Cars for Sale & wanted / 1996 Tourer for sale.
« on: 22 April 2011, 00:35:26 »
1996 Vauxhall Omega Tourer, 2.5v6, manual.
Power: 170      Mileage: 86000
Seats: 5      Doors: 5
MOT Expiry: 28th. May 2011
Road Tax: May 2011

I purchased this car last week with a view to selling it on for profit and thought I should at least offer it for sale here on this site first.
I have covered 350 miles in it over the last week and it has performed faultlessly, it is (as they say) too good to scrap!
Everything seems to work as it should, apart from the air-con.
There is no history with the car but it does have all the M.O.T.'s going back to 1999 (41,000 miles)

Below is the advert as written by the previous keeper of the vehicle.
"Much loved Omega Touring reluctantly for sale.
I have had this car for 3 years now and since I have had it spent a fortune on it.
In the last 12 months since the MOT was done I have fitted
New exhaust
New rear discs
New rear pads
New shoes
New rocker covers (genuine vauxhall £200pp)
Front lower suspension arms and had the tracking done
This car has also had prior to the MOT
New front discs
New pads
Steering arms
front tyres New cam belt and tensioner ( Gates belt and pulley/tensioner £150)
Complete top end overhaul
24 new Valves with heads totally rebuilt
If this car needed it I got it !
It also has a leather interior from the Omega Elite although I have not fitted the drivers seat yet or the rear door cards, I have all the switches and the rear electric windows to complete this to bring it up to Elite spec.
The spare tyre has never been fitted and is the original factory tyre
It does have a few problems ( rust on o/s rear arch, both door corners rear and some kindly person opened the door of their car into the drivers door and nicked it slightly.
Forgot to add that the car had a new battery fitted last year also"

The vehicle is missing the original passenger and rear cloth seats and front cloth door cards, these have been replaced with the correct aged leather seats from an Elite model. The matching leather drivers seat and rear door cards were provided by the previous owner and will be installed, should any-one express an interest in the vehicle.

Asking price is £550.
I feel confident she will pass another M.O.T. without any problems, if you want a full M.O.T. then the asking price is £600.
Any questions? Then please get in touch!

I know it's a Peugeot but the back bit more than makes up for it!

Can any-one come up with a reason that would explain this...

I reckon it's got to be down to manufacturing defects, has any-one seen this before?

General Car Chat / Working out M.P.G. and cost per mile.
« on: 08 May 2011, 14:53:47 »
Maths was never my strong point but I THINK this is correct, any body fancy checking for me!?

Start miles:- 85645
End Miles:-   86308
Total litres:- 141.15  (£190.21)

Litres to gallons is 141.15 divided by 4.546. Which is 31.05 gallons.
Then just divide the total miles (663) by 31.05
Which gives 21.35.
Compared to 21.4 which is on the trip computer readout!

Cost of fuel per mile is £190.21 divided by 663 miles, equals .29p per mile.

Does that seem right?

General Car Chat / Will I be able to ...*
« on: 30 September 2010, 13:16:12 »
...remove my windscreen without damaging it?

As I'm at a loose end whilst waiting for a courier to come pick up a gear box, I thought I might as well try and remove the windscreen from the Omega. I couldn't get hold of any 'cheese wire', and was advised against using an old brake cable from my Daughters bike, so I'm going to attempt to cut it out with a large craft knife.

Does anybody fancy rating my chances of getting it out with out damaging it, or my self, for that matter!

Also does anybody have an idea of what a good condition (at the moment) second hand Mv6 windscreen is worth?
And will it be worth less if I bleed all over it?

I'll let you know how I get on...

*Apologies to 'Turk' for the thread title.

General Car Chat / Funny phone call...
« on: 28 August 2010, 00:42:52 »
I've just had a phone call (well it was around 10:45 p.m. quite late, I think, to be phoning somebody you don't know...)
The chap on the phone knew my name and said he was phoning about the Omega. For a split second I thought he was someone from this site but eventually the penny dropped. I've just had my first response to the ad I put on Gumtree nearly 3 months ago!!! I was quite cheeky and advertised it for £1350 - if memory serves. The chap sounded quite disappointed when I told him the whole car was no longer for sale!

I did tell him about this site so if any of you Chaps selling an Mv6 get any new enquirys, I think I should be due a little commision!

General Car Chat / Do not look if easily upset...

Here is my Omega Mv6 as she looks today...
I've just found out the catalytic converters are worth at least £150, scrap value*, so it looks like her days are numbered.
I thought it would be nice to take a video to show why no-one should ever let me near another Omega, ever again!

I've never posted a video on line, be interesting to see the results, if it works!

*On a related note, does anybody happen to know of the best place to get rid of said catalytic converters. I'm willing to travel any-where within the West-Midlands to find the best price for them, I've been offered £150 for the cats and pre-cats at the first place I called into so figure they must be worth more than that....
