
- Rust around rear arches and lower part of rear screen - slowly getting worse.
- Slightly sticking waste gate on turbo meaning that there is a temporary lack of power sometimes when you have been cruising at a set speed. A dip of the clutch to allow the engine to idle briefly soon frees it up and all is resumed.
- Windscreen has a couple of chips and a good crack, although all of which are on the passenger side so have not caused any issues in the last few MOTs.

General Notes:

Interior all in OK condition, all electrics work as they should except for the MID which is a bit hit and miss in the old pixel department.

OSF Wing, Drivers Door and passenger door have been re-sprayed (not particularly well) at some point prior to my ownership - they don’t look bad but the masking and finish were/are a bit poor.

I know it is not worth a lot and that you can’t polish a turd, but if anyone is interested please feel free to make me an offer in the region of £350.

If there is anything I haven’t covered, please drop me a line, a message or reply to the post and I shall get back to you as soon as I can.

Kind regards

Hi Guys,

My little brother is looking for an Omega estate to lug around his music equipment over the summer time - he likes sound of mine, but I'm not looking to get rid of it just yet.

So, something with long MOT, tax (preferably) and not completely rubbish. A diesel would be OK, a 2.0 or 2.5 more likely though.

He is in Newcastle, but I am in Cambridge and our folks are in Lincs so we have got most areas covered.

He is looking to purchase pretty soon, so please let me know if you have anything of interest.

Thanks!  :D

Cleaned the car so thought would be good a time as any to share it with the world!!

Only had it since Jan but am really impressed, got a few jobs on the go with it (see help forums!), other than that its a good laugh in the rain and drags anything behind it!!
Enjoy!

General Car Chat / Power Steering Fluid
« on: 10 July 2009, 10:16:35 »
Hi guys,

My power steering has been playing up of late, sometimes getting stuck on the lock when reversing out of spaces etc. Checked the fluid level and I think it is very low - just touching the bottom of the dipstick cap thingy.

What should I fill it up with? Not had to top up before and don't have the manual!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA Platty  :y

Thanks are in order for Welung666.

This gent went out of his way to retrieve a load cover part from his garage and post it to me... and then would not accept any money for it  :-[

This is what the sort of action that makes this forum the great place it is and I thank you again for helping me get this little problem sorted!  :y

General Discussion Area / Student Loan Interest rate

[big rant]

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/news/2009/05/government-fails-to-honour-student-

The bleeding Gov't are at it again! Student Loans are supposed to track RPI interest rates so that they have effectively no cost, but they have decided that all post '98 loans should not have a rate set.

In other words we should be seeing the loans diminish as the price of everything else does - but no we are getting shafted instead.

Very, very random.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140318922902&viewitem=&salenotsupported

Q&A is brilliant though!

Unashamedly stolen from ABS  :-[

... and what a strange experience it was too! Once they had drained their pint I started to get very sweaty and faint  :-[ they had to put cold cloths on me and all sorts - has anyone else had this?

Other than my funny turn it wasn't too bad really. I hope it is of some use to someone!

Friend of mine has just had the gearbox let go on his 56 plate Astra and I am just looking to see whether it viable to do a DIY replacement. The car is out of warranty so not many options other than trousers down at Vx.

Does anyone know the 'box model number? (eg F17, F20 etc.)
