General Discussion Area / from a mate in aussie very funny
« on: 25 November 2010, 21:51:53 »

Text of a letter from a kid from Eromanga to Mum and Dad. (For Those of you not in the know, Eromanga is a small   town, west of Quilpie in the far south west of Queensland )

Dear Mum & Dad,
I am well. Hope youse are too. Tell me big brothers Doug and Phil that the Army is better than workin' on the station - tell them to get in bloody quick smart before the jobs are all gone! I wuz a bit slow in settling down at first, because ya don't hafta get outta bed until 6am. But I like sleeping in now, cuz all ya gotta do before brekky is make ya bed and shine ya boots and clean ya uniform. No bloody horses to get in, no calves to feed, no troughs to clean - nothin'!! Ya haz gotta shower though, but its not so bad, coz there's lotsa hot water and even a light to see what ya doing!
At brekky ya get cereal, fruit and eggs but there's no kangaroo steaks or goanna stew like wot Mum makes. You don't get fed again until noon and by that time all the city boys are buggered because we've been on a 'route march' - geez its only just like walking to the windmill in the bullock paddock!!
This one will kill me brothers Doug and Phil with laughter. I keep getting medals for shootin' - dunno why. The bullseye is as big as a bloody dingo's arse and it don't move and it's not firing back at ya like the Johnsons did when our big scrubber bull got into their prize cows before the Ekka last year! All ya gotta do is make yourself comfortable and hit the target - it's a piece of piss!! You don't even load your own cartridges, they comes in little boxes, and ya don't have to steady yourself against the rollbar of the roo shooting truck when you reload!
Sometimes ya gotta wrestle with the city boys and I gotta be real careful coz they break easy - it's not like fighting with Doug and Phil and Jack and Boori and Steve and Muzza all at once like we do at home after the muster.
Turns out I'm not a bad boxer either and it looks like I'm the best the platoon's got, and I've only been beaten by this one bloke from the Engineers - he's 6 foot 5 and 15 stone and three pick handles across the shoulders and as ya know I'm only 5 foot 7 and eight stone wringin' wet, but I fought him till the other blokes carried me off to the boozer.
I can't complain about the Army - tell the boys to get in quick before word gets around how bloody good it is.
Your loving daughter,
Sheila

Hi Guys,
been kicking a few ideas around and somehow this came up
so let me run it by you its open to all oof members,

Ok at the moment we have 2 caravans in england one in doncastor and one in cornwall, both are in good condition and usually i come across and get them one a t a time to bring here , so would anyone want a almost free holiday by having a touring holiday down to spain towing a caravan? I say almost free as we will pay the tolls should you want to use them and around half your fuel bill, you can take as long as you like after you have informed me that you have started with the object being to leave the caravan here almost at malaga in spain, the other alternative is to use it across france to san sebastion if you dont want to come to spain and we would collect it from you there? details are to be worked out yet but thought i would ask if anyone is interested?

General Discussion Area / A QUICK TRIP??????
« on: 03 May 2010, 09:54:42 »
hi guys and girls just in case you have nothing better to do, here is a very short abridged version of a recent trip i took, the full story would probably fill 4 pages but it should give you the general idea, what it dont convey is the sheer endless utter boredom of doing 55mph for endless bum numbing miles!!

Peter took me to malaga airport for the flight to leave at 8,45pm, gets to airport reads board and the flight is delayed for an hour!!! not a good start, so now im going to arrive in germany after midnight!!
flight is good, seats have loads of legroom, free tea or coffee and free cheese or ham baguette!!! far better than rip off english flights!!!

