General Car Chat / too much oil?
« on: 14 April 2012, 14:24:33 »
Hi, Im just checkin a few things on the smokey vectra, the breathers all seem clear, bit of oil around the throttle body so its a heavy breather lol
But, i just checked the dipstick, the car is sloppin back just very slightly (so this would make it read less?) but the oil is thick black and looks to me too be well over the max by a inch? would this cause the blue smoke at higher revs?

So, thinking the vectra would be cheaper to run and handy hatch, paid to swap insurance over, then went and taxed it...
Thought it was feeling a little sluggish but wasnt sure if it was just me, finaly got somewhere i could give it a good blast and it turns out its a massive fan of the red arrows! blue smoke everywhere so that'l be the piston rings then and money down the drain.
God knows what its worth now  >:( :'(

General Discussion Area / Bye bye hermes
« on: 10 April 2012, 14:04:52 »
Well, hopefully soon lol just listed my omega. Ive had a mk2 cavalier hanging around with no mot since last may needing work, a mate wanted it and swapped for a 1999 vectra 2.0CD hatch, its got mot til nov, so ive swapped my insurance over from omega and will use that til end of june when the policy runs out for running around, I really needed a hatch anyway and its a bit cheaper to run around here with! Ive popped a listing on here, but will try autotrader for a week then ebay, I think its a very fair price so should be good. I do plan on getting another omega, but an estate around june time.

Couple prob silly questions lol
So, while on the boat I use my fone to share out its 3g for internets i get about 1.5meg speedings, I keep hearing something about 4G is this actualy availible yet? is it just faster? will i need new fone or dongle to use it?
also, what the hell is edge?
And any ideas on how to get quicker net on my boat. I have to keep my network with vodafone to use my suresignal box at home for a signal so Id have to get a second system which i could just leave on the boat.
thanking yous  :) :y

General Discussion Area / xbox suround set up question
« on: 16 February 2012, 14:03:42 »
OK, bare with me i have a massive hangover!
I think Ive confused myself already.
Ive always had ps3 with hdmi to tv, optical out to suround sound.  but couldnt work out how to get the xbox to play through suround sound without buyin that extra cable, so i just plugged the optical cable from ps3 into the tv, so now its optical from tv to suround, hdmi from each console.
so its playing through fine, but does that mean it wont be 5.1 sound from consoles?  :o ::) ???

General Discussion Area / next door strikes again!
« on: 29 January 2012, 17:14:50 »
Grrr, right heres the situation, for some reason i have some land other side of next doors property, with a wide path that leads along, he has some land and a garage other side of the path, i just went out to see theres a pipe been dug into the ground going right across my path, he even tried lieing to my face, wouldnt say what it was for said he didnt know his builders done it! erm didnt notice the massive concret platform for an oil tank either? hes such a bloody liar, then says 'well i dont want a oil tank in my garden' well tough shit! lol then says 'i will put it there then (behind my workshop on my land) cus thats where its been historicly'    actualy no, that was when both houses were owned by the same person, hes had a lpg tank in his garden for 3.5 years that ive been here, theres no way im having the pipe under my path or a his tank on my land. maybe if someone knocked on the door and asked for a solution id be more helpfull!
rant over lol already had to get his builders in to change the side of there new extension thats along my garden, the bloody facial and guttering was right over my workshop lol

General Discussion Area / Tell me about....induction hobs
« on: 26 January 2012, 15:03:10 »
Please  :)
I seem to be on a roll of replacing stuff!
my electric hob is one of those built into a island, Ive managed to crack the corners leaving sharp bits i like to catch myself on, and it sometimes just decides its had enough of cooking and turns itself off. Its a bit pants in the temp settings either all or nothing it seems.
Anyway, Im going to replace it and wondering if its worth getting a induction hob? i dont know much about them other then its totaly black magic how it works!
Ive cooked on one before that was fun.
Any ideas on decent ones to go for? fully induction or half n half? Ive never changed a hob before is it something i can tackle or get someone else in?
thanks for any advice!

General Car Chat / saabs future?
« on: 13 December 2011, 23:38:14 »
Any ideas on what will happen to saab at the end of the week? been given a deadline to secure new funds to save themselves, or its bankrupcy.
Owned by spyker at the moment, GM supply engines, but the chinese seem to be heavily involved, owning older platforms and the uk dealers. I bet it goes down the MG/Rover way, bankrupt, then the brand gets used by the chinese using outdated models or totaly differant cars. (GM wont supply anything to chinese)
