Cars for Sale & wanted / WANTED: F/L Auto Saloon
« on: 18 June 2013, 20:16:32 »
Hey,

Well just last month I was really interested in one of the cars for sale here on the forum. It was a (nearly) one owner 2.6 that only needed a bit of work to the rear caliper or something, so it was an excellent find. Well I just found out it sold (for £400!!) and all because I failed to realise my inbox was full and the poor guy couldn't message me! GRGH!

So anyways, I'm on the hunt again for a cheap Omega to take me across Europe. Planning on driving to Greece via Italy and then over to Istanbul next month. After that it won't be driven untill we return.
  • Must be an Auto
  • Must Be A Saloon
  • Must Be A Facelift
  • With a Bit of M.O.T and Tax
I recently drove a 2.2 Auto and I must say it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be coming from a V6 (never floored it so normal driving was not shabby.) so any engine would do. I'd actually prefer a 2.2 for the trip now. :)

Hey,

There's a 2.2 Auto for sale at my local trader, possibly a CDX as it has a few goodies but with cloth seats.

My knowledge is geared more towards the V6 motors so I was just wondering if anyone could give me a couple of tips on what to look out for when buying a 2.2 Auto?

Thanks!

Omega General Help / How To Locate / Disconnect Alarm
« on: 10 June 2013, 23:58:07 »
Hi,

My Omega will be scrapped tomorrow however I have a serious problem. I only had one key for the car and it has now gone missing. I have raided the house up and down for it and it is no where to be found.

The problem is, I left a few of my things in the car including the stereo which I wanted. I also wanted to take the catalyst converters out as I was offered good money for them by the local cat guy.

If I was to quickly zap the drivers window to get the bonnet open, can I simply disconnect the car battery? Or does the alarm run of its own battery? I have read before that it has an internal battery that can go iffy sometimes causing it to sound.

Many regards,  :-[

Omega General Help / Some Random Questions
« on: 23 April 2013, 01:44:14 »
  • 1) Are the 3.0 and the 3.2 camshafts different? If so, wouldn't it be better to use the 3.2 cams to upgrade the 2.6 instead of using 3.0 cams like some suggest? What addition gains would the 3.2 cams have over the 3.0?

    2) Can you use 3.2 cams in a 3.0 / 2.5?

    3) Does the 2.6 use the same forged steal crankshaft as the 3.2?

    4) Can you use the forged crank from the 3.2 in a 2.5 / 3.0 engine?

Random questions but they help keep my brain cells busy. :)  :y

Omega General Help / 4.22 Differential - 2.6 / 3.2 Omega's
« on: 21 April 2013, 20:44:29 »
OK so after reading through about 20 threads, most of them start of with different claims then usually after reading through the thread it would be suggested that the 2.6 / 3.2 Omega's came with the 4.22 differential.

So to clear up the air can anyone confirm one last time if the 2.6 / 3.2 Omega's came with the 4.22 diff from the factory? (or if other options were available from the factory?)

Thanks!

Cars for Sale & wanted / WANTED: Omega V6 Saloon Auto
« on: 12 April 2013, 13:01:44 »
Hi,

Well my car will be heading to scrap heap heaven soon and I would need another one by Sunday/Monday as I need to get back on the road ASAP. It simply has to be an Omega, I can't drive anything less then that at this point, all the convincing in the world wont work, unless its an BMW E39 or a S-Class. ;D

I had an Estate before but I'd rather try out a saloon this time. I've seen a couple go here literally missing them by seconds which is a real shame. The requirements are:
  • Has To Be An Automatic
  • 2.5 V6 and above, I'd actually like a 2.6 / 3.0 / 3.2 just to get a feel of what they are like.
  • If there is no M.O.T it MUST be M.O.T worthy.
  • Black or Silver Preferred But Not To Fussed.
  • Leather Seats Are A Bonus.

And that's about it. Thanks!  :y

Omega General Help / V6 Omega Tubular Manifolds [2012]
« on: 25 September 2012, 22:55:04 »
Hey!

I have been searching for ages for some "proper" information on tubular manifolds for the V6 omega but there clearly isn't any. The only bit of information that is constantly being repeated is that someone on autobahnstormers was making some (dating all the way back to 2008) and that is all.

Can anyone confirm a success story for the Omega? Most if not all Google searches end up on forums where people remove the omega engines and drop them into other cars which is really not useful.

If anyone could be kind enough to log into the ABS forum and dig out the most up to date information and post back, I would be ever so grateful!

Thanks! :)

Omega General Help / 3.0 Auto Vs 3.2 Auto
« on: 05 September 2012, 15:39:31 »
Hey,

I have a question on the 0-60 times of pre/post facelift V6's.

According to official figures, a 2.5 pre-facelift auto does 0-60 in 9.5 seconds. The 2.6 facelift (even with 9hp more) puts out the same 0-60 time. (assuming from the extra weight facelift cars have.)

The 3.0 auto (again all according to official figures) puts out an 0-60 time of 9.0 seconds HOWEVER the facelift 3.2 (with 7hp more) does the same time a second quicker @ 8.0 seconds!

Can someone please explain to me how exactly the 3.2 dropped a second of its time? What changed? Better low down power? Different autobox, diffs, what?

Newbie Welcome Area / WANTED: Nice Cheap Omega (any variant)
« on: 21 August 2012, 12:20:15 »
Hey,

Just recently missed this one so I feel a little gutted http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=106073.0

Looking for a similar spec'd similar priced car. There's a few facelifted cars on Autotrader right now for around £500, but I'd rather buy of a forum member if I can.

At first I was looking into a saloon, but now I won't mind if its an estate. I'd like it to be a facelift but if not, I won't shed any tears. I was also looking for a manual 2.0 / 2.2 but now I won't mind if its a V6 or a Diesel. Manual or Automatic not a problem either.

I need a cheap yet comfy run about car for the next 6 - 8 months. After that I'll probably break it here on the forum for members that need parts or simply keep it as a spare car.  :y

Thanks!

Omega General Help / Omega B Vs. FL
« on: 14 August 2012, 02:34:22 »
Hi, not sure if this has been asked before, Google was not helpful.

Is the facelift Omega more refined in terms of ride quality, comfort and driveability? As in, does it ride smoother, quieter, corner better etc? Or was it simply interior/exterior changes?

Thanks!

Omega General Help / Omega's To The Limit :)
« on: 08 August 2012, 20:01:21 »
Hi,

In the next few months I will be going abroad and have been looking at what cars I could buy once I get there.

I eventually rounded it down to an Omega seen as they are the closest things you could get to in terms of comfort without hanging yourself financially. The reason being, taxes over there caused the value of vehicles to stay extraordinarily high. So a £1,000 omega here costs around £7,000 over there. (Yes, you read that right. :D)

Because of this, owners rarely buy new cars which means mileage tend to exceed well over 300,000km's (200k+ miles) on most cars.

I've been browsing the equivalent autotrader and almost all omega models are peaking 300,000km’s. Most of them are automatics, and most of them have been converted to LPG.

In terms of reliability, is there much to be expected from an omega after it hits 200k miles?

I know this is a U.K forum so 200k to someone here means a prep for the scrap yard lol but seen as parts are fairly priced over there, owners tend to keep good care of their cars.

However this still would not excuse the fact that it’s a 15 year old car with 200,000 miles on the clock. So my question is, would an omega happily push another 50,000 miles with basic maintenance or would I simply be buying a ticking time bomb?

I'm currently looking at a pre-facelift 2.5 V6 auto. It has 310,000km's and had LPG fitted @ 120,000km's.

All the advice I can get is appreciated.

Thanks!
