General Discussion Area / WEF
« on: 13 August 2022, 10:38:27 »
Just wondering how many on here are aware of the World Economic Forum (behind the annual Davos meeting) – that globalist organisation led by Klaus Schwab that claims that by 2030, "You’ll own nothing” — And “you’ll be happy about it.” The Great Reset.

It wants to cut meat from our diets and promotes eating of bugs to "save the climate". It believes that private car ownership should be banned. Worst of all, Yuval Harari, an advisor to Schwab this week stated we simply “don’t need the vast majority of the population,” and called for human beings to be replaced by machines whenever possible, saying that beyond producing data, people are just no longer “useful” to the global elite and their agenda. https://americanfaith.com/wef-advisor-says-global-elite-dont-need-the-vast-majority-of-the-population-to-live/

Now you may think this is all tin-foil hat stuff, but Schawb has boasted about infiltrating many western governments. So who are members of the WEF? Well, a long list includes Truss, Johnson, Sunak, Trudeau, Zelensky, Ardern (NZ), Rutte (NL) and even the Finnish PM.

Among those who have publicly denounced globalism are Trump and Putin. Both of whom are targets for the elite.

None of this, of course, is reported on the BBC, ITV, SKY etc. Most folk will be happy watching Strictly and ignore what's going on in the shadows. ::) ::)

General Discussion Area / Keeping the house cooler

Funny how people throw their windows open on a hot day. ::)

Trick is to close the curtains/blinds on the sun-facing side and keep all window and doors closed.

A short while ago it was 32c outside and only 24c inside my home. Not great, but bearable. :y

Getting a tad too frequent.

No doubt they'll try and blame climate change. ::)

Nothing to do with the batteries. No, sir, nothing to with that. ;D

Omega General Help / Hen's tooth quest
« on: 17 June 2022, 12:14:48 »
One of my radiator covers recently got damaged. >:(

It proved easy and not too expensive to locate a brand new part. :y
However, I can't fit the new cover as the small metal clip in the slam panel is missing. It was easy to find the part number (90469435) but it has proved impossible to locate one. I've tried breakers and got nowhere - there seem to be few Omegas being broken and I think they can't be bothered as it's so small, even though I have also requested a scuttle panel at the same time. Even the myriad of auto clips on eBay don't come close to this little b*stard. I guess I'll have to think up a bodge, though I'd prefer to keep original parts where possible.

General Car Chat / Truly UGLY cars
« on: 08 June 2022, 19:59:12 »
On taking the pooch for a walk last night, I came across a new Kia Soul.

It has to be one of the ugliest cars ever to have darkened our roads. It's on a par with the Fiat Multipla – maybe even worse. :o

Is it a contender for the world's ugliest car?  ???

Omega General Help / Halfords
« on: 25 May 2022, 19:24:31 »
OK, I know what you are all going to say, but it seemed very convenient to me to book my car in for MoT at my local Halfords. ::)

After all James' work, I thought it would be a breeze...but no.

They failed it on 'Headlight aim too far to the right offside front". OK, maybe it was but it's passed two previous MoTs elsewhere and I can't see the beam moving about if not touched. Anyhow, now hopefully corrected.

BUT they also failed it on "Shock absorber has a serious fluid leak Offside Rear" and ditto nearside rear.

They quoted £327.86 for the replacement of the two shock absorbers!

The last two MoTs have given advisories about light dusting of oil and I've done very little mileage in the last 2 years.

Anyhow, James once again came to the rescue. :y :y He was appalled, as was I, since, when we had the wheels off there was no evidence of a "serious" leak. In fact, no evidence of a leak at all (see pics, if they upload).

I'll get it retested and hopefully get a pass. THEN...I shall hit the roof. >:(

As stated, would like a passenger side radiator cover (preferably with the little metal bit in the slam panel into which the plastic panel screw locates.

Also, would like a driver's side scuttle panel.

Living in hope...   ;)

Omega General Help / Help! Error code P1700
« on: 29 April 2022, 19:59:08 »
As per subject line, I have a 2.6V^ auto with  error code 1700 which is a transmission fault, I think.

SWMBO used the car during the week for a longish, uneventful drive. When I went to move it yesterday, I got the dreaded engine warning light up. I turned everything off and a few goes later, the engine light went out and I re-parked the car. Today, I jumped in to go to the shops and was unable to get the light out and it appears to be in limp mode. Called the AA and the man got the 1700 code through the pedal test (his OBD reader wouldn't recognise the car!!).

The car has done 82k miles from new and had the transmission oil and filter changed aboout 15k miles ago.

Any ideas what the fault could be? Seems a bit terminal to me.  :'( :'(

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Replacing rear speakers
« on: 03 March 2022, 16:12:52 »
Despite posting about speakers last year, I have still to replace the buzzing one in the back.
As a Christmas present, I got a pair of Pioneer 13cm speakers, apparently with the correct adaptors.
I finally decided to take the plunge last weekend and took the door card off, in hope that it would be a straightish swap. However, the new speaker did not fit nicely flush into the adaptor and, it would appear, I will need to do a fair bit of drilling to get the adaptor onto the inside of the door and i cannot see how it will fit nicely given metal moulding of the door skin.
I questioned the vendor whether I had been sent the right adaptors (they were packed separately) and was assured they were.
Seems like an awful faff.  ::)
If anyone who has swapped rear speakers could offer any advice, it would be gratefully received.
Ta in advance.

Omega General Help / Engine recon?
« on: 16 October 2021, 20:53:32 »
I am idly wondering about my 02 2.6V6 with 81k miles on the clock.

It's a lovely car and I only do a few thousand miles a year in it. However, it has always had the blue smoke problem of those iffy valve stem seals that Vauxhall fitted in 2001-02 and now I have a slight oil leak somewhere (noted as an advisory in the last MoT).

I'm a tad too old to fix anything myself (and don't have my own driveway or garage), so i was wondering whether it would be worth having someone recondition the engine. Yes, it would cost a few bob, but whether or not I keep it, I would hate to see it ending up in a crusher. It's completely rust-free, full leather and so on and drives like a dream.

Is it worth considering? And can anyone recommend an engine recon person who actually knows about these engines and cares about doing a good job?

As I said, I'm just idly considering options...

One of my rear door speakers buzzes on bass tones, so I guess it's time for a replacement. I'm not a huge audiophile, but obviously want to replace these OEM speakers as they nearing the end of their life.

Question is: Can anyone recommend a particular set of speakers that are reasonable, in terms of audio quality, price and, lastly, ease of fitment.

Thanks in advance!

Omega General Help / Sticky hazard button
« on: 04 August 2021, 20:55:09 »
I guess we all have this problem with the hazard button. After a few years, the rubberised coating starts to become tacky to the touch and attracts dust and dirt.

This is a problem with many cars (I understand even Ferraris have this rubber coating on some switches).

Does anyone know a way of getting rid of the stickiness?  ???

Omega General Help / OSF scuttle cleaning
« on: 03 August 2021, 16:14:03 »
Decided to fit a new pollen filter to the car and made the mistake of looking down beneath the filter. It was full of damp crud. :(

Eventually, after suffering a scraped arm, I managed to clear much of it out, but it still needs good clean.

I checked out OOF's maintainance guides and tried unblocking the drain hole using heavy cable and various other implements. No joy. It seems to be unlike the one on the drivers side and, to the feel, it seems like a blank grommet, which doesn't allow water to escape. Am I missing something?   :-\
