General Discussion Area / B17, Sad!
« on: 15 June 2011, 08:17:22 »
Leading on from Guffers 'Infection Control' thread, I saw this on his link page. Another bit of Aviation History lost, though there may be some salvage there for use on other warbirds. :(

Ljay's original post has slipped down to page 2 and is in danger of being overlooked! :o
Please find it in your hearts to donate to this very worthy cause by supporting the lass in her endeavour. Remember 1 in 3 of us will be directly affected by Cancer in one form or another during our lifetime! God forbid, it should be you or a Loved one, it's time this filthy disease was conquered :(

Some bloke blew himself up in his Nissan Micra at 3am this morning on Hartlepool Headland!  :o
Talk is, the explosive was a chemical homemade mix & Police have also cordoned off the local Marina where he apparently lived in a flat above a restaurant bar as there are fears there may be more stockpiled there. There are all sorts of rumours flying about that the guy has set booby traps at various sites in the Town and myself & swmbo had to collect our Granddaughter from the Headland school where we had dropped her off a few hours previously as it was being evacuated. I don't know the reasons behind this incident, but it is very sad that a man has found himself with no other way to appease his demons than to take his life in such a way. I sincerely hope the rumour & rhetoric is  just that, & nothing else :-/
My main thoughts are with the Police Officers & Paramedics 1st on the scene who have been exposed to the chemicals & are now quarantined in hospital! They & their families will be in for a worrying few hours methinks!  :(

General Discussion Area / Jokes 'Sticky'
« on: 08 April 2011, 21:46:35 »
I don't know what others feel about the 'Sticky' section for jokes, but I personally think it doesn't do the jokes or 'jokers' justice. I much prefered it when the jokes littered GenDis at odd intervals. What do others think? :-?

General Discussion Area / Optimist or Pessimist?
« on: 17 February 2011, 13:10:16 »
Random Thoughts:

1 Life is sexually transmitted.

2 The difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.

3 Healthy is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.

4 In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.

5 All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.

Change is Not Always Better

There's an old sea story about a ship's Captain who inspected his crew, and afterward told the first mate that his men smelled terrible! The Captain suggested perhaps it would help if the sailors changed their underwear occasionally.

The first mate responded, "Aye, aye sir, I'll see to it immediately!"

The first mate went straight to the sailors mess and announced, "The Captain thinks you bods smell rotten and wants you to change your underwear." He continued, "Chalky, you change with Knocker, Tug, you change with Salty, and Buster, you change with the Buffer. Now GET TO IT!"

THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS: Someone may come along and promise "Change", but don't count on things smelling any better.  ;)

General Discussion Area / Stupidity & Ignorance from Artic Driver!
« on: 10 February 2011, 18:05:00 »
Around 16:00hrs I was travelling behind a Luton type van on a narrow single carriageway road into the Town Centre when the traffic in front of me stopped dead both ways & stayed that way for several minutes. Must be a jam up ahead, or the lights are staying on red a bit longer than usual I thought? Next thing is a young bloke walking down the middle of the road waving a sheaf of papers at me! :o What the F...lip is he upto I thought, & my 1st instinct was to not open my window, but he looked like he needed help so I rolled it down to have the papers shoved at me & a heavy European accent (possibly Polish?) asking me 'where was this place'? After telling him he was going the wrong way & giving directions how to get to his drop off place he disappeared without so much as a smile & the traffic began moving again. It turned out this guy was driving an Artic with a flatbed full of steel box sections & he'd just stopped it in the middle of the road blocking both lanes while he ran up & down the lines of stalled traffic trying to find someone who could tell him where his drop off was! >:( But wait!....it gets better ::) about 400 yards further on the traffic all stopped again only this time several of us got out of our cars to see what was going on, and bugger me if the same guy hadn't just swung his tractor across the junction @ the lights, forcing everyone to a halt while he did a THREE POINT TURN!! :o  It was a bit comical seeing everyone stopped at all the sets of lights trying to back up out of his way, but Jees, you had to be there to half believe your own eyes! Best part was he was driving a British wagon! :-/
