Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Parrot CK3100 installation
« on: 19 December 2008, 19:29:07 »
Hi,

I am about to install a Parrot CK3100 into my facelift, and I would like to use the existing pre-wired connector which I found up behind the glovebox.

However it looks like the previous owner has done some tinkering with it before.

Would anyone have a wiring diagram for the pinouts on this connector, because the pins don't seem to correspond to the ones on the SOT-109 adapter lead that I bought.  This lead was supposed to just plug directly into the Vauxhall connector, but from looking at it, the pins don't match up.

Thanks,
Richard

Omega General Help / Rattling Door Pins Quick Fix
« on: 10 November 2009, 10:06:49 »
Having listened to my door lock pins rattling for the last few months I decided to try and quieten them down before they drove me crazy.

I hope this quick fix can help anyone else out there with the same problem and it only takes about five minutes.

The first step is to lever out the red tab on the locking pin.  I used a small precision screwdriver to do this.  The red tab does not have to be removed completely.

To remove the pin just pull straight up.

Wrap a piece of insulating tape around the base about two or three times and trim the excess from the bottom.

Replace the pin and push the red tab back in.  Repeat the procedure for all four lock pins and that should be it.

Omega General Help / Hairy exhaust
« on: 01 November 2009, 19:13:59 »
I was joining the motorway today and I put the foot down to get up to speed when there was a bang from the back of the car, and it started to sound louder.

I pulled over to have a look see and the back box had burst open and there was hair hanging out everywhere.  I drove home the last ten miles ok and other than the car being louder it seems to drive fine.

I will be trying to get a new back box tomorrow but I just want to know is it safe to drive the car in this state or am I likely to do any damage?  I would have a 40 mile drive to the place I have lined up to change it.

Thanks for your advice.

(P.S. Does it ever stop with Omegas? Always something happening!)

Omega General Help / Possible HBV?
« on: 13 October 2009, 18:37:36 »
Well I think I have finally gotten a heater bypass valve failure on my car.  I have noticed over the last few months that the coolant level was dropping very slowly and I was having to top up by about an inch every two or three weeks.  Today while out driving I had a coolant warning pop up on the MID and I had lost most of my coolant.  I noticed a pool of water under the car also.

Its a bit dark so its hard to see the HBV but I did notice that one of the lower hoses was wet so I am assuming that it is in fact the HBV.

Can someone confirm if part number 90566947 is correct for a 2001 2.6 MV6?  I need to see how much the part will cost me in my local dealer in Ireland and if its way more expensive than UK dealers like it usually is, I will have to look at getting one shipped across the water.

Right,

Driving home this evening in my 2001 2.2DTi when the emissions light popped on (the one with the engine symbol, I think the bulb was taken out of the EML socket as it never lights up).

The car dropped revs, and was in what I assume was limp home mode. I pulled over and turned the car off.  Left it a minute and restarted. The car starts after turning over for about a second or two, but the check light comes on and it idles roughly. (i.e revs seem to rise and fall very slightly).  The car does not want to rev, even if you push accelerator to the floor.

So I turned the car off and called the AA.  I was told it would be about an hour before they arrived.  After sitting in the car for about 40mins I tried starting the engine again, and everything was back to normal and revving freely.  I decided to wait for the AA man so he could read the codes to find out what caused the problem.

AA man turns up, and hooks up his code reader.  He could not get a successful connection.  Then while he was doing his stuff and the car was idling, the issue reappeared.  At the same time that the issue reappeared, the cd player came on and starting playing a CD, but the audio was messed up, it seemed to be speeding up and down so it was like the singer was singing fast, then slow, then fast again.  And then the engine gave one big rev all of its own.

Anyway, AA man tried a few things to get his reader to connect, but he was not able.  He tried revving the car but it really did not want to, and there were clouds of white smoke coming from the exhaust when he put the accelerator down.

Got the car towed home and tried connecting my own code reader which never had a problem connecting before, but it too failed.  When I started the car here at home, it seems fine again but I really don't trust it.

I need the car for work so I will need to send it to a dealer tomorrow.  I am afraid that they may diagnose something incorrectly like the ECU as I don't really trust dealers diagnosis from reading past experiences here.

So I am wondering if anyone has an idea of what path to take to troubleshoot this?

Thanks for your help.

Omega General Help / Parking sensors problem
« on: 23 January 2008, 12:30:12 »
Hi,

I have the day off work so thought I would have a look at my parking sensors which seem to have given up the ghost.  It is the factory fitted sensor system.  Worked fine up until recently but now it never seems to work. (it works maybe once in 50 reverses)  Would someone in the know mind taking a look at these pics and see if there is anything obvious wrong and maybe give me an idea of what steps to take to fix it?

This is the parking system control box.

Two wires seem to run off up inside the rear wing up towards the front of the car (the ones in the red circle, power maybe?) but the rest of the wires run from the control unit through to this point at the near side rear light cluster but don't seem to be connected to anything.  Should they be?

I am thinking that it may be a loose connection where the parking systems taps off of the reverse light but I can't find where this connection is.

Thanks all for your help.

