General Car Chat / Not been on for a while
« on: 29 June 2009, 17:05:11 »
Hi all hav'nt been on for a while due to my health etc as started chemo 3 weeks ago &  feel a bit crap after it and also end up nodding off on the computer hardly able to stay awake some nights.
Anyway not doing too badly dunno how much good its doing yet as its too early to say at this stage but apart from feeling sickly some times i'm ok, not driving much either as i feel strange as if I could drop off at the wheel so unless someone with me constantly chatting to me i dont venture out !
Ciao Billy

4 THINGS YOU PROBABLY NEVER KNEW YOUR MOBILE PHONE COULD DO

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone! can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:

FIRST                                    Emergency

The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out. (No, don’t! DLW)

SECOND             Have you locked your keys in the car?

Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone.
Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).
Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a mobile phone!'

THIRD                             Hidden Battery Power

Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time.

FOURTH           How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?

To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone * # 0 6 #
A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM car! d, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

This is the kind of information people don't mind receiving, so pass it on to your family and friends

I think really the business of anyone getting work done by a member & paying is fine and should carry on this way, as some jobs do take a lot of time & effort, but we shouldnt need to worry about insurance etc in these circumstances for helping repair other members cars.
I know if i were having some member work on mine at a meet or where ever & we had agreed a fee if anything went wrong I would just say I had done it on my own or with help of friend and money would never ever be mentioned there is no need , obviously if thats your own business then totally different guide lines i suppose.
Having being going to do my V6 cambelt since taking it off the road last year I have only been waiting for warmer weather & my health to improve, but sadly as you know things have got a lot worse since 2008.
I probably would have paid or asked for help at the York meet to get it done as have all the kit/locking kit too but realised rather too late I need the cam cover doing too & didnt have time to get any from the VX dealers , so didnt bother even starting the job plus felt like shit, (health wise)so I'm just sitting on the V6 Elite Est hoping I improve if not the kits will be sold with the car depending on the results of my recent biopsy/scan..
But back to the needing insurance guys to cover jobs we/you do on members cars is surely not needed as we are a group/club and it ends there.
Just my 10cents on this aspect :y

Hi all
Well as some of you will recall I have had stomach & back pains for some time now, I was sent to hospital  April 14 th for blood tests & scans and sadly the CT scan done on the 21st showed up that I have Cancer in the pancreas (a very bad place evidentally) as having visited the specialist today; I was told its not possible to surgically remove the cancer, the best I can hope for is chemotherapy but I still need a final test as to find out what type of cancer it is and as to how to treat it. My family are obviously stunned as after recovering great from my heart surgery in Jan things were looking great and i felt fitter than for years.
Anyway will keep you posted as to how it goes and quite possibly will be looking for buyer for my 1998 Elite Est, i will be posting details shortly as wont be needing it in any case can just use the 2.0 l which as just been mot'd
By for now

Billy
PS might manage to get to York one afternoon if pain not too bad  :(

Hi guys & gals well after having a really bad weekend (pains etc) I went to Gp again on Tuesday morning this time the Dr referred me to hospital ( sort of A&E but no queuing) ended up been kept in till today 3 nights !! they did several tests but as yet have not found the cause, I do not have a ulcer after all, (GP's  were sure) ?? but they have given me some tablets that do stop the pain, was on morphine several times in there as that stops it too, but the consultant insists we need to find the cause had more blood tests & got to go back see him in 2 weeks kinell :(
