Omega General Help / gearbox refit
« on: 28 March 2007, 12:52:54 »
ok last job... engine is in... all connected (bar one vac pipe)... but the autobox isnt sitting right... (not to mention its an AR25  :-[ on a 3L). the box is sitting low. is it just a matter of lifting till the TC stump sits in the centre of the crank? Also whats the best way of lining up the TC bolt holes and those on the flywheel??

thanks.

Omega General Help / Engine Out
« on: 05 March 2007, 19:50:29 »
ok guys. think the v6 in my motor has to many problems to fix and it would be cheaper to swap out for another... so what needs removing to get it out? obv firstly removing the gearbox...

so far i have figured out:
  • Exhaust manifold
  • Coolant pipes (to rad)
  • Fuel Lines
  • Air Intake
  • Vac Lines

what else needs removing? any easy way of figuring out where the vac lines go back in? lol

thanks. Rob

Omega General Help / Quick Question
« on: 08 March 2007, 23:12:00 »
can the engine be removed without dropping the gearbox? IE: by removing rad, bell housing bolts, engine mounts etc... then moving it forward and up..... if not whats the easiest way?

if i can get away without dropping the box then thats the ideal scenario.

thanks.

Omega General Help / URGENT help needed
« on: 02 March 2007, 03:12:48 »
just bought a 2.5 GLS estate. drove ok for bout 100 miles, got to around 140mi and i got the "oil pressure light" on constantly. Pulled over almost instantly and refilled with oil (level wasnt even on the dipstick). then drove the remaining 30 mi home (albeit a bit noisily).

It appears that as the camcover gskt was done but they didnt clean the breathers so it was blowing out the next easiest outlet the filler neck.
Now today i tried re running it and found a very prominent clattering noise (like slapping two metal rulers together) not noticable at idle but VERY noticable at 2000k+  :'( been told it could be the crank shaft shells,  i really hope it isnt or it will be a new engine for it. could it be anything else? slack timing belt, oil pump, water pump?

also cant see for definate if the leak has stopped or if its coming from anywhere else  :( have a soundclip on my phone but dont know how i can host it.

help uregntly required need to get it running properly asap as i "think" the bmw's sold.

thanks

Omega General Help / megga oil leak
« on: 27 February 2007, 20:56:26 »
found an omega thats ideal for what i need, but the seller says "it has a nasty oil leak, was told it was coming from the right hand rocker gasket, but having replaced that it obviously wasn`t, nothing much to say really, not sure if it may be coming from the left hand rocker gasket, as it smokes under the bonnet when warm, suggesting it is leaking onto the manifold"

any ideas what it could be?

thanks guys.

Omega General Help / possible replacement for BMW
« on: 26 February 2007, 00:10:44 »
found a 2.5 man meggie estate on ebay, in warwickshire. the descriptions bad points are as follows.

Oil leak from under the engine.  Not sure where its coming from  but the top of the engine is clean so it may be coming from the sump gasket??  Uses its oil up after about 1000-1500 miles so keep it topped up.

Overeheating in heavy traffic, not sure why, I've had a new water pump fitted but it didnt help much, is fine when driving but gets hot quickly, must keep the engine revved to keep the temp. down.

Power steering has failed, not sure why, car still drives fine but is bit heavy in car parks etc.

Uses coolant, needs topping up once a month or so, not sure where its leaking though, may be another symptom of the overheating.

Bodywork is rusty round some of the door edges and has loads of stonechips in the bonnet.  Rear tailgate has a couple of small dents and one rear light lens is craked.

Clutch is slipping sometimes so probably needs replacing.

Radio is not connected to an aerial but still works.  One back door light not working.

what do you guys think. worth getting?  :-/

Omega General Help / V.Bad Starting
« on: 26 January 2007, 01:29:54 »
hey all. just recently (probly due to the cold) its been very difficult to start my megga. takes loads of turning over, then repeating over and over (usually with a couple of loud pops (like a backfire but coming from the front.) but once its started i can stop it and it will restart no problems even after running it for a min then all day no prob (until its stood over night again)....

any ideas?

Omega General Help / Kerb Lights
« on: 22 January 2007, 13:59:22 »
ok, new problem.... the front door kerb lights are inoperative  ;D the rear ones are working fine. there is no voltage to the holders too... are the front ones on a seperate fuse to the rear? originally tried new bulbs though.

strangest thing is that the interior light still comes on so can only assume that its not the door switch.

any ideas?

Omega General Help / Alloy wheels
« on: 21 January 2007, 22:34:01 »
cant attach the centrecap to my F/N/S wheel, even with brand new fitting kit (tool was missing when i bought the car) it seems the threads are missing from inside the wheel.

any ideas how i can re-attach it? thought about using a tap set, but am worried it will make it too big to take the bolt.

thanks
Rob :y

p.s: how can i get rid of the damn annoying "Brake Pad" MID warning, the only side i have done anything with was the F/O/S wheel which does not have a wear sensor attached (was disconnected at the coupling to the back of the arch lining.)

(PS: it already has an M-Tek chip fitted....)

Omega General Help / elite satnav
« on: 16 January 2007, 03:06:52 »
as posted by my father on "the other site" :

Apologies if this is in the wrong section (first post). I have just purchased 1998 Omega Elite Estate which is equipped with sat nav. However it appears dead. I know it suffered from a flat battery (had to re-enter the radio/CD codes). Could that have any bearing? There is no display on the screen, no reaction from the twirly control thingummy and nothing from the eject button on the computer (after I finally found it). It may not even have a data CD in.

All fuses seem ok (thought they would be as they run lots of other stuff that is working) and there is a CD in the unit. Anyone know where the connectors are hidden so I can stick a voltmeter on them?

anyone have any ideas.

cheers, rob

Omega General Help / Remote locking
« on: 01 December 2006, 00:46:56 »
is it possible to add an RF key and barrel (with transponder etc...) to an M reg CDX with the infra-red type? just gets on my nerves having to mess about dis-arming the immobiliser, when i could just put the key in (tbh i fancy one of those new flip keys used on audi's etc....) :y

if so, what do i need and how do i do it?
or should i just get an alarm that i can do it with (clifford/Toad etc...)

regards.
Rob