Regards,
Richard

Omega General Help / Car would not start this morning.
« on: 13 July 2009, 07:40:26 »
Hi,

Went out to the car to go to work this morning and it wont even turn over.  Waiting now for AA to arrive as I can't miss work today.

When you turn the ignition on, all dash lighs appear as normal but when you try and start it, it won't even try and turn over.

When I try the pedal trick to see if there are any codes, what I get is the EML light flashing continuosly which I think relates to the immobiliser.  I don't know if it's a coincidince or not, but I swapped batteries between my two key fobs yesterday evening, so could this be related?

Also, I checked the battery voltage and was getting  11volts which is a little low, but surely which that much voltage it should at least turn a few times.

Thanks for any advice!

Omega General Help / 2.2 Diesel sluggish performance
« on: 06 August 2008, 14:35:56 »
Hi guys and gals,

I have briefly broached the subject of my cars poor performance here in the past but I am still having problems.  I hope I can run it by you again and see if anyone can help me.

The problem is that the car seems to drive very sluggishly.  I would say at about 85-90% the power of what I would expect. My last 2.2DTI performed much better than my current one.  You really need to drive it hard to get it up to speed.  My fuel consumption is way down too according to the computer. I am only averaging 33 MPG whereas I used to get 44MPG on my last car.  Every now and again, especially when driving up long hills, the emissions light pops on and I get a sudden drop in power.  If I keep driving it will go off again after about 20 seconds and power is restored (Albeit still at its reduced level).

I bought an EML327 from Ebay and found no codes stored. This morning I hooked the laptop up and drove until I got the emissions EML to pop on and I tried reading the codes on the spot.  Still no codes showing up.

The car was recently serviced, with all filters changed.  I also changed the MAF sensor but this did not make any difference.  I suspect it may be some sort of turbo issue but I can't tell.  I can't find any cracked pipes or tubes in the engine either.

I know most people here are petrol guru's but any assistance you can give me would be appreciated!

Thanks for reading.

Richard

Omega General Help / Outside Air Temperature incorrect
« on: 20 September 2008, 12:17:39 »
Hi,

Got into the car thursday morning to see that global warming had hit overnight and it was now 66 degrees celcius in Ireland!  Anyway, this happened in my previous facelift car so I knew it was the temperature sensor gone kaput.

Got one yesterday from the dealer and fitted it, but the temperature as still up around 55.  Thought it might take overnight to recalibrate but I checked it again this morning and it was 54 degrees.  I went for a short drive to see if that would wake it up but it's still reading very high.

I know I might just have gotten a duff sensor from Vauxhall, but is there anything else I can check first?  If there was a broken wire or something, what would the temperature default to?  I disconnected the sensor completely and the MID was reading 55.

Thanks for your help!

Omega General Help / Omega lip spoilers
« on: 11 July 2008, 08:51:57 »
Hi all,

I am trying to source a facelift boot lip spoiler for my CDX but having a lot of trouble finding one.

I see a few spoilers for pre-facelift cars on ebay and was wondering would they fit a facelift car?

Thanks,
Richard

Omega General Help / Battery warning light
« on: 07 July 2008, 20:16:25 »
Hi,

Driving home from work this evening and my battery warning light popped on.  Car still drives and starts and works ok as do all the electrics so I am not noticing any obvious issues.

I checked the voltages on the battery once I got home and got the below results:

Car off: ------- 12.8V
Idle:------------14.2V
Under high load (All lights and electrics on)-----13.6V

These seem alright to me. The warning light itself is dim, about half the strength it is when you turn on the ignition.

I am just wondering what my next step may be? Is it a sign of my alternator going?

All help and suggestions appreciated!

Richard

Omega General Help / How do I remove Grey MID connector?
« on: 09 June 2008, 12:51:42 »
Hi all,

I am just changing a blown bulb behind my rev counter and have all the screws for the dash removed.  I am having problems though removing the connector behind the MID.  How exactly does it come out? I am afraid to force it in case I break it.

Omega General Help / Can anyone tell me what this is?
« on: 02 March 2008, 11:48:12 »
Under the bonnet of my 2.2 diesel is this plunger like thing.  It looks like it gets pushed down when the bonnet is closed.  Any ideas what it is?  I don't remember seeing it on my last car which was also a 2.2DTI.

Thanks,
Richard

Omega General Help / 2.2DTI poor fuel consumption`
« on: 01 March 2008, 17:34:08 »
Hi all,

I have just picked up a 2001 2.2 DTI CDX Omega.  I noticed on the drive home that my MPG is showing up at around 37MPG whereas my old Elite used to get me closer to 44MPG.  Any ideas what I should be checking for this?

I also feel that it is very slightly down on power, but I have had it looked at in a Vauxhall garage and they have told me nothing is wrong with it. I am not convinced that all is well and feel the problem may be indicated by the low MPG.

Any ideas appreciated!!

Thanks,
Richard

Omega General Help / How can I test my alarm?
« on: 18 November 2007, 18:52:26 »
Hi,

I have a 01 Omega Elite, 2.2DTI.  I am presuming that there is a factory fitted alarm in this car as standard. Is there a way I can test if my alarm works?  What would be the best way to activate it to find this out?

Thanks,
Richard
