Omega General Help / Should I buy a Tech2 or OBD CAN scanner?
« on: 28 September 2006, 22:41:17 »
I'm thinking of buying a Tech2 interface with R232 cable & software for £45 - does anyone know if I can get one cheaper.  Alternative is a OBD CAN code reader/reset for about £30 but not sure if codes will mean much to you guys when faults appear.  Any thoughts?? ::)

Omega General Help / Rough running when cold
« on: 22 September 2006, 22:07:37 »
My 2003 2.2CD Petrol (manual) has started running lumpy when cold. Initial idle is rough and feels like a cylinder is misfiring intermittantly for the first 5 mins then runs aok. Garage changed the temperature sender and tech reports weak mixture at the lambda sensor. EML is on all the time now and it runs smooth but what should I look at first to fix. Car has 41k and timing belt was changed + rollers at 40k with service inc new plugs.  No flat spots at any other speed. Never stalled at idle. Ran for 200 miles on BP Ultimate after EML cancelled then flashed up again when started from cold next day. Garage doesn't want me to throw good money after bad but thinks problem may be leaking manifold - any ideas experts?

Meetings, gatherings, parties etc / Lakes Meet 08
« on: 18 February 2008, 20:59:00 »
I've had some interest in organising another get together on the anniversary of last years successful event.

Let's start of gently with a poll of suitable dates and then we'll start a rolling list when it gathers speed.

Last year was in early June ........

Site yet to be confirmed but I'll pay the owner of Burns Farm a visit and promise her that Guy will pay double this year if it helps secure the site  ;)

Lots of kind offers by PM on what we should bring etc.  No good if we all turn up with BBQ's but no food so I'll start it off.

As I have a caravan, I also have the luxury of a fridge and small freezer so I'll bring 6 eggs and a pack of bacon :y

Ok guys its over to you.............

General Discussion Area / Omega going but I'm staying....
« on: 12 July 2009, 20:20:05 »
The banker in me has finally decided it's not cost effective to keep running my Omega and I'll be swapping it next weekend for a Vw Passat TDI estate.

I know I've not been around for a while (teenage daughter hogging the PC) but I've no intentions of leaving the site and have found a campsite for our meet next year in Keswick http://www.stayinthornthwaite.co.uk/  :y

I have a pal who has an ugly bug - a Fiat Multipla, and he's booked in next week with Kwik Fit to hand over £550  :o

I've done a quick search on the net and found the full system inc cat delivered for £272 from here http://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/search_results.php??1241892132649&se_pc_id=1&se_sc_id=1&se_ft_id=1&se_ma_id=21&se_mo_id=278&se_es_id=19&se_bt_id=0&se_yr_id=54

And here for £117 from the Cat back http://www.cats-direct-shop.co.uk/exhaust-systems.php?recordID=599 and £105 for the cat http://www.cats-direct-shop.co.uk/two-year-catalytic-converter.php?recordID=619 Exhaust is a Timax.

Do you guys have any preferred exhaust suppliers?  :-? Or any experience with either of the above companies?

( Car is a 2003, 1.6 Petrol )

General Discussion Area / Oil Cooler - Meriva
« on: 04 January 2009, 23:34:19 »
Non Omega based tech question about my wife's ill fated Meriva.

I've had mayo problems for 2 years and it's been in and out of Vx during that time but still buggered.

4 weeks ago I took of the rocker cover and cleaned out all the sludge, pipes. hoses, breathers, throttle body and just checked it today and it's full again.

Dip stick is clear and it's not used any coolant to speak of.

I'm gonna trade the thing in but just wondered what you think may be the cause.

HGF, Oil Cooler (if it has one on a 1.4) or something else and what risks do I pose by driving it for another week?

£50 + £15P&P for a new heated seat to replace mine taken from a 2003 CD.

Is this a fair price??

General Discussion Area / Slow computer - please help.
« on: 14 October 2008, 21:07:07 »
My PC is sooooooooooo slow I fear it's inherited another virus.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 with Vista so never gonna win any races but it does it's job ok.

Norton slows it down further but still ok, but now it's pathetic and can take a minute to load a page - in fact it still hasn't loaded all the smilies yet on this one  >:(

I have Spybot, A Squared and Ad Aware and run them regularly but it's no better.

Suggestions please.............
