General Car Chat / Battery charger
« on: 15 January 2013, 16:20:06 »
My mates been telling me about this battery charger called Jumpstart. Apparently it's about the size of a cigarette packet and it plugs into the cigarette lighter to start a flat battery. You don't even have to open the bonnet he reckons.
Has anyone heard of this and if so what's your verdict?

General Discussion Area / A surprise for SWMBO..
« on: 31 December 2012, 10:18:53 »
The other half isn't looking forward to tomorrow, the "plan" as far as she's concerned is that around 12ish we head to the pubs in town, as is the tradition. The pubs are always busy, everyone in good cheer and i love it when the pipers come in and everyones singing...but as she's pregnant and can't drink she was only planning to stay for an hour then go home and leave me to it.

What she doesn't know is that I have no intention of going to the pub tomorrow, the new plan is that I'll make a nice fry up for breakfast, then tell her we're off somewhere a run in the car. Probably head to Ayr beach, around 60 miles away. Let the dog have a good run, get some nice fresh air in our lungs, it's meant to be a nice day so if not too cold we'll have a bite to eat on the beach, if not the car.

Fair to say she'll be gobsmacked  :)

What's everyone else got planned?

General Discussion Area / Any OOF bakers?
« on: 20 December 2012, 12:45:36 »
For the sake of TB, i don't want to come across as "gay", but I enjoy pottering around in he kitchen baking all sorts of goodies. And with most things I've got to say I'm pretty good.
However I'm at war with cherry cake. Made 3 in the last week, following the recipe to the letter, but the cherrys still sink to the bottom of the cake.
I've tried washing them, rolling them in flour, no joy, they all end up like the titanic :(
Swmbo has a friend that wants one made, so I'm hard at it today, any help on how to keep my cherrys up will be greatly appreciated  ;D

General Discussion Area / My mates gonna be on downton ....
« on: 20 December 2012, 10:14:21 »
The Christmas day showing of Downton Abbey will feature my big mate Rab and 2 of his vintage cars. THe cars are both renaults from 1911 and 1912. He will be in the show "starring" as the chauffeur.
Apparently the cars are shown on clips advertising the show on tv now although I haven't managed to catch them yet.
The big bugger kept it quiet, filming was in August.
He collects and restores old vintage cars, lost count of how many he's had over the years. He also collects " famous" cars and bikes, currently has the spice girls stretch mini and the police bike from heartbeat in his garage.

General Discussion Area / Quick sky question
« on: 20 November 2012, 21:57:15 »
If I buy a PPV movie from Sky box office tonight, and record it to watch tomorrow night rather than watch it tonight is that do-able?
I want to see Men in Black in 3D, but it's not on til 11pm, too late for Swmbo.

General Car Chat / Saab trouble
« on: 02 November 2012, 12:01:44 »
:( went to see the new bond film last night, cinema was in next town 15 miles away. Just got out of the town limits, doing around 45mph when all of a sudden the power steering went. Managed to stop safely near a layby and swmbo rang the AA.

Had to wait 90 mins for them to turn up, the guy had a look and said the pulley that holds the alternator belt had sheered off. Never heard a thing when it happened, the steering just became unbelievably stiff. :-\.

So car had to be hitched up and we were to be towed back... Then the guy says " oh, you're only covered for me to take you a maximum of 10 miles"
We were 14.7 miles from home  :(

After a minute of humming and hawing he said he would just take us the extra, but wasn't meant to as he would get into trouble. Finally got home just before 2am, bunged the guy a few quid for going the extra mile, well 4.7 miles  ;D

So the car was jumped started this morning and driven 2 miles to a garage. Guy says probably 2 or 3 days til I get it back.

Should've taken the Omega!!   ;D ;D
