Omega General Help / My mates autobox...
« on: 02 November 2007, 23:23:32 »
A friend has an MV6 auto. What happens is sometimes when he takes off slow then gives it more beans it wont go accordingly - just picks up at the same rate. Sometimes when it changes gear but doesnt make it from 2-3 just changes from 2-2 (if you know what I mean?) But last night he rang me and said while he was driving in D @ 30 mph it was like it was in neutral, just rev'd up  :(  He wants me to take it off and strip it down for him - knowing I know jack about them  ::)

I'm thinking a fluid and filter change is in order but I could be way off...

Any ideas?  :y

Omega General Help / Using a 3ltr box on a tractor?
« on: 11 October 2007, 10:04:14 »
Picking up a tractor up next week  :) with a handsfree gearbox :(

What flywheel and clutch would I use if using the r28 fitted to the MV6?
The MV6 ones?
Do I need the r25 bellhousing?

Any info will be appreciated  :y

Omega General Help / Breather pipes - an alternative solution?
« on: 23 September 2007, 14:54:40 »
Right, just an idea really.
Has anyone made a breather box instead of having the pipes plugged in to the plennum?

I am aiming for maximum 'clean' airflow.  :y

Does anyone know how the throttle pedal is actually linked to the engine loom, as the loom is self contained.
Also as far as I can tell the loom's do not differ from the petrol versions.....

Any ideas or comments appreciated  :y

Omega General Help / STILL using lots of fuel and missing :(
« on: 14 September 2007, 11:12:56 »
Getting a little pissed off with this now.  >:(

Things changed;
Crank sensor
Dis pack
Plugs
Leads
Rocker cover gaskets
Head gasket

All timed up perfectly (cheers Andy!)

Does and average of 19 to the gallon, idles at 400rpm... you can smell the fuel too!
Seems to disappear at 4k and is very powerful.
Been chipped and de-cated.
A garage put a "recon" engine in before I got my mitts on it - thought the miss was due to HGF.

Starts and drives OK but theres a definite miss under 4k.

Anyone have and ideas? or suggestions?

FBW wiring?

Omega General Help / MV6 0-60 in 2 days and MASSIVELY overfuelling!
« on: 03 September 2007, 20:29:05 »
I have a prob with the meega. The timing is very very precise (big thanks to Andyb for the lend of the locking kit!)
NEW, plugs, leads, dispack and crank sensor - head gasket done too.
The multi rams work too.

Idles at 400RPM
Does 13-14 to the gallon
Stinks of unburnt fuel
Definite misfire
Struggles going up hills unless in 2nd
EML goes straight out
Takes a bit to fire in the morning?

Fly's after 4-5K (well sort of).

Looking for any other ideas - I have a couple but want to hear if it strikes someone as obvious before I spend £silly amounts.

As far back as I could remember I always wanted Vauxhall to make a "sports" diesel Omega, they never did though.
I thought, right I'll get an MV6 then get a 2.5TD (cheap) and drop the engine in the MV6 and have all the MV6 spec with a stick shift, the Irmscher body and wheels etc.....

Well now I have an MV6 I want to do it (might have something to do with free diesel at work  ;))

I know I'm taking alot on but when you think about it, it's not going to be that hard. I'll get a whole 2.5TD so I can have the tank fuel lines etc and will take all the other conversion parts....
I recon maybe 1 day to swap engines (match the TD lump to my clutch and box) then 1 day scratching my head wondering what I've done - LOL

The main thing that I think will get in the way is the wiring (fly by on the TD), does anyone have any ideas that might make it slightly easier to do? Bearing in mind I'll have a whole car to take from.

Omega General Help / break! My alternator has gone FUBAR!
« on: 19 August 2007, 18:37:00 »
We went out for a good old sunday blat in the MV6.
Whilst cruising in traffic at about 40 clicks I noticed the battery light come on... then off... then on! I best pull up, as I did the PAS went along with the temp nearing 100!  :o

Anyways, we get out and my missus says "it's broke"  ::)
It looks like the bearings in the alternator have collapsed? Is there a way how I could fix this cheap?
Or chould I be off to the scrapper for a 120amp + alternator?

Omega General Help / It's all gone belly up!
« on: 17 August 2007, 11:16:37 »
Right, I bought an MV6 with HGF, fixed that put everything back together - didnt start after muchas rather about I learned the fuel pump wasnt priming.

I cpoke to the guy I bought it off who said he too had that problem but after a sparky looked at it they bought a new crank sensor and they had to reprogram the chip in key.
He went on to say that there is a 30 amp fuse in the engine bay (in the triangular bo at the smallest part which was blown and they changed after the new sensor was fitted).

I drove the car before doing the HG and it did have a missfire (I assume due to water in the bore).

still reading?  ;)

I had a play with the fuel pump relay and now it works.....? (opened and manually pushed arm across)
The thing is now, when I try to start it, it pops and farts but wants to run until I open the throttle - then it sounds like theres nothing there?

EML goes out while cranking.
Inlet stripped down and rebuilt (twice to be sure everything is plugged in)
NEW: dispack, plugs, leads, crank sensor and timing belt kit (timed up using locking kit)

I'm absolutely stumped on what to look at next.

Any ideas appreciated  :y

Omega General Help / 22MPG........in a diesel!
« on: 21 September 2006, 18:56:00 »
ok, the missus has a 2.5 td auto and its averiging 22MPG (mfd is accurate!)
i think the autobox needs fresh oil in as it has started to "slip" and power is almost non-existant!

it also has problems starting when hot-temp switch on pump maybe?

its a bit of a shitter really and is in great need of servicing etc cos i think/know it's been neglected.

so, back to mpg i know MR mac b had very impressive mpg (high 40's i think!)
anybody got any ideas on how to double mine-ie stuff that could be renewed....

any help appreciated as always! ;)

General Discussion Area / When you fit a 3ltr clutch to a 2.5TD....
« on: 14 January 2008, 18:59:09 »
I bolted mine straight on. The clutch doesnt seem to be going in quite far enough though. Was I right to assume my nearly new MV6 clutch was a bolt straight on job or, do you need to modify it? Use a TD pressure plate?

Otherwise I think my flywheel is fooked  >:(

General Discussion Area / Any good ideas for bleeding my clutch?
« on: 09 January 2008, 21:31:02 »
WELL PISSED OFF!!!  >:(  >:(  >:(

After muchas swearing and shouting I realised my prop was too long for my converted automatic tractor as it was off the MV6. So off to warrington to get a whole prop - £50 plus a few beer tokens for a mate. Get back, sweet! now I'll bleed the clutch then... That was at 3pm and me and wifey have been at it  ::) since then till now  >:(  >:(

I've got a bleed pipe with an non-return valve in, going in to a bottle which goes on the nipple. The master cylinder, slave and pipe work appear in good order. The clutch is a nearly new item also. There are no visable leaks any where.
