General Car Chat / Z14XEP (Astra 1.4 Petrol) 2006 Oil Starvation
« on: 09 August 2012, 11:35:51 »
Hi old friends!

Looking for some help with an Astra 1.4 (Z14XEP) 2006 plate.  Just replaced head gasket on this engine and now the head is not getting any oil.  Any idea or pointers to what could be causing this?  Oil pressure relief valve?  Galleries blocked?  Was fine before the replacement so not sure what's happened.

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks.   :y

Also, no fault codes stored just oil pressure light lit.

Hi, I'm wondering if there is a way to get the radio unlocked without having to take it to a dealer.  I've already tried the method of pressing AS and then turning the radio on.  When the AS button is pressed it shows 0 SAFE, which I assume to mean there are no attempts left.

Can this be unlocked without having to go to the dealer and if not does anyone know how much they charge to unlock it?

Thanks in advance.

The car is a 51 plate 2.2 omega.

Hi peeps, got trouble with a vectra C 1.8 16v '03 plate (Z18XE).  Mates car cut out on the motorway and got towed back to mine.

Both Engine MIL and Car with spanner through it are on the dash - car won't start.

Fault codes are...

P0568 Cruise Control Set Signal Malfunction
P1483 Power To Fan Circuit Overcurrent
P0325 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)
P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction

I instantly thought it would be the camsensor as we all know how problematic they are on the 2.0 omegas!  However, after reading the manual it says that if the engine MIL is lit it actually means there is an emissions fault???

Can anyone clarify or have any ideas why it won't start.  Timing belt is still intact (although have not checked timing), cleaned camshaft and crank sensors which hasn't helped.  Plugs look ok and engine still spins just won't fire.

Exhaust isn't in a great state - so wondering if this could be the problem rather than the stored fault codes???

Thanks in advance...  8-) :o

Hi, just replaced my vapouriser diaphragms and was trying to tune the system yesterday.  Got the software to calibrate correctly but when driving it misses terribly.

Took the car to work last night and then EML appeared.  Fault code is 0201 (injector valve 1) and EML will only come on when switched to gas, the EML will go off immediately after switching back to petrol.

I'm thinking probably spark plug or lead needing changed?  Anyone in the know experienced this before or have an idea what the problem is?

Engine is 2.0l 16v (X20XEV) and has a single point system with OMVL R90/E vap and an AEB 175 Leonardo feedback system.

Omega General Help / Knock Sensor Location - 1999 2.0 16v (X20XEV)
« on: 10 October 2008, 14:45:52 »
Hi, can someone tell me where I can locate the knock sensor?

Been flagging a code (0325).  EML comes on every time I hit 2000rpm then disappears when I get to about 3500rpm.  After about 15 mins of driving the EML disappears altogether until started from cold again.

Any clues?  If not location of the sensor would be great.

Oil is up to the max line so no problem there.

Omega General Help / Re: how much is too much

Use the dipstick!  Fill in a few litres then check the dipstick.  Then add a small amount at a time while checking the dipstick until it reaches the correct amount.  :y

Omega General Help / Fault code 1690 - really worried!!!
« on: 19 April 2008, 09:34:52 »
Hi, driving to work this morning the EML came on and the car started to struggle.  If I get the revs above 4000rpm the light disappears and the car returns to normal but the minute they get back under 3000rpm the light comes back.  There is no untoward noises coming from the engine and when the light is off the car runs fine.

Read the codes and I've got a knock sensor fault code from a week or so ago (was running low on lpg) and a new code 1690 - which according to top buzz is MIL malfunction/Engine Fail.   :'(

I'm really worried for the fact the engine light is working fine and has been for as long as I can remember.  Anyone had this code before and what was the cause apart from the MIL.  I would imagine some worrying noises would be heard from the engine if it was failing, surely?

Thanks in advance...

Omega General Help / Aircon caused strange problem X20XEV
« on: 17 April 2008, 13:38:46 »
Just turned on my aircon for the first time in ages and the fans immediately turned themselves off.  Battery light came on and the power has disappeared from speedo clocks.  Turned the engine off then back on and now have no lights or power on the speedo clocks.  :'(  I thought the drive belt had probably snapped but it hasn't and turning everything as it should.  Any ideas?  I'm about to go and check for a blown fuse but has anyone experienced this before and knows the cause and a solution?

Thanks in advance...

Omega General Help / Spark plugs X20XEV LPG converted
« on: 13 March 2008, 10:40:21 »
Hi all, can anyone recommend what spark plugs I should use in my car?  I have a 2 litre ecotech (X20XEV) which is LPG converted with an AEB 175 Leonardo feedback system (single point).  Will I need to alter the gaps as well?

Thanks in advance...

Omega General Help / Oil level sensor plug/wires
« on: 23 February 2008, 10:54:27 »
Hi folks, could anyone shine some light on where the wires and plug for the oil level sensor come from?  A picture would be even better.  :-[ I think I may have sheared  the wires when putting a donor engine in.  Its not a big problem as the car works fine without it but if a oil leak ever develops I'd like to know if I'm going to run out.

Cheers.

Omega General Help / Blowers
« on: 05 February 2008, 22:44:18 »
Anyone know why my blowers will only direct air to the windscreen?  It has been like this since I bought the car, although they did all briefly work for a month or so when I installed a walnut centre console and had a fiddle at the pipes behind it.  Been back behind the console and can't see anything loose or disconnected.  Should I be looking somewhere esle for the problem?

Omega General Help / Valve seat recession
« on: 03 February 2008, 10:53:28 »
Hi, I'm new to the forum and couldn't find any info on this.  My car has an lpg conversion and I've heard a lot of people on another forum I use going on about using flashlube.  Some say it's essential and others aren't as convinced.

Just wanting to know if a flashlube system is advisable for my engine.  Engine is an X20XEV taken from an N-reg Cavalier.  Does this engine suffer from VSR?

Cheers.

General Discussion Area / Parrot Joke
« on: 30 June 2008, 16:41:46 »
A couple decide against having kids but would like to have a pet to take care of instead.  They don't want any pet though, they want one that can talk back to them, so they decide on getting a parrot.

They go to the local petshop and ask the owner if he has any parrots.  The petshop owner shys away and says no you'll have to go somewhere else.  The couple say "that's fine" and start to make their way out the door.

Just as they're leaving they hear a voice from the back of the shop saying "polly want a cracker".  The couple are sure it's a parrot and go back to the red-faced petshop owner.

"I'm sure we just heard a parrot" the couple exclaim.  The petshop owner comes clean and admits he has one parrot left.  He tells the couple he doesn't want to sell them the parrot as it swears constantly.  The couple insist, pay the man and leave with the parrot.

They get the parrot into the car and start heading home.  Everything is going well until they get cut up on the motorway.  Out of the back of the car comes a voice "did you see that f£$king c£%t, what a f£$king ars£hol£".  The couple are astounded, they've never heard such foul language and they tell the parrot if it swears again they're going to put it in the freezer.  At that, the parrot says "sorry, no problem I'll keep quiet".

They're nearly home, when they get cut up again.  Sure enough a voice from the back of the car says "look at that f£$king t£t, what a complete utter w£$ker".  The couple are shocked and tell the parrot he's going in the freezer when they get back.

They get home and stick the parrot in the freezer and leave it there for an hour.  They open up the freezer and they see the parrot shivering away in the corner.

They ask the parrot if he's going to swear again?

The parrot replies - "no I won't swear again but what the f$ck did the turkey do"?