so get to airport in the pitch dark, off plane in door to passport control and baggae, no customs no passport check and baggage is at carousel before we are!! ;ess than ten mins after touchdown!! wow!!!
gets me bag and wanders outside and the carpark is just outside the door!!! none of your walk three miles to get to your motor here then!! looks around for manfred and sure enough there is a guy matching peters description stood there and its him,
get in car and he drives me to goeppingham, whereupon he cant find the house he left the car at less than 3 hours before!! oh joy!!! park in a shut for the night garage while he looks at his maps, then a car appears coming down the road and he leaps out and stops it in the middle of the road in the pitch dark!!!MADMAN how he never got run over i dont know!!
anyway he gets the directions and off we go 15mins later, we pull up(2.30am, in a small side road pitch dark and i see the beast i going to pilot, first impressions are not good!!! its got both wings damaged, is rusty and isnide it stinks!! jeex it stunk it was filthy!!
starts engine to be greeted with a horrendous clattering form the top end knocking!! switches on headights and only one works!! fix that ask manfred where the nearest garage is and he says5 or 6 kilometers away, so drives down the road accompanied by, a very noisy driveshaft clattering away when turning left, and a severly growling gearbox!! oh great!!
ANYWAY, 39 k later i find a gargae thats open and the heater still hasnt worked and the water light is flashing!!!tops up with fuel, checks water level and it spits a load out at me cos it has an airlock in it!! refills it burps it and set off on the next 850k leg, to rendsberg which is almost at the danish border!!!by now its 3.40am and im very tired, drove up the a8 got on a7 and just kept going till to tired to drive anymore found car park  and crashed out for an hour or so, woke up cos i was absolutely freezing and the car was covered in frost!!!!! no wonder i was cold, bac on the road and carried on arrived in rendsberg arund 11.45am, cant stop on the road outside the house so parked down a side street where i had seen a caravan looked at it and yes its a knaus, great, rings the number peter gave me and the guy speaks no english!!! oh joy!! just at that moment i look in the mirror and see a guy at the caravan, get ourt and ask if his name is michael ? yes he says , oh i have come to collect this caravan, no he says this is my new one!!
you must take the old one which is a kilometer from here!! great!! gets van and sets off down through germany only stopping for fuel for the car and eats for me, finally stops at 2am cos im knackered, gets me head down to awake at 3 am cos im freezing!!! 'dangle berries' to this and off we set again, down to luxembourg then to france, gets into france and it is just dawn as i cross the border, following slavishly the satnav, suddenly through bleary eyes i realise i dont know any of these road and im up high in the nountains on a minor road??? what the hell is this? stop grab 20mins kip then wake up and have a look at satnav, to find its set to NO toll roads and Shortest distance, doh!!! no wonder i havent been on a motorway!!!! reset satnav ND THEN  it tells me to go down a small unpaved road through the trees ? oh my god do i  or dont i? finaly go for it and half a k down this track i exit onto a motoorway!!!! yippee!! made it to san sebastion around midnight, picks up phone to ring Antonio to arrange to meet him and get a bite to eat and a bed for the night, and the phone is dead!!! no charger and his number is on the phne!! 'dangle berries' carry on then!! pulled over about 75k from san sebastion and had another hours kip, fills up and off we go again, fianlly gets to peters house at 5.30pm saturday, now here is the figures from the satnav record,
total distance traveled 3789kilometers
total journey time 52 hours
total moving time 47hours 15 mins
total stooped time 4 hours 45 mins,

and that incudes fuel and sleep stops!!! good god must have been mad, peter reckoned i would be back sunday late evening and i got back saturday teatime!!! then went to bed at 10pm after a meal and slept 12hours and 45 mins!!!!
lol since then been mostly taking it easy but got to respray the blue van tomorrow!!
cheers G

General Discussion Area / computer ask?
« on: 16 April 2010, 20:06:35 »
ok guys , first off i am totaly useless with computers so go easy on me when answering this question please :-[
now i know me laptop is now old hat as its around 4 or 5 years old!!! however mate of mine has just installed a new wireless router with a 350meter range, my house is only 40 meters from his and my wireless is having trouble connecting to it!!!! it just says signal low or very low(what?) so is it possible to download a new driver for my wireless bits? strange thing is i can pick up 3 other wireless systems and one of them is over 130meters away, but they all say low signal strength no matter what?
as i understand it my antenna is built into the laptop surround?
it works perfectly well normally its just that the wireless bit is very weaK, around 18months ago the wireless stopped working altogether and a mate who knows about computers told me he downloaded a new driver for it and got it working again, so im wondering if it needs doing again? had to mover it into the beroom to get online here which is only 30 mters from his place!!! help!! hope all this has made sense to someone?
any help or assistance greatly appreciated but please not to computerish? cos most of its gibberish to me :-[
