Omega General Help / 1995 omega mv6 hesitant when setting off
« on: 28 March 2015, 00:22:51 »
Got a problem with my 3 litre omega. If the engine is semiwarm (just stopped somewhere for 10 mins to a couple og hours)the revs will drop slightly when accelerating from idle. Put it in D and push the accelerator and nothing happens. Revs drop to around 200-300 rpm. Give it somemore throttle and after a few seconds it will rip the rear wheels loose and set of fast. When coasting right after start on semi warm engine it may also stall under light throttle. When engine gets properly warm, problem dissapears. Also when engine is stonecold it is fine. Hard acceleration and driving at speed is working perfectly under any condition. Just when stopping for a short while it will not give any revs when setting off from idle, before after a few seconds it pulls away like mad when it suddenly reacts to the throttle. Any ideas?

Omega General Help / Ignored oof advice, omega caught fire!
« on: 04 February 2015, 19:30:30 »
Hi. Omega 3 litre 1995 been running fine all winter. This morning it absolutely wouldnt start. Starter ran fine but wouldnt fire. Was -20c and low on fuel. Had to pull start the old sierra to Get to work. This evening i filled 10 litres from a can on the omega and a little drygas. Used jumpleads from the Ford. Didnt help at all. Starter ran fine but no life. Then i used start gas. Have done so many times successfully. But no it just fired once, then a loud bang and the start gas ignited in the bagpipes. (disconnected just after the air filter box) flames where burning out of the air intake pipe and would not go out. Guess the start gas burned and then the plastic pipe caught fire. Had to use a fire extingisher in the intake pipe:(

2 questions:
- whats most likely the reason it wouldnt start?
- is my engine now garbage? Dont see much fire damage, but the extingisher powder is probably all over the engine insides...

Omega General Help / Fuel pump sucks the tank flat
« on: 26 December 2014, 21:51:14 »
Hi. I've got a new problem with my 94 Opel omega mv6 estate. The fuel pump sucks the tank flat when running. After driving for a couple of hours the car will just stop. Open the fuel filler and air comes rushing in to the tank. Then the car starts right up again. On inspection the tank is caving in (imploding) when looking under the car. Guessing this means the venting system is not working. So a couple of questions.
Is there some easy way to disconnect a hose to the Carbon canister or something so it just vents to atmosphere? Does this create a fire hazard?
How does the tank venting system work? And what is the most likely problem?
How do i straighten the fuel tank out again? Compressed air through a hose to the tank?

The reason i want a temporary Quick fix is that the temperature in norway these days is -25 celsius and does not invite to much car repair:) any help is welcome.

Hi. My mid suddenly decided to stay awake all the time. Works fine when driving, but stays on when ignition off and key out. Lights all night and shows temperature an clock/radio. Tried disconnecting radio but it still stays on. Thought maybe there is a problem with the ignition lock? Tried it and found that the horn works with ignition off. Is this normal on omega? Im not sure but i seem to remember that the horn didnt use to work without ignition on?

Omega General Help / 95 omega door lock problem
« on: 18 October 2014, 10:34:52 »
Ive got a problem with the door locks. Its the old infrared remote system and locking/unlocking/deadlock works fine with the fob, also works fine with key in the door. The problem is that sometimes when the car is unlocked i cannot push the door pins down to lock. All doors seem to be "frozen" with door pins up. They wont move. Other times the pins on all doors can easily be pushed down. But then they will be "frozen" in the locked position. I can Get the pins up again by pulling up the front passenger pin. Then all four comes up no problem. But if i try to pull up driver door pin or either back door they wont move. In either case all doors respond fine to fob and key in door. Is it the driver door motor or some switch in driver door thats the problem?

Hi. I've now almost successfully swapped the mid on my late 1994 omega. Rewired it from the old yellow and black plug to the new grey plug mid. Thanks to great help from this forum everything now works except the range. It got the right programcode now, an i have checked the wires many times. What happens is that on a full tank it will show a range of about 270 km. This will drop to 0 when i have about 45 litres left, and after that it just shows range F. After searching the internet i found this was a common problem on older omegas and i saw a guy saying it was a difference in the fuel sender units on older cars. After checking a parts suppliers website i saw there was a different kind of fuel sender unit up to chassisnr S105*****. (sometime in 1995) mine is late 1994 and well before the change in sender units. Different signal from old and new senders they say. Since i really dont wanna change both the sender unit and the clocks i was considering adding a resistance to the fuel level wire to the mid to Get the signal inside the range its expecting.

