Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Wanted: X20XEV cylinder head
« on: 07 September 2014, 18:34:39 »
Guys, after discovering that my Omega appears to have the early signs of head gasket failure or cracked cylinder head, I have decided to look for a spare X20XEV cylinder head to refurbish in my spare time, ready to swap over when I decide fit.

Has anybody got one they want to get rid of that is in reasonably good condition?

I want to keep the costs down, so not really looking at paying more than about £50 tbh, excluding postage or me to collect if i can.

Any helpers?

Mods: possible to move to the Wanted Section?

Omega General Help / Slight misfire
« on: 28 August 2014, 21:11:34 »
Guys

Just after a second opinion if I may please?

Randomly, and only when starting from cold, i.e. overnight or left all day @ work, the car starts fine but has a slight misfire for a few seconds, which stays if you rev the engine lightly. It then clears itself and runs fine. It does not do it every day, or even every time you start. Weather does not appear to make much difference to likelihood of it happening.

Water level is not going down, the spark plugs are recently changed and when removed, were dry and evenly coloured. Fuel economy is good (23-25mpg round town and 40mpg+ on a run.

The car is an X20XEV MFL with slushbox.

There is no water in the oil, it does not appear to smoke from the exhaust. Short of me dragging it into work for a sniffer test to confirm headgasket situation, or swapping HT leads out for new set (have not checked on an ohms check, but may do over the weekend).

Thoughts?

General Car Chat / X20XEV cambelt kits
« on: 17 July 2014, 12:06:27 »
Guys, just a quick heads-up for anyone with the X20XEV engine and uses Trade Club.

Genuine cambelt kits for these are not available in Europe at the moment as the one I have ordered with WJ Kings has gone back order and their system is showing nil stock.

I will let you know when they can give me a date on it.

Omega General Help / Graunching noise
« on: 15 June 2014, 14:52:31 »
Can anyone else confirm my suspicions on a graunching-type noise from the front of the car when going over speedbumps. It sounds to me to be like it is coming from the topmounts, but I have taken the antiroll bar bushes off today and greased them up with some copper-slip and the front wishbone bushes are already polybushed (could be going dry I suppose).

Handles fine, etc... just this annoying noise that I can hear over the radio. I do now drive over quite a few speed bumps to and from work, but do not race over them.

Springs are fine and unbroken, nothing else seems out of place and there are no other clonks that I do not already know about.

Omega General Help / Tech II Information Help
« on: 15 June 2014, 14:44:23 »
Guys, bit of a follow up from my previous posts, but I am after some guidance on the information and procedures from the following photo if possible please.

Car is as avatar, 1997/8 MFL estate (chassis date code W)

On this picture the glass break wires are showing as connected (can visually verify that) but it is showing the glass breakage as disabled? I am guessing that means deactivated? If so, how can I turn it back on? I have been through the menus but cannot find anything for changing from saloon to estate for example.

Also, the only fault code that appears on the diagnostics of the anti-theft system is that the horn is disconnected (yes, I threw the power-sounder away). Can I programme that out? The reason for this is that when I arm the car, the LED on the ultrasonics disable switch flashes fast as detecting a fault. That bugs me.

Omega General Help / Autobox Software
« on: 10 June 2014, 21:21:42 »
Hi guys, I understand that there are different software levels for the automatic gearboxes as discussed on this forum many a time..

Am I still correct in saying that version 9 is the highest level? Mine is as per info on the left.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / P0100
« on: 09 June 2014, 06:26:21 »
Just wondering if anyone else has come across this issue before....

My X20XEV MFL was parked out in the carpark at work all day Friday and when I came back to it she was rather "warm" with the sun being on her for most of the day. Started the car up and the EML came on. Muttered a few obscenities and turned off and back on again. Light stayed off until I pulled away about 20ft then the car jumped a couple of times and the EML came back on.

I was taking it into the workshop at work anyway as I wanted to check the a/c (turns out the HP valve was weeping very slightly in the plastic ball), so parked it on the ramp for an hour and a half in the shade. Left the workshop and the light went out within 30 seconds and has not come on since. Got home and put my Autel EU702 diag tool on and only code is P0100, MASS sensor malfunction (or similar wording).

Sensor just getting too hot maybe?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Autodimming Mirror Issue
« on: 04 April 2014, 16:35:53 »
Guys, I have one of the auto dimming interior mirrors retro-fitted into my CDX Estate (1998 model) but since fitting the shades into the back, I have found that the mirror starts in the clear position but quickly moves to the semi-dimmed position once the ignition is turned on.

I have had the unit apart and there is a dip switch with "high" and "low" positions. From factory, it appears to be set in the "low" position. Removing the switch, or putting it into the "high" position seems to make the mirror work again.

Any idea what it is actually for?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Phone symbol on MID
« on: 11 February 2014, 21:51:25 »
Has anybody got any information on the wiring for the phone symbol on a MFL CDX with the "normal" MID?

I am thinking of getting the phone symbol to work with my in-car kit as most of it is hidden and a couple of times the radio has gone quiet for a couple of seconds before the phone starts to ring and I start to look for something to have stopped working before realising what has happened.

Probably seems like a silly thing, but it is just a weird thought I am having at the moment  :D

Meetings, gatherings, parties etc / More meets?
« on: 19 September 2013, 14:34:15 »
Is anybody having any more meets in the Essex/Kent area this year as I seem to be at work when all the other ones have been on.

I have only made it to the last Kent meet so far, and that was only because it was 15 minutes drive from work. Even then, I got there about 30 minutes before everyone left as I could not make it until almost 1.30pm.

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Fog Lamps
« on: 22 April 2013, 07:37:55 »
Does anybody know a good place to get m/f/l front fog lamps from as I need a replacement n/s/f one due to a 4mm hole and cracked glass, so may well get a couple of sets as I suspect I will be needing them over time with the motorway driving I now do.

I would put a post up in the Sales section but, as a newbie, not enough posts yet

edit: or if anyone with some spare is going to the Kent meet this coming weekend and will be there after 1pm, let me know a price and I will see what I can do.

Omega Gallery / Few bits to the workhorse
« on: 20 April 2013, 20:39:07 »
Thought I'd give the old girl a good clean up this month as I've had her 3 months and done over 5000 miles in that time.

As I purchased her in January

Once cleaned of the dirt, body condition could be seen properly

Bit of time with the 3M and GTechniq gear and a rotary and we have

Omega General Help / Traction Control
« on: 02 February 2013, 17:58:55 »
Hi guys, I have read through the TC threads that the Search facility throws up, but they all appear to be for FL or V6 motors.

Mine is a 1997/8 Mini Facelift (produced 18th Sept 1997) X20XEV estate CDX. I know everybody says that TC is not needed on the 4-pot cars, but some of the roads I drive are a little bit slippery (out in the country a bit) and all on national speed limit roads and the back has skipped a little a few times, plus a couple of times on roundabouts with the salt and rubbish on them. Slowing down on some of these roads is just as dangerous as too many lunatics race down them even faster and almost tailgate you. I have the spare slot next to the drivers heated seat button and it looks like the wiring may be there, so what would be required to swap it all over to the TC variety? Replacement ECU? Switch? Wiring? Plus, I like to have ALL options on my cars and a spare blank to me is just something waiting to be filled.
