Omega Gallery / My black 2.6 CDX
« on: 10 April 2016, 16:02:52 »
Hi, I thought I'd start a proper topic for my car at some point.

It's a 2001 X 2.6 CDX (I think, going by the thread describing the trim levels, can't tell due to it being debadged) with a rather fruity exhaust fitted by the previous owner, plus some Elite alloys too.

I have a couple of questions to ask the people of this forum though,

 - Automatic gearbox software. I saw mention of updating it in a thread, is there anybody in NE Scotland who can do it?
 - It seems to have a little bit of camber on the rear wheels. I've been led to believe this is to do with some bushes in the rear suspension, any more pointers on this? Fairly confident doing some DIY on it, I used to own a 1999 Audi A4 Quattro and did a lot of suspension work on that sod myself!
 - I've heard these engines like to sludge up their oil sometimes, so it's wise to take the sump off and have a look. Is it a nasty job on this or straightforward enough?

I intend to drive it to Buckinghamshire (500 miles each way) in late June, so want to get it properly fettled beforehand! Admittedly, I bought it in Northampton and drove it up here having done nothing to it, so meh!

I fancied a cheap barge to waft around in for a while, so I found one... in Northampton, and drove it back up to Aberdeen.

It's a 2001 X reg 2.6 V6 auto, CD spec. So it only has cloth seats, but it appears to have the wheels from an Elite and a boot spoiler of some sort (Irmscher perhaps?). It has an MOT until Feb 2017 and 104k on the clocks, so not too bad! As a bonus, it came with an Alpine double-DIN head unit with a USB port (so I have my 32GB flash drive full of music in there) and it's also wired up to the steering wheel controls!

I thought it needed a thermostat at first, because the temperature gauge varies between just over 80 and just over 90 depending on whether I'm driving or stationary, but according to a post I found on these forums, that's normal for a V6. Good, because I also found out it's an utter sod of a job to do on these!

I got the alignment done on Saturday as it felt a bit odd when I first got it. It's MUCH better now, no more tramlining on road markings!

The only other problem I have is that it seems to struggle to demist, but after some research I found out this has the wrong pollen filter in it, and it needs an activated carbon one. I have one sitting under my desk right now, which arrived in the post today. I'll swap that out when I get home.

Anyway, have a couple of photos, taken outside Huntly castle yesterday.