Do anybody know the ohm ranges on the old and new fuel sender units for the omega estate?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Mid code 95 omega with 98'ish mid?
« on: 25 September 2014, 22:22:33 »
Hi. I've upgraded my 1995 Opel omega mv6 estate from the old black and yellow connector pixellated mid to the newer grey connector mid. Got everything working and went to Opel to have it reorogrammed. The prog nr that was on the display was 008. After opels reprogramming it shows nr 020. But i still think its wrong. The car is a 3 litre automatic estate with normal minifacelift headlights. Not xenon. The mid shows headlight adjustment when i start the car. Cant this be taken away with the right program? Also the range shows around 270 km with full tank and when theres around 50 liters left in the tank (2/3 tank) it goes to zero range and after that just shows range F. Is there different programming for estate and sedan? Since the tanks are different? Also the fuel consumption on the mid is much lower than with the old mid. Can anyone with tech2 experience give me some advice on this?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Coolant level warning new mid
« on: 19 September 2014, 18:08:01 »
Hi. I have changed my old pixelated mid with yellow and black connector for a newer type mid with grey connector. It works but i have a few issues. One is range just shows F. I guess reprogramming it will cure that as its a used display. But what i cant undersstand is that i constantly have coolant level warning in the new display. I have found a brown wire with blue stripe that is grounded when the expantion tank sensor is plugged in, and not grounded when i unplug the expantion tank. This wire is connected to pin 28 on the new display. According to haynes and help from this forum pin 28 is the correct pin for the coolant level. I hav also tried to ground pin 28 directly but still Get the coolant warning. I cant see that the correct tech 2 programming will fix this? Is there a fault in the new display or am i missing something here? Any help will be greatly appreciated as Im getting quite frustrated with this problem now:p

I have a 95 omega with the old type mid. The kind with one black and one yellow connector on the back. The display has the typical missing pixels and its only four years old. Really dont want to pay Opel insane amount of money for a new display which will probably only last a couple of years. Is it possible to fit a newer type mid with just the one grey connector just by modifying the connectors or will there be compability/programming issues? Radio is pioneer afternarket with a display adaptor. Is the newer type mid less prone to pixel failure? All info welcome:)

Omega General Help / Abs/tc cuts out
« on: 09 February 2014, 10:19:46 »
Hi. Slippery roads in norway these days. My 95 Opel omega mv6 got some problem with the abs. Normally Works fine, but if the abs have to work for more than a few seconds it cuts out. The abs light and tc light will come on. Wont go out again, unless i switch the ignition off and on again. Then the lights go out and everything is fine. To sum up: abs Works fine when it just have to work for a few moments, if it has to work for more than 3 sec it cuts out. Ecu or something else?

General Car Chat / Omega sl shocks on monza
« on: 16 July 2013, 00:03:14 »
Hi. Im fixing my old 86 Opel Monza gse. Need new rear shocks. It has a self levelling system that its impossible to find the right shocks for. Could go for standard shocks but was wondering if omega self levelling shocks might work? The system looks very similar. And wouldnt the Monza levelling sensor adjust the omega shocks to the correct height anyway suposing they are at least remotely similar in lenght? The weight of the Monza is around 1500 kgs so just slightly lighter than an omega. Will ofcourse have to check that the lenght of the shock is somewhat in the right range, but is it a fair asumption that it would work, or an i missing something?

Omega General Help / Knocking v6
« on: 28 March 2013, 19:18:39 »
Hi. My 95 omega 3,0v6 started knocking quite heavily today. Noticed it was misfiring a bit about 30 km from home. This went away then a few km later the usual lifter ticking ive had got more noticeable. Then suddenly it felt like something snapped in the engine and there was a distinct drop of power. The power came back so er drove the last km to our destination but with a very loud metallic knocking sound from the engine. The sound follows the revs and seems to come from top of the left bank. Cambelt and rocker gaskets changed about a month ago. Could it be a lifter thats suddenly failed completely? Or any other ideas?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Part no wiper relay
« on: 23 January 2013, 16:15:46 »
Hi. Have installed a wiper stalk with a wheel on it to Get variable intermittent wipe on my 1995 omega who just had a fixed delay. Have hooked up the stalk as pr the guide on this forum. Wiper relay was located in cabin fusebox However and not in the engine bay. The original relay gm90069864 allowed the delay between wipes to vary from ca 8-12 sec with the new stalk. Got a new relay 6238616 and delay now vary from 6 to 16 sec. Have i still got the wrong relay? Thought the minimum delay should be less. If anyone with variable delay wipers could check the part no it would be much appreciated:)

Edit: suspect the correct one might be 1238526?

Hi i live in norway and have a 94 Opel omega mv6 estate. Got a problem with the alarm. It works but the interior sensors does not. Also the little red light flashes rapidly the first ten seconds when armed. Which according to the handbook means a system failure. It should stay on steadily for ten seconds before flashing slowly as normal. The local Opel dealer used their tech2 and they could go through all the cars systems except the alarm. The tech2 just stopped when they tried entering the alarm. After reading theBoy's site i suspect the ir alarm on the 94 model requires a tech1? Is this so? And do the local dealers still have tech1? Any input will be appreciated:)

General Car Chat / Wynns lifter treatment
« on: 03 November 2012, 18:40:17 »
My omega 3,0 v6 have been suffering quite badly from valve ticking/knocking. After reading on this forum about wynns valve treatment i went to my local car accesories shop in norway and amazingly they had it in stock. Bought a can and poured it in without having much faith in it. But by the time i got home the car ran as smooth and quiet as ever:) no more knocking. Very useful product, and a big thanks to all the helpful people on this forum. By far the best omega resource ive come across online:)
