Omega General Help / A solution found to limp mode
« on: 25 July 2010, 11:48:52 »
Dear Forum,
I have asked many of you knowledgable
people about my Omega  problem. Which
was in a limp mode after a new exhaust from
the catman.co.uk. The emmisions light was on
and as I've mentioned it was in limp mode. I have
a 2.2 Cd auto saloon and have been plagued by
this problem for 3 years!! If you have the same model
as me don't waist your time time trying the paperclip
test or the pedal test as they don't work on the 2.2 model.

If you have this problem an you need to use your car, disconnect the first O2 sensor, let the engine warm up
until the fans come on and re-start the engine, now you will
know if it's out of a limp mode by pressing the sports button
on the gear stick. If the light stays on you know you can drive away, but you don't have to keep it in sports mode. This is not a permanent fix, but it will get you home.
Back to my original problem, once I understood what an O2
sensor does I decided to tighten up the manifold and exhaust
just incase their was any leaks, yes the O2 sensors really are that sensitive. My manifold was loose, a quick tighten with a 13 mm socket......job done. My point is this Forum is Gold,
I would like to thank everyone who has helped me sent me links etc.....I have saved at least 200 quid, as I was going to buy 2 new O2 sensors and maybe a fault finding mission at my local garage. If you take into account the local fast fitting exhaust company quoted me £700 quid to replace just the exhaust and cat. I did it myself for £260 + £3 for paste with a trolly jack and axle stands with a basic tool kit, no power tools, oh and penertration oil......many thanks to you all and good luck..

Omega General Help / Limp mode after having new exhaust
« on: 23 July 2010, 08:52:40 »
Dear Forum,

I have a 2.2 cd auto saloon, just fitted a new exhaust system
from the catman, which was very cheap £260. My problem is the emission light stays on andthe car is in limp mode. To get round this I have swapped the O2 sensors, but this didn't work, however if I disconnect the O2 sensor and let the engine get hot, until the fans come on, then re-start a couple of times the car comes out of limp mode and works fine. This has been a problem for nearly 3 years. I thought the new exhaust would fix the problem. Any solutions or ideas my friends.

He cleared them but after a few miles it went back into limp mode. I bought a new O2 sensor about a year ago, but do they actualy stop working?

Omega General Help / 2.2 CD with a bit of trouble
« on: 16 June 2008, 10:50:42 »
Hello my Omega Buddies......... I love my car I think it's one of the best looking cars around and I cannot understand why Vauxhall GM pulled the plug on it???

My problem is the engine man light...I have disconnected the first lamder sensor which enables me to drive my car, if I re-connect it on a cold start it goes into limp mode and the spaner light comes on and the man light goes out.

Also the display tells me to check the oil, however the oil level is fine, but I cannot find the dip stick for the automatic gearbox am I being a dip stick......I am sure somebody on this fantastic website will have an idea. Oh!! Ive just remembered when I start from cold it sounds like I have no exhaust system on the car for about 20 seconds........then it sounds ok. Appreciate some input my friends. I'm driving around with the 1st lamder sensor disconnected and with the manag light on!

Omega General Help / 2.2 cd 2001 taken lamber sensor out
« on: 29 March 2008, 17:56:36 »
Hello my friends,

I have had nothing but trouble with 2.2 regards limp mode and man light staying on.
I'm told my CAT needs replacing and it would be a good idea to replace the lamber sensors........I thought as a cheap fix I would replace the front lamber sensor as I could not buy the seconed at any motor factor....Anyway it seemed to do the trick. However, the next day :y boy was I wrong. It become a nightmare I lost throttle control the car was chugging on 2-3.....smoke from the exhaust. I gave it 20 clean starts nothing.

I left it for a week and started it today. The same thing. Except while it was running I disconnected the lamber sensor, I got my throttle back. I started to disconnect a volume of electronic things on the engine and restarted.......with the front lamber sensor still disconnected.......Bingo!!!!  car is out of limp mode management light still on but I can drive it.......I'm baffled.

Can anyone suggest anything...please help.

Kind Regards...... :y

Omega General Help / 2.2 cd 2001 Limp mode non starter
« on: 24 March 2008, 22:15:40 »
Dear Omega buddies,

Alas, the problem has comback, limp mode, non starter and if it does start, I cannot rev it with the pedal.......All I did was replace the front lamber sensor. All was ok, then the management light came on after a cold start and I now have a very static Omega.

I have had some brilliant advise prior to this, ie cam sensor, CAT.......now I am very tiered with my Omega, what happened with Vauxhall and their electrics, looking into this website (which is fantastic) Omegas have a very poor track record as do vectras and corsa's......... any advise would be wonderful. :y

Hello my Omega Buddies,

My problem starts with the engine management light. It came on but I could drive the car as normal although the automatic gear changes were a bit choppy. I got the local garage to clear them as MOT was dou. The codes suggested CAT was buggered and it had a gear box error. My Omega passed MOT and next day it went into a limp mode. Back to the garage to get the codes cleared, their was loads of different codes........the owner was baffled, he got me to drive around the block and he cheched to see if everything was running ok......it was.

Next day limp mode again, disconnect battery wait 20 minutes, I can drive it again but the management light stays on. Ive been told I need to replace the CAT and Lamder sensors. Someone suggested a new ECU.......The fumes from the exhaust do smell when cold and it sounds like I have a blow in the pipe. I am confused, I'm off to a garage tomorrow to get a price for the CAT and Lamder sensor, but I would appreciate any advise as I have a funeral on Wednesday and being a smart looking black car I have lots of family to transport......please help.

Omega General Help / engine management light
« on: 18 November 2007, 13:34:36 »
Hi Guys.........I have just bought a 2.2 CD Omega 2000. I went for a long drive yesterday after replacing the  :'(battery, I went to start my car this morning and the engine management light came on, I was'nt to bothered as my Frontera light would come on all the time. However I had loss of power. I put the car into D and at first it seemed ok as I drive very slow out of my road, when I got onto the main drag I had to put it into position 1 to make it move. When getting to asda it just cut out. I managed to get home but I am worried. Its only done 68k and Ive only had it 7 weeks, Could someone please shed some light on the problem.

Many thanks

Newbie Welcome Area / Hello to my new Omega Buddies
« on: 17 March 2008, 12:38:59 »
Dear All,
I have a question, 6 months ago I bought my seconed Omega a 2001 2.2cd, I fell in love with it the moment I viewed it, and bought it in my mind before money was exchanged.......you know the feeling.....about 4 weeks into owning it the battery went, not a problem, replaced it then I got the engine mangement symbol and the other warning symbol, the one with a spanner in it. This happened at Asda car park with about 30 cars behind me, it went into a shut down mode, I lost all
power in 'D' and had to use 1st to move it. eventually I got it home using 1st and 2nd gear. I had no money to get it fixed so I tried the pin test.....Im not sure if this worked but after a 2 day static period, It was out of the limp mode and fine.....
The management light came on and off, but it happened on my frontera so it did'nt bother me too much, the car was running fine. Eventually the engine management light stayed on all the time but the car was fine. I payed a garage £25 on Friday to clear the code as MOT was dou.....he said the code was problem with CAT and gearbox. but he cheched oil in gearbox and said it was fine.

The service history suggests this has been a problem for a while as the CAT code keeps coming up, however the CAT is fine and has been tested in the past and my car passed its MOT......My car this Saturday defaulted back into this limp mode bang in the middle of a busy high street.........I managed to get home in 1st after about 10 attempts, as it kept stallingm in D,  I love my car but Im loosing confidence in it, can anyone suggest a top tip..........sorry for the epic
