General Discussion Area / Waste disposal
« on: 28 March 2012, 23:22:52 »
Just seen an add on the telly for a new waste disposal unit called "the insinkerator"  ::) I would have thought this type of device would have been well out of vogue when you consider we are all being encouraged to compost and recycle. Also waste disposal units are being blamed as contributing towards the rat population explosion problem in some areas due to the fact that food waste mixes with oils and fats dumped down the drains and forms a "lovely soup" that coats the sewer walls and the rats feast on. Food for thought?  ???

Omega General Help / Wheel noise help please
« on: 21 March 2012, 16:40:33 »
Hi all, this ones got me stumped :-\ Over the last couple of week my Omega has developed a noise coming from the front offside wheel.
The best way I can describe the noise is a low volume tyre squeal, it is a constant noise that increases and decreases, it also speed up as road speed is increased.
The noise lessens on right hand turning and increases on left hand turning. There appears to be no noise when reversing, the noise is still present when braking.
I have checked the wheel bearing for play and there doesn't appear to be any also when rotated the wheel runs smoothly with no sign of bearing rumble.
The car has not been kerbed the wheel runs true and there is no sign of abnormal tyre wear, also there is no evidence of anything rubbing or catching, other than a slight rubbing of the break pads on the disc. I backed the pads off and road tested it without touching the brakes and the noise was still present.
Can anyone help? this one has really got me scratching my head

TIA
Tony

General Discussion Area / Does red diesel degrade?
« on: 03 March 2012, 20:03:32 »
Evenin' all can anyone inform me if red diesel or any diesel for that matter degrades  in time? I'm aware that petrol does but don't know about diesel. The reason I ask is the boat club that I'm in has got alot in stock from last year, It's used to fuel the tractors that are used to launch the boats.

Omega General Help / Drivers door problems
« on: 08 February 2012, 19:07:32 »
Hi all, got a bit of a problem with my drivers door. Over the last couple of weeks it has decided to open on it's own. It seems to happen when I have gone over a bump. I've checked the latch system for security and everything seems solid, if I try to push the door open with lots of force it seems secure and doesn't budge. The door closes normally from both the inside and outside.

Sh!t myself today went round a tight bend hit a bump door flew open If I had been another three yards further on I would have took out a cyclist who was in the middle of the road waiting to turn right :o :o :o

Any clues please?

General Discussion Area / Woodcare question
« on: 31 January 2012, 20:36:29 »
Hi all, I'm in the middle of refurbishing my kitchen. The units have solid oak doors that have a silk finish varnish coating. Can anyone advise me on the best wax to treat them with to protect them and also to fill some small inperfections and cracks that have appeared in the varnish? I have tied Pledge with bees wax, not to impressed though.
Also has anyone had any experience good or bad in using plasticote polyurethane airosol varnish?

TIA

General Discussion Area / Car sale con ?
« on: 13 January 2012, 20:03:59 »
Hi all can anyone enlighten me on a possible con? I seem to recall i've seen this scam posted on the web in the past possibly on OOF but I can't remember the details, probably down to my age  :-\. My son has advertised his car a two hundred and fifty quid motor on Autotrader and has had three similar responses from "potential" buyers. One of which claims to live in Sweden. He stated that he would send a cheque for the full price plus twenty quid if he pulled the advert. He also stated that he would send someone over to collect the car, but not until his cheque payment had been presented and cleared in my lads account. Sounds to good to be true but as stated It's a con but wheres the catch?  :-\

TIA for the answer

General Discussion Area / Putting a bit back
« on: 26 December 2011, 08:12:55 »
Morning all, up early for boxing day, off down to the homeless shelter to do a bit of cheffing, helping out with cooking lunch for about eighty people less fortunate. Did Christmas day last year, it was a great atmosphere in the kitchen. It makes you realise what you have got in this world when you see how little there is in the guests lives.

General Discussion Area / WTF what a waste of money
« on: 08 December 2011, 18:28:52 »
Just seen an item on the BBC news regarding a meeting about the crisis in the euro zone. Hotel staff were setting up for a delegates dinner this evening, finest damask linen clothes being laid out on the tables, china being precisely placed and no doubt the guests will be indulging in some fine food and wine later. WTF >:( in these times of hard financial conditions they should be nippng out to the local takaway to satisfy there hunger not running up huge hotel bills, with the tab being picked up by us. >:( >:( >:(
I'm not one to rant usually but this has really p!ssed me off

P.S rant over
