General Car Chat / Nissan Note
« on: 23 August 2013, 19:53:08 »
Whats up with the people that buy these - or is it the cars that don't go over 50mph? Got stuck behind loads recently, and when you do get the chance to overtake they try and baulk you and wave their fists!  There seems to be more and more on the roads,

Even got behind one on the M1 the other day, driving straddled the middle and outside lanes at 50mph.  When I managed to squeeze by him, he waved his fist at me and the queue behind me.  Where's a copper when you need one.

And to cap it all there was one of the buggers blocking my double drive when I got in this morning - plenty of room to park elsewhere.  Managed to find the owner and gave him a mouthful!  Idiots.

Omega General Help / Wipers - parking position
« on: 04 August 2013, 15:26:15 »
Wipers on the '03 Estate not self parking in correct position - now parking about a 1/3rd of the way up the screen.
Seem to remember to fix you need to align two arrows and retighten a locknut - is this roughly correct?
Seem to remember pics as well (Rob) ;)

Anyone done this - would appreciate clarification on correct procedure (no issues in removing wipers and scuttle)

Thanks

General Discussion Area / Sad Memories
« on: 14 July 2013, 23:14:53 »
Just watched GP:The Killer Years on BBC4, and saw the distressing video of a good friend of mine, Roger Williamson, being burned to death at the F1 Dutch GP at Zandvoort in '73.  It was beyond belief watching it again to see marshals standing about just looking, doing nothing, only David Purley trying everything to save Roger.  The accident was caused by a blown tyre, and he was more or less unhurt - he died of asphyxiation trapped underneath a burning overturned car.

Used to race Roger many moons ago at Mallory Park, and other circuits, back in the late '60s - his Holbay Anglia against my 1293 "S" - had some interesting "coming togethers", and managed to beat him a few times.

Very, very sad - the loss of a potentially future F1 champion. :( :(

General Discussion Area / Insurance result
« on: 13 May 2013, 20:27:20 »
Got my renewal quote for the Jag last week - up 20% on last year.  Now got 3 other quotes on as near as damnit same basis - 1 in particular very competitive.  Contacted my current long term insurer (Direct Line) and got put through to their "loyalty dept" (I've been with them for years and have another car insured with them).  They checked my details and said they had no information about my speeding conviction back in Jan 2012, despite me being able to give them the date I advised them of it and the name of the guy I spoke to, plus offered to forward a copy of my letter of confirmation of that phone conversation.  Guy stated that my renewal premium was now + a further £100, to cover next years policy plus monies I owed them for not advising that offence (SP30) at the time!  Said not my problem they couldn't enter correct info onto their database, and in view of competitive quotes on original renewal premium, was looking for a premium reduction (that worked last year).  Guy said I'll cancel your renewal then, and seemed extremely suprised when I said OK consider it cancelled at the end of current policy (think I called his bluff).  Brilliant customer service from the Customer Loyality Dept!!

Now got follow on policy set up, better conditions, from Churchill saving me approx £130/annum off original renewal premium.  Will be cancelling renewal on other car with Direct Line at end of policy.

Short sighted of Direct Line as there have been no claims on either policy in last 20 years.

Now paying less than £300/annum, fully comp, protected ncb, legal cover etc on the Jag, with further discounting when other car transferred to Churchill.

Reasonable result I think

Omega General Help / Wiper Problem
« on: 08 February 2013, 18:13:54 »
Have a problem with the wipers on the Estate.  They are tending to become entangled.  The drivers side wiper when parked feels rigid and normal but the passenger side is less rigid and can be moved either up or own without too much effort.  Has something come loose, and can it just be tightened, or am I looking at a more drastic solution?  Help appreciated :y

General Discussion Area / Christmas - now you know
« on: 12 December 2012, 16:25:15 »
When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure.

Mrs. Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more.

When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where.

Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to  the ground and all the toys were
scattered.

Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drunk all the cider and hidden the liquor.

In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen
floor. He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom.

Just then the doorbell rang, and an irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.

The angel said very cheerfully, 'Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?

And thus began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.  :y

The oldies are still good'uns ;)
