Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Engine loom connector
« on: 09 October 2010, 22:54:56 »
Is the car end of the connector the same regardless of engine size? eg. 4pot vs v6, Been offered a v6 for parts with a damaged loom connector, and I have a spare from a 4 pot I broke. ideally need it to test the engine before removal, so a bodge would suffice.

Posting this problem on behalf of Glen Kew who cam up to my house today with his car,

The car is a facelift model 2.5 Cd saloon

Glen had the speedo assembly changed recently due to the fuel guage and temp guage not working, He was advided by a local garage to change the whole unit. I noticed from looking at the newly fitted clocks that they are from a minifacelift model because the faces are black not grey.

When the left inticator is switched on the rear fog and front fog symbols flash in time with the indicator arrow, also the strange thing is the stereo backlights also flash!

The hazzard switch also caused this to happen, but the right indicator works as normal.

We have checked the exterior of the car and the fogs do not flash with the indicators.

AmI right in thinking this is because the wrong type of speedo assembly has been used?

Cheers guys  ;)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / drivers electric window problem
« on: 28 February 2009, 20:21:40 »
Changed the window switch unit on Glens facelift omega, old unit would randomly lower window when you pulled switch up to close it.

I got a switch unit off mutantcav, tried it and now you have to repeatedly press the button to get the window to go down and up, If you hold the switch in either position the window moved half an inch then stops until you press the switch again.

the other 3 windows work fine.

is this another faulty switch unit or is the regulator iffy?

thanks

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Climate panel wiring
« on: 15 February 2009, 14:37:14 »
Have a spare one of these that I need to check/change the bulbs in, I have a length of the wiring that plugs into the back of it, which wires do I need to connect up to a power supply to test the bulbs?

Seen a few on ebay for sale all lit up but not fitted to a car, so assume its possible.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / relocating Traction control switch
« on: 15 February 2009, 14:12:37 »
In the process of running the wiring to the car in sat nav screen from the h/unit in the boot, problem being as my car is a prefacelift it has the large tc switch beside stereo, The car has the rear demisters for the rear side windows so that rules out using that switch location like the minifacelifts do.

anyone done this and have an alternative idea to a switch location?

I want to stick to the factory look so big aircraft type switches are a no no  ;D

cheers

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / black box on throttle cable
« on: 01 February 2009, 16:38:00 »
Whilst taking bits off the elite that I broke a while back, I took off the throttle cable just incase I should ever need it. The cable has a black box with an electrical connector on it, im assuming this it s throttle sensor or something, were all models fitted with this or just the elites?

cant remember seeing it on the 2.0's when I had them.

cheers

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / changing dash clocks
« on: 16 January 2009, 19:11:07 »
Some old guy came up to the house today asking if I had a set of closks to fit his 95 2.0 CD, he showed me his dash and the rev counter was bobbing up and down and the fuel guage wasnt working until you gave the dasha bang, I took it out and cleaned the connections etc but still the same, I assume the clock set is fubar'd

The only spare set i Have left is from a 3.0 elite, I can use his own MID but will my clocks work ok? even tho the speedo on his only goes to 140 and mine are 160

Seeing as this sytem is pretty much independant of the rest of the car, is it theoretically possible to fit it into a different make of car?

The screen would have to fit somewhere but assuming I can pick the wires I need from the toyota's loom it should work shouldnt it?

Or will the speed signal be wrong?

cheers

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / interior light delay
« on: 04 January 2009, 19:48:04 »
Jumped into the M reg v6 after it sitting for a couple of weeks, when I shut the door with the ignition on the interior light stayed on for the delay period that it should when the ignition is off.

Am I right in thinking that its the light itself that is at fault? as i dont have a spare one from this age of car, only the newer style.

cheers

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Doing a 4 pot to V6 conversion
« on: 18 December 2008, 21:28:42 »
Changing a mates 97 16v to a v6 due to engine problems, I have all the parts needed to change his car to a v6,

Engine
manual box (car already a manual)
Exhaust system with heatshields.
Engine and Injection loom
Cooling system
V6 dash clocks and MID

We are not bothered about traction control so is it right to assume that the abs setup can remain the same?

Will we need to change the fuel pump or are they rated the same pressure?

anything else that we havent thought of? (apart from going and buying a miggy thats already a V6)

seeing as all the bits are here and its not costing anything apart from time, we think its worthwhile.

cheers

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / running sc804 w/changer but no amp?
« on: 13 December 2008, 13:36:50 »
My 95 v6 came with the cd300 single disc unit as standard. The other day i found the changer connector taped up behind the fuse box,so got a changer loom (from boot to connector) to fit one of my spare sc804 units and a dc012 changer.

Problem is (I think) the sc804 needs to work through the philips amp doesnt it? the car does not have this and does not have the wiring in the footwell connector to be able to use the amp wiring thats in the changer loom.

am I stuffed? I can get the amp from somewhere but if the wiring running from footwell to back of headunit isnt there then it sems pointless.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / blaupunkt cd300
« on: 13 December 2008, 18:27:06 »
does anyone know how to fix the loading mechanism for one of these? it wont suck in or spit out the disc, but if you force one in it will play, but then it has to be dismantled to get the disc out.  :(
